You don't need this overcomplicated method. Just use "Edit interactions" with either the "highlight" or "filter" option. This video is just far too nerdy.
@@alderiks By doing it the way you describe it would not be dynamic, which is the goal of the end user. This video give a great technique that can be expanded and used in multiple scenarios. The video is pointing at the stars and you are only looking at the finger.

The last 2 digits should be a hex number, your method works but have a gradient of 100 transparency levels instead of 256
