People might cringe at this video, but I love it. It's such a time capsule; seeing all the adverts and signs for Xbox, Playstation 2, and Gamecube, all the games, accessories, and consoles being plentiful, sealed, and brand new (which would fetch for a handsome resell price today and would be a must have for collectors), seeing the demo kiosks (that were more open ended compared to cycling demo discs over many months everywhere else)...that era in gaming was one where the big 3 littered their brand everywhere they could for everyone to see trying to pull people into the craze and where gaming started to become a norm.
+Thison Its a tough choice. You got Reagan and some cold war communist-bloc fuckfest in the 80s. But, the early 2000s had 9/11 and some cringe-worthy wars in the middle-east.
Ryan made a crucial mistake when selling a system to this mom. The correct answer is "Lady, you are going to screw this up, there's no way your going to get your kid what he actually wants, just give him a couple hundred dollars and let him get what he really wants"
I used to live about a 30 minute walk from GameCrazy growing up in Springfield Massachusetts. One of my favorite memories ever was when I was 14 (2004), the day Paper Mario Thousand Year Door came out. I called them to see if they had it in stock and they did. So I walked there and back. Bought it with the $50 I had saved from my birthday and lunch month and played the game when I get home for around 8 hours straight. One of the best days of my life.

As a kid, I went into a GameCrazy one time because my brother gave me a gift card with an unknown balance for Christmas. It was messy and disorganized and was connected to a store called Hollywood Video, an equally trashy location. So I went ahead and bought a used copy of Bully for the PS2. Except for the lack of manual and banged up case, the game disc looked and ran brand new. Had a lot of fun playing it by myself and with friends. I think since I experienced GameCrazy so late in 2008 (around when the parent company filed for bankruptcy) I never really saw what it had to offer. While not being in the best of shape, just like that game I bought there (holy shit) 10 years ago, GameCrazy seemed to have a solid business model and good service to the consumer, however the fact that it ran as a small section of Hollywood Video stores and not as its own location made it doomed with the oncoming advent of digital movie rentals and streaming through services like Netflix to kill off most of the country’s big and small video stores.
