This thing is technically taller than the top deck of the Effie Tower yet people complain about it. Growing up I’d never imagine Kings Island getting anything remotely close to that height even Dback really isn’t

The reason people complain isn't because Orion's a bad ride or something. It's inherently exciting. People complain because as another non-inverting B&M, it had to be more than what it is to fit into a park that already had Diamondback. The only improvement over Diamonback is that the first drop is taller, but it's still not tall enough to be worth building. The difference is less than 100'. Compare this to Fury 325's relationship with Thunder Striker at Carowinds. The former is over 100' taller. Of course, Orion could have made up for this by being lengthier, but it isn't . Post-drop, it's actually shorter than Diamondback. Back to the Carowinds comparison, post-drop, Fury 325 is around 15% longer than Thunder Striker.
The point? Orion needed to be more to justify the money and the space.

@@michaelpryor78 So Orion isn’t that much taller than Diamondback but yet it’s drop is 85 feet taller but Fury 325s drop is only 20 feet taller than Orion’s but that’s a big difference that’s enthusiasts logic makes no sense. Orion gets so much hate for no reason it’s a joke who complains about a 300 foot 91 mile an hour coaster? That’s like complaining about a Tesla😂

@@JJJJ-he8bz Fury 325's drop is 115' taller than Thunder Striker's though, and it's also longer than that ride too. In all honesty, I don't love that ride's placement at Carowinds either, but Orion had to separate itself from Diamondback more on that level if it's going to be another B&M. The rides are too similar. I personally would've put in an Intamin like 305 instead.

@@michaelpryor78 Intimidator 305 isn’t even top 3 of rides at its on park ridership wise it literally has no line. More people want to ride Dominator than I305 it was literally a complete waste of money. Meanwhile Orion gets the longest lines at Kings Island after 4 years still

      1. If someone likes big roller coasters, it's in the top 3, and that's not really up for debate. If you like Twisted Timbers and Dominator more, that's fine, but anyone says that 305 is surpassed by Flight of Fear, Grizzly, Anaconda, Racer, or Tumbili is out to lunch.
      2. 305 is in the wrong park too and would do much better at Kings Island, Cedar Point, etc. Unlike Orion though, it's not because it doesn't fit in with the other rides. It's because it doesn't fit in with the guest demographic. Kings Dominion is more of a family park, and it's not really a destination either. The issue is that the thrill seekers who'd want to ride it more frequently, including me, go to BGW instead. BGW is an objectively better park with better rides in general. Without traffic, they're less than an hour and a half away from each other.
      3. I'm not saying that KI needs 305 exactly, but Orion is way too similar to Diamondback. Again, NOT A BAD RIDE. It's just a ride that could be better and is in the wrong place. If they didn't want some Intamin thing, a big B&M dive coaster would've fit in well.
