Ha! I've been searching for this for YEARS. That was me at the 37:48 mark asking Scorsese a question. A wonderful discussion, eleven years ago now. Thanks so much for posting.

I just find it amusing that both of you managed to use "your" (*you're*) incorrectly. Sort of ironic when you were bitching at one another about being clever... All part of the UA-cam bickering fun I guess.

Scorsese has a pretty unique voice since I admire his enthusiasm and the films he directed.

I'm no sure if anyone has brought this up yet, but Marty mentions that Gangs uses the music of the streets from that period - a fife & drum - to create the score for the film. I was wondering if anyone else noticed that during the scene in Taxi Driver, when Travis & Betsy are walking to the move theater, they pass the street drummer calling out past tunes, which then cuts to someone playing what sounds like either a flute or fife in the background.

I love Scorsese’s work but he’s a bloke who directs movies not a deity. And this is a discussion forum. Scorsese of course took it in stride.

    26:28: "I'm from Boston." "That's another story!"
He already knew he was going to do The Departed.

Does anyone know the name of the man interviewing him?

Oddly, perhaps, but it's Michael Ovitz, former head of CAA (the talent agency Creative Artists Agency) and former head of Disney (1995-1997). I don't believe he was ever Scorcese's 'agent' though Wikipedia asserts that he has 'advised' Scorcese over the years so they clearly have, or had at the time of this interview, some kind of trusting relationship.

I love that Scorsese is a fan of The Clash. Would LOVE to see him do a biopic of the band, or at least direct a documentary about them.
