Wow, they really made it difficult to change the filter compared to my 535. Remove the engine bars and the airbox? Seriously. The 535 is 5 screws and you're done.
Wow, the music portion of your video is way, way to loud. Might be fine on a smartphone, but watching on the tv with the surround sound system, it's frightening.

Bob, any torque requirements for the cross bar screws? I am assuming they are designed to take high impact in case of a collision. Also, because they are structurally designed, do you need to buy new screws?

Engine air filters would not be charcoal...you are thinking of the cabin air filter.
Lol...when you're doing the video and talking and doing the job....that's what happens! Like doing sit ups and push ups at once....hahaha

Very thorough and helpful video! I just picked up a 2020 X3 so I'll be doing this soon. I bought mine through my local BMW's certified pre-owned program. They say they installed a new air filter before I bought my X3 but who knows.

Hi Bob, Is it really necessary to remove the entire air box to change the air filter? Haven't seen any other tutorials, but hoping to avoid complete box removal if I can. Thanks. Craig
Craig, You can get away with just removing the top portion and the crossbar. Both methods take about the same time. I like cleaning up underneath, but you don't have to go full monty ;)
What model year is in this video? What is the Hengst part#? I ask b/c I have a 2019 X3 M40i and have read online that although the replacement filter is the same shape and may look to be the same size for 2018+ G01 X3 M40i models, the filter box size differs on some model years.

According to visible VIN, car in video is a 2019 X4 M40i. On my 2020 X3 sDrive30i, the strut bars have ordinary hex heads, not e-Torx.
Quite possible that they changed this in 2020
