No, the women really did take part in the protest, but the joke is the sketch is bad because of it. Generally speaking, it seems to me the majority of the people at SNL are feminists, and this sketch was probably written by the two of them like they said, but they were purposefully making it awful. As for the other sketches in this episode, the female writers and cast probably wrote some sketches on Tuesday and Thursday knowing they wouldn't be there on Wednesday, and the male writers at SNL also realize that turning this episode into some kind of a bro fest would result in Tina Fey will probably come into the writers room on Monday and kick all of them in the balls, even though she doesn't work there anymore. Still, even though the sketch was written mostly by men (if you watch some of the "making of SNL" videos you see that they always do some revising on Thursday and Friday) the joke works not only on the level that men don't always manage to help women when they set out to do so with things like this, but also shows what happens when writing rooms aren't diverse. It's really a great sketch.
I don't think the joke is that it's bad because there was no woman. The joke is that they don't get how what they're doing is ignorant and that they're silencing the women in the cast and speaking on their behalf.
I once had a male film "director" gift me with his self published, self authored book. It was all about how men have screwed up women and what women need to do to fix it. He was beyond pathological but his book was a comedic gold mine :D
Just some more of that constant posturing for superiority people desperately assume for themselves these days. They’re sooo smart and superior they got the highly cerebral and sophisticated SNL skit that they incorrectly assume others didn’t... I’m so sick of internet geeks trying to make themselves feel cool as they cyber insult strangers they’d socially and intellectually fumble around in person.
Yes!!!! This sketch is what I need in my life. It explains women's issues while also showing that women don't really have strong voices or that women get covered up with others voices.
Watched this in a class the other day and I had to watch a group of guys *genuinely* not get the joke or why people were laughing, or why the girls in the class said it’s “so wrong.” Lol wow. Should I give up now or?
No, it was definitely a Democrat congressional hearing on women's issues. Completely made up, pandering, full of shit, and causing more harm than good.
It's awesome that the women are up for participating in this kind of humor! And ironically, the female cast members are actually overshadowing their male counterparts in recent seasons of SNL.
So brave of these men to talk out about how pushed down womem are so often. I'm so grateful for these men to be there to support women, and they're so right. Women so often aren't given a voice in society, and that IS bad. Let's thank them for saying that :)
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the point of this skit is to show that while this is a big issue that women face, oftentimes men get credit recognizing these things. As if being kind to women makes you a better man, when in reality, that’s how a normal person should ALWAYS treat women. Again, this SNL skit kind of went over my head as I was trying to understand better
It's about derogatorily using the term "girls," for obviously grown women. And saying the women all have a story to tell, and then not asking about it. And doing ALL the talking.
This is why it’s important to be progressive. I wished more women would understand how much I understand their struggles. Too bad they keep trying to talk when I’m trying to let them know that I understand their pain
Funny subtle touch, the men are named IMMEDIATELY "its so good to see you ACE and JAKE" and neither Aidy or Scarlett character are named or recognised as anything but 'girls' also, the "is that true?" line from Aidy and Scars characters is hilarious when talking about micro aggressions, its that patronising and mindset that women know less as a man on behalf of women, id like to say great sketch
People are truly missing the whole point here. The joke is not in the skit, the skit is the joke itself (if you can't already tell from the contrived nature of this video). This is not a post of hate, it's just an analysis of all the symbolism of common notions of modern-day sexism: 1. The fact that the men had names but the women are just referred to as "these women" --> no consideration of a woman's individual identity 2. The fact that the men decided to write a speech all about women --> men think they know all that women have been through; in fact, they have never lived as a woman so despite knowing all the facts, they can't truly understand what it's like being a woman. The whole idea of you will never be able to fully step into someone's shoes. 3. The fact that when men talk about the grievances of women, they don't let them speak --> still not respecting what they've got to say, thinking they know better, mansplaining, overpowering women with their speech by taking away their voice and agency 4. Calling them girls --> very demeaning. They are women, not girls. 5. Lorde --> again the whole "men know better" 6. Writing the same line for women --> again removes their individuality, also show the idea of men liking women who agree/praise them/plump their ego ("thank you for saying that"), non-argumentative women, no actual views of their own 7. Disparity in number of lines --> could perhaps reflect men's perception of women's lack of ability + this play purports to be a microcosm of the real world: men dominate this play as they do in the real world 8. Going to the table of women --> jumps into the assumption that all women want to complain about sexism (this is not a particularly strong analysis of mine, just throwing it out there, just feel like it's a bit of the "here we go again, let's hear you whine" kind of attitude 9. The constant glancing at the camera + exaggerated tone of voice --> men's concern as somewhat superficial at times, it's all "for show" (this sketch is super metatheatrical) 10 "They are called micro-aggressions...is that true" --> sounds straight out of "Father knows best" --> men teaching women, men in a more superior, knowledgeable position. 11. Sarcastic tone of voice --> questioning "do they even care" 12. When they talk about women they don't look at them --> kind of hypocritical, not real respect for women, no real concern. Again "it's just for show". Also, men talk is for men, women shouldn't but in (like they are "looking from the outside", and are part of an out-group as opposed to the men's in-group). What do you think? Any more things to add to this list?
can you blame men? they're reenacting the behavior they observed in the home as children. women need to put a foot down on mansplaining in their personal relationships as mothers and wives if they want this behavior to stop. i suspect they won't because in the end men love to be listened to and admired more so than women. roughly 90% of patents in the US still from men. and when woman-only patents (not multiple sexes on patent), women only account for 4% of US patents. we know which sex has the creative juices. i hope these stats change.
you literally have to scroll eight miles down the comment section to see anything even related to sexism here, so why is everyone acting like there’s a whole coalition of angry men ranting
@@TheEyeball37 it was funny, thats part of it, but it also highlights their frustration with their male co-stars...the beautiful comment was a little tone deaf
This is so brilliant, so witty, and just so well put together. the acting and script, all come together perfectly! wow, so brilliant and witty! it was really well put together!! such great acting and writing! it all comes together! ....
Ace and Jake really spoke to me. Really brave things to say. Great sketch for women's equality. Sexism is bad folks and we should tell eachother more often about how bad it is. Again bravo, ace and Jake for standing up to society.
When I was in high school, 10th grade, in 1986 there was a big news story: Barbara Mikulski was the first female Democrat elected a full term to the U.S. Senate. When she was seated, there were a total of two women and 98 men. Now there are 28 women in the Senate. A lot less rare than it was back in my youth.
Every argument I ever have with one of my friends ever, he's just talking over me just like this. It's hard to tell whether it's because I'm a girl or because of whatever other Petty drama that comes without a license, but it's quite annoying not being able to have a voice sometimes.
All the women allowed to take part in this skit must feel so empowered.

Hey everyone, it’s me Scarlett. And me, 80.
Whoa...I never realized her name is also a number. Holy shit
I can’t unsee this.
Zebulous it’s how I explained to my mom how to pronounce her name! Lmao
!! I will never be able to hear it another way!!
OMG WHAT LMAO
So, would Scarlett be considered a cast member-in-law?
I once had a male film "director" gift me with his self published, self authored book. It was all about how men have screwed up women and what women need to do to fix it. He was beyond pathological but his book was a comedic gold mine :D
Ava Masquerade what’s the book called?
We require quotes
Could've given the guys a chance to speak
I see a lot of comments about people criticizing other commenters for "not getting it", but no comments from people who didn't seem to get it.
Ikr? I mean I'm looking but everyone seems to get the joke
This is exactly what it's like. It's a weird intellectual understanding but not an in-person visceral awareness of their behaviour.
Yes!!!! This sketch is what I need in my life. It explains women's issues while also showing that women don't really have strong voices or that women get covered up with others voices.
This would’ve been such a great skit if Aidy and Scarlett wouldn’t have been so annoying here 😕 Lorde didn’t help either
Before anyone comments this was sarcasm
@@britneyspearsstan you can't have it both ways. Use sarcasm and stand the risk or don't use it at all.

Watched this in a class the other day and I had to watch a group of guys *genuinely* not get the joke or why people were laughing, or why the girls in the class said it’s “so wrong.” Lol wow. Should I give up now or?
It's your duty to explain it.
Especially how the women all have a story, but none if the men ASK about it.
Felt like a GOP congressional hearings on women issues. Plagiarized. Lol.
No, it was definitely a Democrat congressional hearing on women's issues. Completely made up, pandering, full of shit, and causing more harm than good.
Karen Carpenter I copied down your video history and subscriptions
Because they’re so fucking funny and make me laugh every single time I see them
Genessa B I just looked too lol of course she would watch Logan Paul 😂😂
Karen Carpenter Oh you're one of those douchebags who has a hate boner for Antia Sarkeisan. Okay guys ignore this one it's a complete fucking idiot.
condescending bitch stfu
hysterical! And I don't know if this matters or not... But I am a married 54-year-old woman with FOUR daughters! And we all found it hysterical!!
It's awesome that the women are up for participating in this kind of humor! And ironically, the female cast members are actually overshadowing their male counterparts in recent seasons of SNL.
on behalf of all women, as another humble yet fierce male feminist, I’d like to thank you for boldly saying that Ace and Jake.
*generic guy comment stating i'm not like this at all so women thank me*
So brave of these men to talk out about how pushed down womem are so often. I'm so grateful for these men to be there to support women, and they're so right. Women so often aren't given a voice in society, and that IS bad. Let's thank them for saying that :)
LOL Kyle/Beck (AND EVERY SINGLE FEMALE CAST MEMBER + Scarlett) are THE BEST!
Too bad they keep trying to talk when I’m trying to let them know that I understand their pain
lmao
Funny subtle touch, the men are named IMMEDIATELY "its so good to see you ACE and JAKE" and neither Aidy or Scarlett character are named or recognised as anything but 'girls'
also, the "is that true?" line from Aidy and Scars characters is hilarious when talking about micro aggressions, its that patronising and mindset that women know less
as a man on behalf of women, id like to say great sketch
i love the fact that kyle and beck are kinda the main players now
This skit was perfect because they're actually supposed to be reading off a cue card for a change.
Scarlett has such a genuinely confused look on her face, I'm laughing so much😂😂😂😂
Audience members laughing one at a time as they slowly realize what's happening
People are truly missing the whole point here. The joke is not in the skit, the skit is the joke itself (if you can't already tell from the contrived nature of this video). This is not a post of hate, it's just an analysis of all the symbolism of common notions of modern-day sexism:
1. The fact that the men had names but the women are just referred to as "these women" --> no consideration of a woman's individual identity
2. The fact that the men decided to write a speech all about women --> men think they know all that women have been through; in fact, they have never lived as a woman so despite knowing all the facts, they can't truly understand what it's like being a woman. The whole idea of you will never be able to fully step into someone's shoes.
3. The fact that when men talk about the grievances of women, they don't let them speak --> still not respecting what they've got to say, thinking they know better, mansplaining, overpowering women with their speech by taking away their voice and agency
4. Calling them girls --> very demeaning. They are women, not girls.
5. Lorde --> again the whole "men know better"
6. Writing the same line for women --> again removes their individuality, also show the idea of men liking women who agree/praise them/plump their ego ("thank you for saying that"), non-argumentative women, no actual views of their own
7. Disparity in number of lines --> could perhaps reflect men's perception of women's lack of ability + this play purports to be a microcosm of the real world: men dominate this play as they do in the real world
8. Going to the table of women --> jumps into the assumption that all women want to complain about sexism (this is not a particularly strong analysis of mine, just throwing it out there, just feel like it's a bit of the "here we go again, let's hear you whine" kind of attitude
9. The constant glancing at the camera + exaggerated tone of voice --> men's concern as somewhat superficial at times, it's all "for show" (this sketch is super metatheatrical)
10 "They are called micro-aggressions...is that true" --> sounds straight out of "Father knows best" --> men teaching women, men in a more superior, knowledgeable position.
11. Sarcastic tone of voice --> questioning "do they even care"
So, basically what you're saying is that we don't get it because it was feminist propaganda.
IT'S SATIRE. THE POINT IS THAT THEY ARE DOING ALL OF THESE STEREOTYPES AND GENERAL SEXIST THINGS MEN DO TO DRAW ATTENTION TO HOW RIDICULOUS IT IS.
Charis Kehler EXACTLY THANK YOU FINALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS
can you blame men? they're reenacting the behavior they observed in the home as children. women need to put a foot down on mansplaining in their personal relationships as mothers and wives if they want this behavior to stop. i suspect they won't because in the end men love to be listened to and admired more so than women.
roughly 90% of patents in the US still from men. and when woman-only patents (not multiple sexes on patent), women only account for 4% of US patents.

Ace and Jake really spoke to me.
Really brave things to say. Great sketch for women's equality. Sexism is bad folks and we should tell eachother more often about how bad it is. Again bravo, ace and Jake for standing up to society.
The funniest part is that this is EXACTLY what it’s like.
These men are so brave!
When I was in high school, 10th grade, in 1986 there was a big news story:
Barbara Mikulski was the first female Democrat elected a full term to the U.S. Senate. When she was seated, there were a total of two women and 98 men.
Now there are 28 women in the Senate. A lot less rare than it was back in my youth.
So 30 years to get to to the 25% marker and still not reflect the population...yay for progress
I don't think those women fully appreciated just how much Kyle and Beck were doing for them.
When you realize you never hear any of the womens' names, but the mens' are clearly stated.... *chef's kiss*

The moment you are such a good actor that I am trying really hard to figure out if you are really acting or not, then you have succeeded.
Kyle and Beck are brilliant.
Every argument I ever have with one of my friends ever, he's just talking over me just like this. It's hard to tell whether it's because I'm a girl or because of whatever other Petty drama that comes without a license, but it's quite annoying not being able to have a voice sometimes.
Watch how he talks to other guys.
I think we can all agree that the women or the “girls” talked wayyyy to much about their “problems” like it’s not all about them 🙄
