OMG THE TRANSFORMATION SCENE IS AMAZING, the quality is far from our recent anime. I guess nowadays anime series with this kind of quality is considered a movie anime not a series one.
alucardF91 Anime OVAs back in the 80s and 90s tend to have strong animation due to the bubble economy at the time (which allowed anime to advance as far as it did) and the fact that the format (of an OVA) provided animators with a flexible schedule. TV anime follows a week by week schedule, so they don’t have time to animate things on this level. If Gunbuster was a TV show instead, it may have ran into production issues which would have set the schedule back a bit (knowing Gainax, that may have been the case). In any case, the animation back then was surely phenomenal, but it’s largely due to some other factors that have sort of disappeared in recent times.

TV series have to follow a strict schedule which is usually disrupted causing failure in quality control. It’s been an evident theme in the modern era that streaming is the best way to watch anime. This caused a lot of issues for OVAs and thus the existence of them has gone quite unknown (other than being special episodes in DVD sets for existing series). Another contender has been showing up as a means to create short series (the ONA). I expect to see it evolve in something greater in the future. Note: OVAs don’t air. You buy them when they are released.
Gunbuster is basically what a REALTYPE GETTER would look like. Even without Getter Rays, HARD WORK AND GUTS works just as well when paired with the hilariously advanced tech in it.
But thats Neo Getter Robo/Getter Robo Go as it's powered by Plazma/fusion power -_- but yes Gunbuster is basicly a younger cousin of Getter Robo when it comes to hot blooded pilots Noriko could easly handle piloting a Getter. Hell Ryoma is impresed by the machine and it's pilot when it comes to crossovers in Super Robot Wars.
Ano, the writer and director for Gunbuster, said Getter Robo was the main inspiration for the robot and the series. There were several planned attacks that were straight up borrowed from Getter but had to be cut in the final version, such as the Buster Axe and Buster Home Run. If you look closely at the transformation sequence you get a brief glimpse inside the shoulder pylons if Gunbuster. You can see the axe and baseball bat in collapsed forms for half a second before they are covered by a sliding panel.
It was actually episode 4 when we were first shown the Gunbuster the only problem was it was launched when it wasn't even ready but Noriko took it out and fought the monsters near Halley's Comet and we only got to see Gunbuster use 2 of it's weapons systems the Buster Beam and the Buster Collider in the arms and it sure would have made that episode if we could have seen Gunbuster use it's other weapons as well as the thing clearly had the firepower of an entire freaking battle fleet in it's arsenal.
I’ve never heard of this anime before until I watched a compilation of anime openings throughout the years. Once I found gunbuster I went to find the theme and I loved it, now that I found this I’d love to actually watch this anime and just awe and marvel at it, it’s one of my favorite looking anime’s in terms of styles :3
@@ColonelMidi I tried to watch it, stopped after ep 3. I couldn't force myself to watch more, it's not that animation aged so bad, it's ok I just couldn't get into that story and plot. I did enjoy Urusei Yatsura more.
Lx Dead I think you should finish it and see where it leads you. When I first watched it, nothing about it other than the charm of the 80s really sold me. It was after I finished episode 6 (the last episode) that I realized what Gunbuster really had to offer. Sure, the story isn’t too great, but it’s the ideas and themes that really shine in the last scene (and you realize how evident they were throughout the OVA). Perhaps it’ll fly over your head, but if you manage to take it all in, then it’s something you can add to your list of experiences. For me, it truly felt like true “otaku media”. Edit: Don’t force yourself though. Perhaps try again in the far future?

What's the point of forcing Yourself if You can feel that's it's not Your "fable"? Urusei Yatsura looks actually uglier than Gunbuster, yet it's just more enjoyable, whole concept is a god damn hilarious :) Same with HNK, animation didn't stand chance of time, yet it has those characters and plot, that is really interesting. I couldn't sense anything in Gunbuster to watch it, except for the animation style.
Lx Dead I mean, the majority of my favourite things became favourites long after I watched their first episode. It took me a long time after finishing Manabi Straight to finally give it a 10/10. Sure, you can get that “feeling” from the first, but you aren’t going to receive any true ideas if you drop it before you experience it all. That’s what art is, but it won’t do too much if you drop it. Gunbuster tends to fly over people’s head, and that may be because you either didn’t understand, or you don’t care. Don’t force yourself to watch it if this happens (that’s why I suggested picking it back up in the future). Most people would benefit from not trying to watch it, that’s fine. I just think it’s worth it to at least stick until the ending as there’s only 3 episodes left. Waste of time? - sure, but at least now you know. If you only try to find things you like on the first episode, I think it’s stubborn. You know what you know, but you won’t know anything else. Maybe something won’t offer what you want, but the point is to receive what it gives rather than seeking for whatever. That’s not an issue if your priorities are straight and expanding your consumption of media is of no importance for you. My dad wouldn’t give a damn about Gunbuster on the first viewing, and he sure wouldn’t stick around since he has other business to attend to.

I'm not a big fan of super robots so the core of my team are the gundams and the Tyranado but I also have some aboslute units like the Gunbuster, Shin Getter Dragon and the Mazin and I must adimit that they get some serious shit done

Better than 80% of most modern Moe harem junk they pump out to take advantage of overworked men who have no time for a relationship but desprate for one. There is still some good stuff out there though -_- just not as much.
@@demi-fiendoftime3825 I mean anime is so big now they don't even try to impress watchers by making innovative changes or "big jumps" as i like to call it. The likes of life changing experiences in nowadays animes are just nowhere to be found. I don't mind any artstyle, but i can tell when animators gets lazy. I really hope to see something topping things like Evangelion or Gunbuster in the future but from the look of things i will have to wait a long time
@@maahrooreekee4295 Eva 3.0+1.0 is next year and Aim for the Top 3 is in early devlopment and aiming for a mid 2020s relase, Gundam has its UC 100 Next plan adapting works fans have long wanted to see animated along with new stuff in the pipeline for 00 and IBO. Mecha anime is preping for its comback tour so I'd keep your eyes open if I were you.

Mecha anime is preping for its comback tour so I'd keep your eyes open if I were you.

バスターホームラン以外に、縮退した瞬間、一瞬画面に出るエリトリウムの機械のアナログメーターの計器類があったのです（それも、VHS版でしか見ていない）他にもあるかもしれませんが、どうもその後、DVD版等、それ以降のメディアになったときにカットされている部分が幾つかあるのではないかと考えています
