The thing about counterparts in Honkaiverse, is that they're shaped by their surroundings, not vice-versa. They're meant to show different paths, different what-if's for characters. ^_^ Also! OG Kevin (GGZ/HG2) is a genderbent Kiana!

have you not seen Kevin's lore? he started out with the same personality as Kiana. He WAS a pure hearted fantasy protagonist until The Honkai kept collecting W's. The Kevin we saw in Elysian Realm was from what was essentially "The Final Days" of the previous era and he personally saw the decline happen in real time. That was THE LEAST depressed version we actually interacted with. Phainon just still has hope is all.
I really hope Kalpas is here and that they don't make him look stupid too... Kevin's star rail design hurts. It's just so, _not_ him. No amount of copium makes it a substitute for his distinct *absence* in Honkai Impact's playable cast. Wake me when Kalpas appears and then again when Siegfried appears. Until then, I slep.

@Ichigo2k9 Phainon is Kevin, just looks different(worse imo) and has a different name. But I'm willing to bet its the same guy when you get down to the core of his personality. The same "soul", so to speak. And that's why the look bothers me. It's not because they didn't copy-paste his Honkai Impact design, it's because I don't feel like it suits him and I think it looks too bland. Now, it _could_ grow on me with context, to be fair... but I get the sense that'll only go so far. The design simply doesn't reflect his "soul" nor the legacy passed onto him. Of course, if the Honkai Impact Kevin got isekai'd for whatever reason they can make up, the need for "Phainon" to uphold that legacy wouldn't really be there. Even if he was playable in Honkai Impact, that need would be significantly reduced. But neither has happened yet, so Phainon has to be to Kevin what Luocha is to Otto. A lowkey reincarnation under a different name, and who carries on the core characteristics of the original and has a design to more or less reflect that. Unfortunately, it seems they've already messed that up, at least with his normal form... But he might have a transformed form, so hope isn't lost just yet.
Imaginary bleed maybe (we've sort of seen an example with Himeko being implied to have seen the HI3 trio in a dream). Also since Honkai Alternates are just the result of The Imaginary Tree using the same "blueprints" across different realities you often end up with people being "the same yet different" as Acheron put it. for example in Elysian Realm, Su mentions that he's been completely unable to peer into another timeline where Elysia lives because even if she does exist, she always sacrifices herself for the sake of humanity as a whole. "canon events" as they've come to be known lol.
