    This was straight up AWESOME! I want to explore some local mines but am kinda scared; Thanks for going in there so I can get a bit of an idea of what it is like to be in an actual mine.
    I hope you guys will be doing more of this, maybe even get a claim of your own one day...

      Thank you! I think you really need to look at it case by case. Not all mines are created equal.

    Oh yea kids.. Killer finds in the tailings. Nice. That mines been there a long time. Those soda straw stalactites are slow growing. Not a Karst area for solution formations, I would guess too? Great vid.

    The water is a constant issue for mining in Missouri. That’s why the Bonne Terre lead mine shut down. Still plenty of ore but it became too expensive to pump the water out. Learning about geology I’ve learned I basically live on a giant sopping wet sponge!

    I got excited when I saw "Zinc" in the title. Here in the Southwest, smithsonite is often found in zinc mines. Some maintain that the finest smithsonite in the world comes from the Kelly Mine in central New Mexico.... a zinc mine.

    There's a small amount of gold in that area also. The first speck of gold I ever found panning was in Beauty creek. I found some cool looking quartz up there, which I lost in the move back to Washington ugh. Lol. Great video. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

    Fun to watch. As I looked at the walls and the minerals slowly seeping and accumulating, it reminded me of being inside a geode. Sort of like you are watching one form.

    Thanks for sharing another great post sir, much appreciated! "It's July!" 😂🤣 That was brilliant, thanks to Sara for keeping your dates strait. We all know the truth that Sara's the muscle carrying all the equipment while you take videos~ hahaha Very interesting little mine to hunt. I'm ok anxiety wise exploring hard rock mines typically but am always wary of mines dug through ancient river beds with all that cobbled rock that just crumbles on impacts. Anyway, that was a cool exploration my friend, thanks to the team for bringing us all this cool content. Take care and talk again soon~

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  3 роки тому +1

      Sara does carry a lot! I think the important part when doing mine exploration is that you need to be a good judge of the mine on an individual level, some will be safer than others.

    I used to explore the Beauty Creek mines as a young man. I didn't know anything about minerals then but it was fun. Two things to be aware of: some of these mines have very deep shafts filled with water. And one day my Zoology professor at NIC overheard us talking about it and he said that if he caught anyone in his mines he would shoot them. I have no idea which mines were his. Also, one day in March we went in one of these mines and the ceiling was bristling with daddy-long-leg spiders. I think we warmed them up a little because they started dropping on us. There are a lot of mines there.

    That's so cool. I'm surprised you didn't find more fluorescent stuff! Lead & zinc mines can be hotspots for fluorescent minerals. I've got some nice pieces of similar Pb-Zn ore from Pennsylvania with gorgeous fluorescent sphalerite. I wonder if those white looking crusts in the adit were lead or zinc oxidation products like hydrozincite or cerussite.
