    A couple of tips...
    1. Snip off the clips alongside the inner panel that wraps around the forks and goes up to the dashboard. This enables the whole thing to tilt up without needing to remove the entire dashboard. This mod halves the time it takes to change the filter. I can do it in under 30 minutes start to finish with this modification.
    2. Apply a little grease on the mating surface of the two airbox pieces. The sealing from factory isn't perfect and this will reduce any chance of dust getting past the filter. Mine had dust on the bell mouths when I changed mine at 3000klms. 👍

    Thanks for showing this filter change in detail. Got the same bike and simply can´t believe what kind of work is involved only for a change of the filter element. My other bike (classic offroader) has its filter just under the seat. Taking it off, wash it and putting it back in should be a matter of 10mins max. I like your video but your statements reg "mapping" is a bit far-fetched, I think. Just putting another filter-element and another muffler on the bike, doesn´t necessarily provide more power. It might sound like more power but the truth is often different. Perhaps, you will do a video with riding experience after the mods. I´d be interested in fuel consumption (before/after) and low-rev torque behavior. Also, I wonder if the fuel-injection system will automatically adapt to more air through-flow...

    • @patkennedy1
      @patkennedy1 20 днів тому +2

      He did mention re-mapping the fuel as well, to adjust for the greater air flow. But yes, the "5 bhp" remains to be seen.

    • @IdealBike
      @IdealBike  20 днів тому

      @patkennedy1 It seems more than 5 HP when riding, but honestly I don't need so much power. The biggest benefit is the DELIVERY of the power and the throttle response. After couple of thousands Km I need to come back to you with a feedback

  • @fixento
    @fixento День тому +1

    The rear bolt is to act as an hinge so the tank swing back, to change the filter. The K&N filter will not increase the HP, A US tuning company measure hp with bike on a dyno with OEM filter and then with no filter. There was only a trace difference in HP on the Transalp with and without an air filter. The engineer did a good job, the engine get all the air it needs with an OEM filter.

    • @IdealBike
      @IdealBike  День тому +1

      @@fixento hello, the Air Filter alone means no HP more. But an air filter + Exhaust plus Remapping does (+5 HP)

    Thanks for the nice and extensive video of changing the air filter of the Transalp 750, Alami is an excellent mechanic, his advice to remove the fuel tank completely is correct, that is only a few minutes more work and it works much easier.
    There is a good reason for the air filter to be under the tank, if you want to get a lot of power from a motorcycle you need a large airbox, Honda did not place it there for nothing, moreover it is a place where the air filter does not get dirty as quickly as you have been able to see, under normal circumstances the air filter can easily remain in place for 20,000 km, I am curious how the KN filter works out and whether the power has increased. I am already looking forward to the next video. :)

      Thanks a lot for your thoughts, appreciate it. I am grateful that I'm able to have such a great mechanic as Alami, he makes anyway everything seem too easy and gives me lots of confidence when he's working on my bike. I look forward to share my riding experience now with the complete circle finished : Intake, Soft Remapping and Exhaust. A detailed video will follow very soon 🙏 Greetings

    Thank you very much for a very useful tutorial. Despite all the negative comments on the internet about the air filter servicing, it doesn't look too bad to me. Certainly no worse than on my old XL650 which was also under the tank. It stayed clean forever too. Honda engineers aren't stupid 😀.

    • @IdealBike
      @IdealBike  23 дні тому +2

      Indeed there is a purpose. Positioning the air filter under the fuel tank keep it cleaner. You have the proof right inside the video and the channel.

      How many Km do you make annually? Usually you have to make this at 24,000 Km. Are you making the maintenence by yourself always?

  • @patkennedy1
    @patkennedy1 20 днів тому +1

    Yes, it is a ridiculous amount of work just for the air filter. My element was almost identical to yours in terms of dirt - I did mine at 12,500 kms - and I also fitted a K&N, as I have done to most of my bikes. But I counted ten panels removed, and although I didn't count them all, at least 50 fasteners! As you noted, fourteen at the airbox alone. Yes, it's not that difficult, and of course it should be quicker the next time, but there is no doubt this has much more involved than it should, for a bike built to go on the dirt. I wouldn't fancy having my bike so dismantled at the roadside.
    I found it easier to leave the rear pivot in the tank, remove the restraint ribbon, and just prop the tank fairly vertically to work on the filter (I was doing mine on my own). I think I had to unhook the fuel hose from its clip to permit this. I would suggest getting the K&N 'Recharge Kit' - a bottle of cleaner, and a bottle of the red oil - at the same time as the filter. You will need it anyway to service it in the future, and that permits you to add a little extra oil to what it comes with. My bike still has the stock muffler, so I didn't remap it, but I think there was a slight gain in power, but only at higher RPM. I would be keen to keep the remarkable economy of the bike, which seems to be even better the longer I ride it. Not sure if the K&N has contributed to that.
    Let us know if you found extra power with yours. As to the claimed power - I think it is 92 PS (German Pferdestarke) which is 90.5 horsepower, just for accuracy. (And these measures are taken at the crankshaft, such that it will be around 77 at the rear wheel stock, if you dyno it). But you might gain some response at lower RPM with the muffler and the remap. Let us know, and how the fuel consumption was affected.
    Thanks for the tutorial Arthur. My Transalp is at 17,800 kms now, here in Australia, and I still love it.

    • @IdealBike
      @IdealBike  20 днів тому

      Thank you for your imputs very valuable. In terms of power I have now about 5HP more with the muffler, Soft Remapping (Stage 1) and Air Filter. The power delivery it's the greatest benefit, the fluidity of the engine and acceleration. Fuel Consumption need to recheck, seems to be the same as before but I was riding very aggressively

  • @human1513

    I practiced once when I 1st got the bike. It seemed to take me forever to figure it out.
    But the 2nd time it only took a few minutes and was not a big deal to do.
    I did not see any videos or have the Honda Service Manual at that time.
    I never use a K&N filter as they always never filter out as much dirt and dust as the stock filters. Which is why they flow more air. Not good for offroad. I am a licenced mechanic.
    I can also do an oil & filter change without removing the Hepco & Becker skidplater I installed. I remove nothing and make no mess. Simply use some tinfoil (the stuff used in a kitchen with food) to hand form an oil catch tray to lay on the skidplate. I put a block of wood under the front wheel so the oil would run to the rear. Then use a socket on an extension and a ratchet handle for the drain plug.
    A cup type oil filter wrench installed and removed from the left side and turned via a wrench once installed from the right side.

    I don't understand why you think you will do more km with the new air filter you installed? After all, the original filter is denser and has a larger sheet of filter paper than the new one.
    The very fact that more air will enter the engine through the new filter means that it has much less filtering elements and it is less good for the engine.
    In my opinion, if you had lowered, or opened a wider opening in the plastic cover of the original filter, much more air would easily enter the engine.
    Personally, I didn't get to the point of emptying the air filter and everything I write is based on what I saw in the video you took.
    And thanks for the video!

      Since 1999 I own an MZ Baghira (3 bolts on the seat to change the airfilter, oil-change is a little bit more of work, sparkplug very easy), after that I rode a couple of years an Suzuki SV 1000s (airfilter-change, oil-change and maintenance was easy too), since 2012 I ride BMW F800GS (remove the seat, 6 bolts to remove the middle-cover, 4 bolts to remove the airbox-cover - and I thinked, this is too much), oil-change is easy too. But sparkplugs and valve-clearing is a lot of work. Of course, the airfilter-change is not the only thing I do with motorcycles. But for me the D.I.Y. - maintenance-ability is very importand to be independent from dealers (and high prices for maintenance) and it is an indikator for good engeneering to make the bikes maintenance-friendly. I like "the middleweight-SUV´s on two wheels", they give me the freedom for independent travelling and camping, ride to work (offroad too, if I want). But for me the D.I.Y. - maintenance-ability is very importand to be independent from dealers (and high prices for maintenance).

      Because I've ridden off-road, dust, waters, mud and I said why not to check it. The second reason was the quality of the K&N air filters, they are offering a long maintenance intervals and general longer lifetime. In combination with the Hp Corse exhaust and the Map Soft it's a different riding experience in terms of acceleration, torque, sound, engine fluidity and smoothness.
