  • @BadenPowellTux

I started using it about a week ago. I love this office suite, I was using Libre Office and WPS Office but the integration with my system was just not good enough (using MX Linux) . I'm a huge user of dark themes and Libre office is just bad at it and in WPS dark themes are a joke. Only office comes with a dark theme integrated that works flawlessly, perhaps not a big deal but I need it since I work in a basement. Just like he said compatibility with Microsoft Office is just really good, no problems so far. I totally recommend using this office suite. The only not too bad thing I guess is that sometimes I want or need some templates but I have no idea how to install new ones nor where to get new ones. Nice review.

For example gtk intergration ruined libre office bcs it forces the systems darktheme upon the app. Wich means that for example libreoffice writer dark mode looks terrible and unusable bcs the icons are darked out. And there is no way to fix this other than a workaround.

    1. Adding a toolbar in the bottom for showing word count for the document.

Just tried the new version - still not for me. Still lags and struggles with particularly large spreadsheets and lacks basic find / replace all functionality. Not to mention I've had issues with formatting between it and MS Office. WPS Office continues to be my preferred office suite on Linux. Closest experience to MS Office, best compatibility (in my use case). It's sad people seem to shun it because it's Chinese and closed source. But if you want something installed on your own server with docker, OnlyOffice is the way to go, I agree.

The only thing that I have issue with is the inability to manipulate individual cells in a table in the writer applications. Aside from this small point, every office suite I've used have felt basically the same for any purpose I've needed it for.
Libreoffice doesn't even allow the deletion of single cells, only entire rows or columns.
Onlyoffice isn't much better. It does allow the removal of individual cells, but it shifts the entire row so there's a space on the right side instead of simply removing the one you don't want. In spite of this, it retains the categorical alignment of the cells in spite of their new position. Very confusing.
I very much wish there was an option to modify cells in the same manner you would a row or column. I can't imagine a reason this wouldn't have been implemented in even the earliest versions.

Do you have to install all of the MS fonts for this compatible, or it is already configured out of the box?

Does this new version have support for adding, editing and deleting text styles? Table styles? If not, still is not an alternative for me.

Can Open Office import MS Office.xlsx files? I was using Libre Office and it could not duplicate all of the functions/features of the XML files in Microsoft’s products. Mainly I was testing Excel and I would get errors/notifications like the MS spreadsheet had too many cells, rows, or columns to import.
Online, MS explained there are differences in what their XML based files can do vs the Open Document Files.

Although the interface is nice compared to compartmentalized LibreOffice, you highlighted the incompatibilities with pdf files first. That turned me off from OnlyOffice instantly.

Sorry, but this is definitely not the best Office for Linux. Have ylu ever tried Softmaker Office or it's free version FreeOffice? It's much better. You can use it for free or you can buy tbe full version - it's up to you. And no matter if which OS, it is always the same - Android, Linux, Mac or Windows. Even iOS... It's super compatible with docx or odt, fast and it easy to install... and with the repository it's always up to date. I love it and use it every day.
