Pop-up Book Spread Assembly Vol. 5: A Season in Hell pl. 6
Again, I don’t know if this is of any interest? It’s the cutting and assembling of the 6th spread of my recent artist’s pop-up book A SEASON IN HELL.
This spread is exemplary of two things I like in pop-ups but which can be tricky to use in a book: curves and noise (yeah, if you listen closely, or have had the actual book in hand, the friction upon opening makes a cool noise). It's also exemplary of how the repetition of a simple mechanism can reinforce the effect and impression on the reader. It ended up (it's a also a matter of book flow) being shades of green, which give off a vegetable feeling to it, which in turn may lighten the gravity of the poem?
This spread typographs and animates the 1st part of "The Impossible" by Arthur Rimbaud.

And by the way, with the exception of the generic "Hungarian Map", a rotated "Turkish / Exploding Map", all PE designs (movable paper sculptures, really) of A Season in Hell are original, i.e. none stem in any existing artwork. There is room enough for creative freedom and innovation (= art, really); no need to copy anyone or do always the same thing. Same with all my Movable Calligrams too.

Une fois encore, je ne sais pas si ceci a le moindre intérêt ? C’est le découpage et l’assemblage du 6e tableau de mon livre animé d’artiste récent, UNE SAISON EN ENFER.
Ce tableau rassemble deux choses que j'aime dans les pop-ups mais qui peuvent être difficiles à mettre en œuvre dans un livre : les courbes et le bruit (oui, si vous écoutez attentivement ou avec eu l'occasion d'avoir le livre en main, la friction à l'ouverture fait un bruit intéressant). Il est aussi un bon exemple de la manière dont la répétition d'un mécanisme simple peut renforcer l'effet et l'impression sur le lecteur. Les couleurs sont en fin de compte (c'est aussi une question de "flow" du livre entier) des nuances de vert, qui lui donnent un air végétal, qui à son tour allège peut-être la gravité du poème ?

Et en passant, à l'exception de la "Carte hongroise" générique, une "carte turque / explosive" pivotée, tous les systèmes (des sculptures animées de papier, en fait) d'Une Saison en Enfer sont originaux, c'est-à-dire qu'aucun ne se base sur une œuvre existante. Il y a suffisamment de champ libre pour la liberté de création et l'innovation (= l'art, en fait) ; nul besoin de copier ni toujours faire la même chose. Ainsi de tous mes Calligrammes animés, aussi.
