Plenty of hero's taking hundreds of people to shelters (Any building that could be defended, one was a WalGreens) that couldn't get out because of the traffic jams, bring them back to a location where they could shelter while firefighters protected the building from flames. They did get planes in there but it was red light green light as the conditions changed by the minute. They had a number of priority air drops to cool off safety shelters and to keep roads open as fire was overtaking them. Hundreds of cars were left on the road when people had to leave them to retreat causing police and fire to push them off the road with their vehicle to gain access as in many areas as they used both lanes as escape. I heard many rescues of people that drove through fire on ATV, or were caught up in the fire with burn injuries. This could be a very deadly fire as rescues were ongoing but access was the main issue and only so many helicopters to go around. Rescues are still ongoing at this hour. I did here some good news in that it was starting to hit some burn zones so the fire load there was a lot lower and was slowing they fire down.
One of my best friends lived in paradise flying his R-44. He passed away last spring in a boat accident in Oroville. I have no doubt if drew Gerken was alive he would have dedicated his Raven and sling to help. I wonder if his old house survived. My prayers are for everyone in the feather river area and all those affected by the fire. When are we going to hold people accountable for the levels of barium aluminum and strontium in the northern California air, that has been a fuel to these fires?
That is to close. Looks like maybe the fire is moving West and I believe you're to the east. Keep safe my friend. Thank you for the video. I thought of you right away when the Seattle news station reported this. Yes this one is bad.
There's a lot of smoke in my area from this fire, when I heard where it was I knew you would have the update on it and immediately checked your channel. Thanks for being the best reporter out there.
Thanks for the update man, I live up in Chico and we decided to bug out early as a precaution. You are one of the only people I trust to wrap up the information to help me figure it all out. I've been following along closely but the overview really helps
Much obliged Juan. As a Chico native, this is scaring me to bits. I literally flew out 5 days ago, I was JUST there. I can’t grasp this... We have friends and family who are more likely than not, without a home. This would be the second time in the past 12 mos we’ve been affected by wildfire as a family. I cannot thank those who have opened their homes, wallets and hearts enough. Paradise & Magalia for us was always a place to calm down and cool down growing up. The idea that it is essentially no longer in existence is quite simply, unbelievable. I have no words...
Juan, thanks for this. A small irony is I moved from Paradise to Missouri this past Spring. I have many friends in the area as I lived there for twenty+ years. My Facebook is exploding with videos, stories, comments. After being forwarned and dodging some very close calls in the past ten years, inevitability finally caught up to them. My heart goes out to all affected.
So good to see this coverage by you. My son is evacuated from Chico. Smoke is very bad. Saw pictures of the Skyway through Paradise and many buildings and business are burned to the ground. I heard the Feather River Hospital which is located on the rim of the Feather River Canyon has also been burned. That is where my son was born. Just so sad that this beautiful community has lost so many homes and businesses.
Thanks Juan for the update. Being that I live in the Sierra Nevada's Amador County, most of the folks know it's only a matter of time before we will be affected by fire at some point. Probably not the Camp Fire, but there will be one with our names on it at some point. My heart goes out to the people affected by the fire. Thanks again for the update.
Having lost my home to a wildfire 7 years ago, everyone of these events just breaks my heart. You cannot imagine the feeling of total loss going back to a small pile of ashes that was once your home. Pray for these folks - they will need them.
As a former resident of Paradise with lots of family in Paradise and Magalia I was scouring the internet, UA-cam, social media and news channels with no success to find a map of the fire . Thank you for an actual map of the size of the fire and where it's headed. Thank you for providing this valuable information
I really appreciate your input. I was too shell shocked, myself, to even try and set up a station, even as a HRO (WA6FRN). All I could do was pray, and glean information fron the media. I have lived through several major disasters, but the most frightening for me was the San Fernando Quake (Feb 9, 1971). Our house survived, but we had a lot of damage. My dad [RIP] was on the radio nonstop, working realy (HAM, not CB). He had a phone patch, too, but the phone lines were very busy, so he worked channel 9 react as well, for several days during the aftermath... All I can say is, with our newer technology and whatnot, you are doing great job. My dad (WA6DHO) had a heart the size of Texas, and so do you. Keep up the good work, good buddy. I subbed your channel.
Juan, I live in Thousand Oaks and this morning the winds picked up and a fire started this afternoon in the Santa Rosa valley and raced towards the 101 freeway and it was shut down in both directions. I was lucky to observe the DC-10 air tanker in action what an amazing skill and bravery by those pilots,
@Steve Wilcox Malibu and a lot of the surrounding area is under extreme threat & mandatory evacuations due to a fire (or two) that are being whipped by 40-50 MPH Santa Ana winds. Homes have been lost but so far no serious injuries thankfully. Totally uncontained and they didn't even have a good estimate of acreage last I checked. I gotta say, it feels like it's 95 degrees outside here in So Cal, due to the sun and hot winds from the desert. Extremely low humidity (essentially zero) and 40-50 MPH winds, (at the coast, up to 70 MPH in the So Cal mountains!) equals a recipe for extremely bad results.
Thanks for the update, Juan. My girlfriend has two homes in Magalia and had worked at Feather River Hospital for over 10 years. We don't know yet the status of her homes but all relatives are safe, so far. She was just up there on Tuesday 11/6. That's too close for comfort. They will rebuild. Mountain folk are tough as nails.
Thanks Juan, Earlier this evening I was trying to see how close this situation is to you. Not knowing exactly where you live I had to just guestimate based on where Nevada County A/P is and the dam work you've been covering over the past year. Glad you posted so we know you and yours are safe for now. Will keep you in our prayers that nothing more springs up. 50 mph winds can carry sparks a very long way. Perhaps this fast moving fire creates a fire break for you in future incidents.
Seen a lot of this on news today - awful situation - all the fires. Its terrible to see all the lost homes - particularly down in Ventura County. Thanks for your usual great reporting Juan.
I saw the massive plume on the DWR webcam yesterday and thought of BlancoHQ. Thanks for the disturbing but factual and timely report, Juan. The very best of luck to all folks nearby.
Thank you for posting this, I'm watching nervously from the east coast worried for everyone there. I'm really hoping the winds don't shift south, that would be devastating for the whole Lake Oroville area.
Juan thank you for your time. It's 7pm on Friday I see several aircraft have been assigned to this fire have any been deployed as of yet and have made drops
Glad to hear you're (currently) safe! (Don't want to jinx it!) Hope you're not downwind of it, wherever you are. My home has been "a safe distance" from many fires, but directly downwind and the air quality is utterly horrible.
Juan. thanks for the update, I was just trying to figure this out, but not familiar with the territory. My concerns for all, wish I could send some of our rain! Best regards, Bob Cordova Alaska
My buddy lost his home today just south of Paradise. His cabin a bit east of Magalia in ashes too. My brother in law lived in an apartment in town. Gone. Sad stuff. Smoke made it all the way down to my house in west valley.
The Town of Paradise is gone. Don't know how reliable they are, but Daily Mail (of all places) reported on the fire and said there have been at least five fatalities, burned alive in their cars trying to evacuate. Pets and livestock were mostly left behind and lost to the fire. The places looks like something out of the End Times. It's a nightmare. I was just talking to a retired coworker who moved up there literally a week or two ago. His home is certainly gone, along with the rest of the town. I don't know how the community can ever recover.
Thank you for your excellent and thorough coverage. You are one of our preferred news sources. You mentioned that GIS didn’t have time to create maps. I noticed on the calfire website the map was lacking fire perimeter overlays on almost all the fires. Do you have any more info or background on that? Thank you again for your humanitarian and sensation-free coverage.
The top camera was fixed on the Cement plant yesterday morning. The big white fast moving clouds loomed overhead looking more like weather clouds then fire clouds. I sent an outage email to the webmaster before going to the news. Then realized those were from a fire.
I heard Malibu had a buyer to I just wanna know how come it a fire can jump so far down Paradise is in Northern California Malibu’s in Southern California how does that happen? It’s just weird that all of a sudden this is happening again.
How sad. So sorry for Paradise, I hope everyone got out. Spent much of today trying to get info on this fire. All we can do is hope and pray for favorable winds so they can get some air support. That is insanely fast moving is it not? TY so much.
Juan, thank you for your updates. As a Pilot, I think you got a great Luscome there. What airport were you flying out of? I have flown into Paradise Airport many times. My folks built a house on Andover across the street from the 7th green. My dads worst nightmare came true. The threat of fire always worried him with one way in and one way out. He passed in 1981 and mom in 2000 and the house was sold. Now it is gone. Plenty of mismanagement with the planning but the negligence of the state in NOT allowing logging to thin the forest is criminal. I flew for Calif Department of Forestry, BLM, and USFS as a lead pilot and transporting firefighters.
While I don't want to get into the politics of this, I am curious about the notion that managing the underbrush in California's forests would be beneficial? I know that out here in the wide open wilderness of Big Bend, TX. they just let the fires burn as they are part of the natural ecosystem. But we don't have the large population density that CA. has. Seems to me, that clearing underbrush and thinning the forest would reduce the devastation that we keep seeing in CA every year.
Wish you could get the Mighty Luscombe up there to survey the scene. Thanks for the update, Juan. I live in Oroville and we lost cable tv (Comcast) and cellular service (Verizon) last night around 8-9pm so information is very sparse.

I was riding back on Camp Creek and Pulga Rd Tuesday. They are replacing drain pipes under a small bridge at Cedar Creek on Camp Creek/Pulga Rd.I also noticed PG and E helicopter flying all week over the power lines between Pulga and Concow.According to the fire map,it started near Cedar Creek . Coincidence?
I'm down in Glenn County right on the Sacramento River. When I woke up this morning I was confused for a bit because it was so dark out, I though I had somehow slept all day and it was evening already. But once I looked outside and saw the red / yellow color of the "clouds" (smoke) and that I could see daylight to the north I knew what it meant. The smoke here is thick enough to block the sun, but high enough that I don't smell the smoke. The air quality down here is still good.
If the western states and Canada don't improve their forest management practices this will be the new norm. Here in Washington there used to be controlled burns and better forest logging practices in the past that helped greatly with the prevention of forest fires.
I was in the middle of this fire.We sprayed water for 6 hours, keeping the middle of the yard fire free. Then the outer bushes went up. Berry bushes 100 feet long went up for 10-15 seconds, gone no damage to anything. South side bushes gone 10 seconds. South side 200" tree crowned and was gone 10 seconds. We left after all roads to Skyway were empty with traffic. The house and property were standing 7+ hours into this fire. We had both sides of the street trees up in flames. Skyway down was impossible to see 10 feet, We made it down. The home we had is gone. God Bless us all.
Juan: it is 7pm Friday night I see several aircraft have been assigned to this fire have any of them been deployed or any aircraft fighting this fire as of right now
I'm praying for everyone up there. I've got friends who are up at the CCC fire center in Butte. Haven't heard from them. Hopefully everyone made it out.
That's so sad for all the people in the area. It's hard to imagine the speed of the fire burning 60 acres per minute... shaking head Prayers to all affected 🙏🙏🙏
Juan the "Stud" - Nice commercial for Dermisil - would rather have see a Bud Light on the table. That said, any idea as to how it started ? - I know the Name of it is because of the area. As usual, I know you will update us as more info becomes available. Thanks so much. MSM needs to hire you !!!!!!!
Thoughts & Prayers to all and get everyone out safe. Afraid we may have lost a beautiful Northern California gem in this one. Where’s the F-n rain that used to be this time of year??? November in Northern California...🌧🌧☔️☔️
blancolirio ~ I don't think it's that crazy of an idea to incorporate military type technology towards fighting forest fires . It's crazy not to . Being able to launch fire suppressant of some sorts from the ground into the fire in between air drops seems doable . In the 90's a crop duster type plane called the AT-802AF was put into service but you don't hear of them anymore . I don't know why but it would be interesting to see about 5 of those in coordinated side by side air drop . tricky but not impossible
Thanks Juan, it's amazing how fast it travels, living in Pennsylvania we never seen such devastating fires and earthquakes you guys experience. The worse we get are snow and floods, which are still bad, but nothing like you guys.
The fire is called the Camp fire after where it started not why it started. It started near the Camp Creek Road (Camp Creek) and Highway 70 (Feather River Hwy). 01:15
The town of Paradise and the Feather River Canyon area is / was such a beautiful place. The Santa Ana Winds are causing major fires in Southern Cal also..... PRAY FOR RAIN..!
Juan, do you know of the GEOMAC site? www.geomac.gov/viewer/viewer.shtml Since I couldn't find any perimeters yesterday, I was using it to watch the growth. Under the Satellite Fire Detection group is the option for MODIS and VIIRS IBAND fire detection layers.
I was almost killed in a house fire 45 years ago. Electric blanket caught on fire while I was sleeping in the middle of the night. I escaped with no injuries and lost everything. Bedroom had to be rebuilt and entire interior had to be emptied and repainted from smoke and water damage. This was before cheap smoke alarms were available. Property can be destroyed. The burns to the people evacuating is what concerns me.
Not good indeed.......we got a couple nasties going on down here in Ventura and North LA counties tonight as well. Classic SAnta Ana winds which blow theses fires to the the sea through the Santa Monica(Malibu) Mountians . Nothing new and getting old!

Juan: it is 7pm Friday night I see several aircraft have been assigned to this fire have any of them been deployed or any aircraft fighting this fire as of right now
Kinda scary. My mom is just south of there at a family cabin in Clipper Mills. Thanks for the update Juan.
I will pray for the people affected. One question is brush management responsible for the amount of loss?
A real report ! not Fake sensationalism Thank you Juan
Your report is the first I heard of the Camp fire.

I'm praying for everyone up there. I've got friends who are up at the CCC fire center in Butte. Haven't heard from them. Hopefully everyone made it out.
That's so sad for all the people in the area. It's hard to imagine the speed of the fire burning 60 acres per minute... shaking head
Prayers to all affected 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you sir.
Anyone know if it burnt on Jordon Hill road or Deadwood road.?
Thank for real information , my wife has family in paradise.
I've lived with tornadoes in Kansas all my life hurricanes are horrific but fired just erases everything! The most destructive by far.
San Francisco Bay Area air quality is very bad today (Fri) but very glad you and family are safe.
Just saw in the paper that the Camp Fire was the costliest disaster in the world last year. $16.5b in losses, $12.5 of which was insured.
Why do I suspect arson is involved ? Any reports of convective activity and/or lightning in the key areas ? IOW I'll go one, two three on this one !
your doing a great job as citizen journalist
juan, would you like the news link's posted here too?
sure!
Juan the "Stud" - Nice commercial for Dermisil - would rather have see a Bud Light on the table. That said, any idea as to how it started ? - I know the Name of it is because of the area. As usual, I know you will update us as more info becomes available.
Thanks so much. MSM needs to hire you !!!!!!!
not yet...I shoulda moved that lotion...
Thoughts & Prayers to all and get everyone out safe. Afraid we may have lost a beautiful Northern California gem in this one. Where’s the F-n rain that used to be this time of year??? November in Northern California...🌧🌧☔️☔️
With all of the water in Ororville, why weren't any water tanker planes deployed?!
blancolirio ~ I don't think it's that crazy of an idea to incorporate military type technology towards fighting forest fires .
I hope you are doing well. We hear the fire is headed to Oroville...be safe.
thank you
Juan, is it known what started the fire?
not yet.
Thanks Juan, it's amazing how fast it travels, living in Pennsylvania we never seen such devastating fires and earthquakes you guys experience. The worse we get are snow and floods, which are still bad, but nothing like you guys.
I read today (somewhere) that it was a camp fire.
The fire is called the Camp fire after where it started not why it started. It started near the Camp Creek Road (Camp Creek) and Highway 70 (Feather River Hwy). 01:15
@@osakarose5612 I figured that out today. . lol.. ty
The town of Paradise and the Feather River Canyon area is / was such a beautiful place. The Santa Ana Winds are causing major fires in Southern Cal also..... PRAY FOR RAIN..!
Juan, do you know of the GEOMAC site? www.geomac.gov/viewer/viewer.shtml
Since I couldn't find any perimeters yesterday, I was using it to watch the growth. Under the Satellite Fire Detection group is the option for MODIS and VIIRS IBAND fire detection layers.
Thanks Nevada! Good to hear from you again.
@@osakarose5612 God forbid you get smothered...
Hope you and family are ok, and safe...
all clear here. Thanks Bill.
Not good indeed.......we got a couple nasties going on down here in Ventura and North LA counties tonight as well. Classic SAnta Ana winds which blow theses fires to the the sea through the Santa Monica(Malibu) Mountians . Nothing new and getting old!
Will all these trees be harvested?
no.
Is there some kind of logical reason why we don't harvest them?
How far is it from you? Will you need to evacuate? Take care.

This is absolutely heartbreaking.
My prayers to all those who will be dealing with this. Stay safe!
I hadn't heard about this. This is absolutely horrible!
