New Idea Uni System Corn Picker Picking Corn 2023

- She rises! It looked like the Uni would be silent this year after the corn on the farm had to all be chopped this year. That is until a neighbor stopped by with 3 acres of corn he needed to have picked. Alan jumped at the chance to run the Uni Harvester again and to bring some cob corn home for the heifers on the farm. Alan got the Uni going and headed over, but the wet fall meant the field was too muddy to pick. After a week of good drying weather, he tried again. He was mostly successful the first day, and by the 2nd day, we were all done. The New Idea Uni made quick work of the fields, and we ended up with almost 3 gravity boxes full. Lastly, we do a product review of night vision binoculars. Are they useful on a farm? Watch to find out.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.
Hope you get the wolf problem resolved. 👍👏🐄
I enjoy seeing that picker going. Me and my grandpa are thinking about picking ear corn next year, we haven't for a few years. We have a John deere 300 with a 3 row head. We also have a new idea one row, but my grandpa said with the corn stalks being so tough nowadays, you cant go 50ft without plugging it. But the john deere does a great job. Keep up the great work!
Nice to see some picker action
Not much, but it was nice to get it going again.
New Idea made the best pickers ever. Probably the only thing that the UniSystem was really suited for. It was "at home" picking corn, but struggled to chop or combine. Great video!
This is incredible. My 73 year old dad called it a uni right away
The cat just wanted to be the star of the show.😂
Hello trinity dairy,,, finished the picking got 3 cribs full from 35+ acres,, that was last field work for season, now it’s maintenance time, and slowing down,, thanks for video “ have a great day “😊😊
The binoculars come with an Alan wrench, what a coincidence Alan 😂 great video. I like watching corn picking being done. Makes great feed take care 🇨🇦👍🚜😁
Even my kids call it a daddy wrench
I didn’t realize that thing had a hopper, very cool 👍🏻
It's not designed for that, but it will hold a little.
Them old uni's were a great machine, especially picking.
That night vision is a neat system, especially the recording. Looks like it would be a great product.
Hope you and your family had a great thanksgiving 🦃🦃🦃
Take care and stay warm !!!
We have a cat that looks like your cat on your video. Our cat’s name is Brovo because when he was little with his 3 male litter mates he was always the aggressor ! May the Lord be with you, your family & farm animals.
Hey Allen,,,good to see the Uni up and about. Pretty rare to see a husking bed that size. Even back in the day when cob corn was the deal.
I like that picker , it's really cool .
Around here I've only ever seen one or two row , pull type corn pickers.
If those wolves started preying on domestic dogs and cats in the city the rules about them being protected would change in a hurry.
Those Uni's were popular back in the day.
I JUST SUBBED LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR'S
Harvest is the most beautiful time of year. Thank you for sharing these videos. It brings back a lot of memories. Please stay safe, and God bless.
Its a big ole lawn mower! 🌽🌽🐄🐂😉
Great video hope you had a great thanksgiving.
Awesome video as always
It is good I think to keep the UNI running a little bit to keep the history alive. A couple of acres is all it takes. Hopefully your Thanksgiving was good.
Hi,Ed from Vermo0nt
I was just thinking it would be kind of neat to see your Uni at a show like Rollag or Rantoul if it were doable. It seems like you just don't see Unis around that run hardly ever.
❤ 🌽
579.00$ is not that expensive if it saves you a few thousand in lost live stock.
Cool old picker, I like it. It’s a pretty nice looking machine and sounds like it runs pretty good. This area around me ( just north and south of Tulsa, Oklahoma used to be pretty big dairy country, but they are all gone now. There is still a few silos still standing but most of them have been taken down. Most small family farms are being leased out to a couple large operators. I’m 54 and I’m probably considered the youngest that grain farmed here, most of them are either passed on or in their 80’s now. It’s sad but things change. Great video! Blessings!!
Love watching the old Uni. When i was a kid, Dad and Uncle farmed together and had 2 Uni Harvesters. One dedicated to the chopper, one bounced between sheller and picker. Both of their's were gas as well.
Great to see corn going in the wagon. We're all going to need it this season.
Nice UNI, Jacob @ Boehm farm will be jealous.
Jacob would be beside himself with that setup, you couldn't get him out of it.
Thanks for sharing this with us Alan and seeing the uni system in action was really awesome to watch! God bless! The binoculars seems to be a really nice and helpful to especially as you mentioned with checking on the cows or the scanning before you go walking to your deer stand/blind so you won't be surprised and jump some up before you even start the hunt
I enjoyed watching the Uni work. There used to be a few around here, before self propelled forage harvesters became as common as they are today.
Great to see a 704 Uni running again. As a young mechanic (working for a New Idea dealership in central PA) in the early 70’s I attended many New Idea Uni System service training schools. NI had a mobile trailer set up with an engine, transmission, final drives and hydraulic systems.
Spent many days working on them and watched them change through the model years.
Thanks for sharing.
That's a nice cat🐈
I enjoy watching the new idea picking corn, they are a great machine. That night vision is very handy for controlling the coyotes. God bless and be safe
Thanks for the video. Those binoculars look pretty sweet.
Very nice corn picker 😊😊
They were a good machine if you didnt get in a hurry
I worked on a lot of them
Alan and the cat is like Alan milking cows: Milk, feed, clean, repeat.
We had a one row uni pull behind. That was the only one we ever used. We would buy parts one to keep that one going. Best picker ever. Those binoculars looked sweet. But how can you not to spend 500 bucks? Only take you to save 1 calf or a cow.. pig. Sheep. What ever. It would pay for it self.. thank you for sharing.
The 704 Uni was equipped with a 401 cubic inch V6 gas engine.
Those GMC V 6's were 400 Cubic in engines. Had one of those New Idea uni-systems with that engine in. Before I farmed I drove a milk truck with that engine in and they were considered to be a long life, fuel efficient, and low RPM engine with plenty of power. Loved the sound of them running!
I USED TO GROW SWEETCORN FOR SENECA. THEY USED UNI HARVESTERS TO PICK WITH. A LOT OF 703 MODELS
Glad to see the Uni in action again. Kitty Cat just wanted to be in the video. Awful spoiled for a barn cat 😹
Awesome! The piece of equipment that brought me to your channel!
As near as I can tell the GM engine in your machine is a 478 v6 other models had Fords or Minneapolis Moline engines depending on the year or model
Wolf cost me a thousand bucks it would not have a chance a second time…
Impressive video quality with the binoculars.
Never saw a Uni before, must not have made many of them. Kind of farming I grew up doing. We had a one row picker or by hand if it was wet
The bino is good kit for farm check🤩
Very nice job and God bless y'all
love the gasser sound
Id love to have one
👍👍👍👍👍
👍👌❤️🇨🇦
Great video like the picking corn.👍
Enjoyed the video and corn picker and tried to buy the night vision but it would not take the discount code said it was incorrect so did not buy
Thanks for letting us know! I contacted the company, and they said they fixed the issue.
just let a wolfe get at mt cows see what happens love you,re videos what is age of uni that is a great machine
The power unit is a 76 I think, the husking bed is mid 80s.
Were did your wife get that sweat shirt don't say the dairy expo lol
No, not world dairy expo, Jen commented on Genex's Facebook page about how much she likes the RumiLife boluses, and they surprised her with it as a thank you.
Nice product be handy
Is that picker a wide row or narrow row
Narrow row
What’s the row spacing?
30in
Great video, that uni picker is kinda rare machine on you tube...
A great video thanks and I see not many are saying anything about what you were advertising!! I watch your farm and the workings of it and enjoy it.
I really think hunters would love being able to check out the Deer of Moose to see where they are as well and you the farmer checking on your animals at night time.
Hello enjoyed your video. To me the night vision to expensive just adding my 2 cents worth. Have a great day.
O man when Alan would set the cat down and it would just jump up by Jen again that was hilarious 😂
Never thought about night vision but the way you guys presented it I'm probably going to buy one think it would help a lot around the farm thank you
Another great video. Thank you.
Wolves are not necessarily untouchable, Montana has a yearly season I think most western states do
That's a neat picker. Glad you were able to use it and get some of the corn too.
One use you might have for the binoculars might be looking at the moon and stars. It would be interesting I think. My husband had a telescope that he used and was able to take photos with.
Thanks for the video. Have been wondering how you guys were doing. Love the cat, too. Our house cat is blind and has her paths she uses to get around in the house as long as you don't distract her or throw her off the trail. Take care everyone.
That shot of the rolls was good, I always wondered what happens in the inside.
That should be a gmc 366 cid v 6
They made those v6s in four different sizes. I had a 379 in a '73 truck, loved that truck, I wasn't fast but it would go anywhere empty or full.
We finished our corn here on the home farm, today, November 29. Pick some and combined some. We are planning to take some off for a neighbor tomorrow and we will be done for 23. We are in Western Pennsylvania everybody in our area is about 2 weeks behind we've been waiting for corn to dry down.
Alan, just wanted to express my gratitude for your videos! Yesterday I had a problem getting your site to stay on probably due my technology which is almost nil! I remember last year the Uni System didn't seem to husk very well, but this year it seemed to me that Husking was not a problem ? Again, I really appreciate the videos!!!!!! oh, and I was working on the 570 Cockshutt I did get it going needs a lot of work. But that's our love to hear them old tractors going. Skip, Western PA
The weather has a lot to do with how well it husks.
Great video as always
Nice video Alan!
Nice to see that machine working. Is corn for picking in the planting plans for 2024?
Yes
Great machine but uses some gasoline i quess and nowerdays that ain't cheap anymore, thanks and greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
Yeah it's thirsty!
Good video Allen & Jen.
🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅
Are there varieties of corn that are better for picking ?
I don't know if any are for picking these days, they go for easier shelling, which is better for combining.
