@@blockingdead6442 it feels to me like the only game where you’re actually vulnerable. You’re alone walking through an occupied city at night and you’re just an ODST, a well trained marine sure, but no genetically modified super soldier with state of the art armour and shields.

@@hexoslaya3696 Correct. While other Halo games definitely have songs that make it sound like everything's going down or there's no hope, it feels like the subject is almost always the "events", if that makes sense. Like, humanity as a whole, or the faith of a planet, soldiers (covenant & human alike).
Halo ODST's scores feel more personal. Like that's the situation YOU'RE in, or what your character feels like.
ODST's also the reason why I crave a game where we play a simple marine from a squad set in the Halo universe. Hopefully during the covenant war.

If I may make a suggestion/request: Please do an analysis of "Devils...Monsters..." from Halo CE. That track captures what you, the player, are feeling throughout the level 343 Guilty Spark so perfectly it's insane.
Couple that with the complete LACK of music for the first half of the level (just ambient background noise and a short piece at the start of a cutscene), it really pairs perfectly with the surprise twist the game throws at you: The Flood.

Totally. Halo CE was high strings focused with other synth type sounds and percussion. Halo 2 was HEAVILY electric guitar focused and takes a so much more driven musical turn of style. Halo 3 returns to a mellower type that brings closure to a saga with heavy piano focus and sends it to heaven. ODST mixed it up with sax and jazz

Hearing any of its songs instantly brings me back to the streets of New Mombasa, from the rock of Traffic Jam to the melancholic jazz of Deference for Darkness and finally to the more typically Halo sounding orchestral epic that is Finale. It should be noted, the first time this plays, you're leading a counterattack of Marines with a Scorpion Tank.
You're pushing through the streets against a vile foe with the power to force them back.
And the last time it plays, partially at least, is the beginning of the last hold out of the game. Not a tragic hold out like Reach, survival til the end; you've got a pick-up coming and a priority objective you need to protect, and the music is urging you to prepare, because the enemy is coming hard, and you _need_ to hold. You _will_ hold.

If it feels likes like it’s from the 70’s or 80’s, funny fact, most ODST’s (Orbital Drop Shock Troopers) in the books, and Fanfics reference Rock/Flip music from that time period 🫡 And funnier thing thing is, in Combat Evolved/The Flood, one Marine, Sergeant Johnson puts on “Flip/Rock” music on the drop-ships sound system, another marine calls it trash, and Johnson says “This ‘Trash’ is your history, boy!” Marine: “Well if the Covenant want to wipe out this part of my history, that’s fine with me!”

ODST has essentially only bangers in the OST. Marty O'Donnell and co got to just go to town doing some funky shit and it works so well for "space marines trying to kick some ass/sleuth things out/ survive".
I recommend listening to some interviews with Marty about his creative process. He loved callback soundtracks that cannibalized old songs a bit, and leveraged them in various emotional ways during missions. You can hear a few distorted stings from other tracks that are meant to make you subconsciously think "this is like X mission/place but all fucked up". Its an interesting philosophy that i think pays off really well.
You nailed this somg pretty well by the way. You are soldiers joining a small convoy on their way to retake/demolish an Office of Naval Intelligence building. It starts off with an immediate threat, and the action quickly begins to ramp alongside the music as more enemy vehicles reinforcements arrive.
The best way to describe the action for most of this level is
    "Tempo, tempo, tempo".

One of my halo music knowledge I know for a fact is that. Halo 2’s main theme is a lot of electric guitar which really fits the rising action aspect of that point in the story and halo 3 I believe has a lot of piano in its main theme which is interesting because the beginning is somber and the end is somber which fits the piano part of the music really well. Always loved that detail. Halo 2’s music is just so action packed and that electric guitar fits so well to that.

an interpretation I like, is that the calmer; more orchestral themes/motifs in the Halo soundtrack are the forerunners speaking to the player through music, hence why the halo theme is chanting and orchestral rather than rock & drums. and with this song in particular, you can imagine a forerunner structure at the start; being discovered and taken over and militarized by humans during the war, as the drums and guitar kick in.

As odd as this is, Halo 3: ODST is a noir detective story about a regular human (unlike Master Chief) special forces soldier, alone at night in an alien occupied city on Earth, trying to find where his squad is. This particular track plays in the game's final mission as you drive a Warthog and, eventually, Tank with your squad leader on its turret as you escort a character named Dare, who is in what is essentially an armored trash truck.
It is a very hectic and incredibly climatic segment leading to a final stand while waiting for evacuation.

A big part of the atmosphere of Halo 3 ODST (Not the same as Halo 3, not a DLC or anything, it's a fully separate game, by the way.) is wildly shifted from the rest of the Halo games because you're not a Spartan super soldier, you're an ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) which is basically like black ops special forces, they're the best of the best, but they're still pure human, not modified like the Spartans. They don't have super strength, shields, armor that weighs half a ton or anything like that. They use equipment that could theoretically be made in our modern world today. It's like a comparison between Superman (Spartans) and Batman (ODST). They're just humans with the tools, skills and experience to go on suicide missions and possibly make a difference or die trying, not a one man army sent in to almost singlehandedly win a war.
A lot of Halo 3 ODST is a lot slower and quieter not just in the soundtrack but in the gameplay, because you're mortal and frail and weak, and you're reminded of that at every step of your journey. You're only human, and you really feel like it. There's no power trip, no saving the galaxy, just a lone man, lost and separated from his squad in the big city, in the middle of a stormy night after a drop gone wrong scattered everyone across the city. Just you, your gun, the shadows, the sound of the rain and the threat that each back alley or street corner you turn could be your last. And the soundtrack pairs so perfectly with that feeling.

If I haven't already requested it, @MarcoMeatball absolutely do a reaction video piece to "117" by Kazuma Jinnouchi from HALO 4, one of the best, if not THE best theme from the HALO game series, particularly after it is about, Masterchief entirely, could argue the unbeatable themes from HALO and HALO 2 were the best, but 117 just hits the spot in terms of the greatest of humanity against the greatest of foes. It's incredible, also, do play through the game series, it's something that I treasured from childhood, and even play the entire game series every couple of years, just to feel the enormity of it.

Ohhh, ODST. The night missions, that jazzy, easy flow. Gods, the music in this one as fine, smoky drink and long night filled with rain and distant lights. Game was fun, the music hit good.

For context, this is one of the first mission soundtracks but you can hear it through other levels, and the session involves battle through urban areas as you face waves of resistance on your way to the objective. It makes you feel like an epic action hero and yet you hardly notice the track as you fight through the streets.
