Kyle Filipowski shot roughly 35% at the three his last year of college ball.
This dude would fit the Pels and what Coach Green is doing on offense and defense. Our shooting Coach can help with his shot, he's done wonders for Herb Jones, and Dyson Daniels.
How do you see Flip fitting in next to Zion and BI? Genuinely curious. Thanks for watching!
I’m sure he’s improved a lot since this video came out but none the less he’s seems like a perfect fit for okc
I totally agree that Flip would be a nice fit in OKC. I think he's kept rounding himself out in his sophomore season, but really, I'd say he's still fairly similar to his freshman year. I was a bit higher on him than most, though.
It's just that he's not playing alongside Dereck Lively now, so the paint is more "his," so to speak, and that his three-point numbers have gone up (although I already found his shot projectable last season).
@@FloorandCeilingDefinitely and Chet needs a big body center next to him. This will open up his game defensively and offensively 🔥
Hes going to be a beast
I think he's being slept on, to an extent. I've had him as a lottery pick all draft cycle long. Last season, I'm pretty sure Flip ended in the top 20ish or so of my big board before he pulled out of the 2023 draft.
I like him too. Others have mentioned Kelly Olynyk as a comp. I'm not big comp guy most of the time. But that's one that actually does sound about right to me.
Thanks for watching! I can definitely see it in terms of rebounding and stretching the floor, but Olynyk was a better finisher at the rim I think + maybe a bit more explosive. Filipowski is a better ballhandler and playmaker though
@@carlosbernardo-nunez Tough to say right now since he's barely played the 5 full-time but his ballhandling and passing are really encouraging. Sabonis was probably already more comfortable being physical than Flip though
Forget athleticism. He has legit size, good footwork, above average handles for his size and the instinctual feel of a true hooper. The Hawks need to find a way to acquire him. Maybe not at #1 but through some sort of draft day trade for a later pick. A big crafty forward is exactly what Trae Young has been missing.
Also plays better defense than he's given credit for imo. Thanks for watching!
@@FloorandCeiling While his shot got better as a Sophomore I feel like the biggest improvement he made was as a ball handler and finisher. Dude is one of the craftiest players in the class and he’s someone I have a top10 grade on
Interesting player. I was surprised by his good ball handling and passing ability. If he improves his three point shooting (he is now at a poor 27%) he has a chance in the NBA.
He is a low cost Markkanen and can benefit in the draft from the good season the Finnish player is having.
I trust that his three-pointer will improve. He has solid mechanics, footwork, and doesn't need too much space since he's a 7-footer. It is definitely a swing skill, though.
Compared to Markkanen, I'd say Flip is a better playmaker/ballhandler than Lauri was at this stage, but Markkanen was a much better and versatile shooter.
Can you do Kyle's scouting report as a center? I think he should be great frontcourt partner with Jaren Jackson in Memphis. As of today, this is very realistic option
I’ll have an updated video on him this season! I like what I’ve been seeing from Flip.
After watching his matchup against DJ Burns (Elite 8 - 2024) it is clear that Filipowski cannot play center in the NBA. At least on defense.
CHICAGO!!!
His defense is a concern but he will be a role player in the NBA
I think he'll have a long NBA career. Defense won't be impeccable, but it's better than given credit for and he'll improve. Thanks for watching!
I'm hoping he comes to Memphis with the 7~8th pick in the draft. He would fit exceptionally well with Jaren
I like the fit, but the big I like the most next to Jaren Jackson Jr. is Donovan Clingan.
@@FloorandCeiling yeah I hear that a lot and makes sense but for Memphis, they are going into the offseason with two clear priorities: shooting wherever they can get it and size in the frontcourt. Only Kyle in this entire draft fits both criteria. Plus his shot and offensive versatility is criminally underrated because the %s aren't there yet. He'll also help their bad half court offense.
He will still be relevant in 2040. Such a high floor.
Yeah, I totally agree. I’d still feel good about picking him in the lottery.
Why don’t you see a Markannen comp and do you now? Where you think he gets taken?
I see Flip being taken in the top 12. He's a surefire lotto pick for me. I'll have a new video on him this year.
The reason why I don't see a Markkanen comp is because I feel like Lauri is more dynamic as a shooter (he can take be used in legit off-ball action to get him looks from three, whereas Flip is more of a catch-and-shoot or pick-and-pop big) and more comfortable off the bounce.
I feel like Mo Wagner plays more similarly to Flip, which isn't as flashy but it's pretty good imo. Flip is gonna be way younger than Mo coming out of school, he's a better ballhandler and further along as a decision maker, and this should translate to 25ish minutes in the NBA.
Top 5 on 2024 nba draft
I have him right outside my top 10 right now. Thanks for watching!
hes going to toronto
This guy has the potential to be the best bigman in the draft I would love to see him in a Laker uniform
Makes a lot of sense in LA imo. With LeBron, D’Lo, Reaves, etc. all he’ll have to do on offense is set good screens (he can still improve at this) and roll hard to the rim to finish. He has to finish layups better, but his dunking is unbelievable.
I'm getting strong Kelly Olynyc vibes
Agreed. I think Olynyk or Mo Wagner are decent comps in terms of potential role and skill set
Chip England in OKC will get this man game right beyond the 3 point arc. Chet needs this next to him. He would be perfect⚡️🔥
Is Jonathan Kuminga better than Cam Whitmore ?
Stay tuned for a video on Whitmore. I think they're totally different players.
Heatle
I have Flip higher than 15 on my personal big board, but I'm assuming he'll be available in that range come draft time.
LETS GO KNICKS.............GET HIM IF POSSIBLE EVEN 1%
reminds me of lauri
I can see why with the size and shooting, as well as some of the ballhandling. I think Flip is a better playmaker than Lauri was when he was at Arizona, but Lauri was a much better shooter. Thanks for watching!
Me too…. The college version. But the potential is there. Classic racism saying he’s not that athleticic. For 7 feet tall, he’s pretty frickin athletic. Very poor scouting report. For example Jonathon Isaac was less athletic than flip, but I recall his scouting report citing how athletic he was lol. Wendell Carter Jr. and Marvin Bagley we’re “so” athletic. You got your black and white glasses on bro.
This kid needs to get into the weight room. Must get stronger in the upper body.
Reminder: he’s doing this against future accountants, pediatricians and scientists. He’s going to have to successfully do it against the best athletes on the planet in the NBA. The difference between the NBA and the NCAA is night and day. This is why so many high draft picks turn out to be average players to busts.
Not sure he cracks the Top 20.
Hip surgery is a concern. Might drop him to the lower 1st or 2nd round.
Hey selling Sabonis his floor Zack Collins
Thanks for watching! Both Collins and Flip are strong rebounders, but I think their games are a bit different. Collins also had a smaller role at Gonzaga in all fairness.
Collins was more assertive at the rim at the rim on both ends and probably more physical. Protecting the rim came a lot more naturally to him. Filipowski doesn't really have to do that at Duke since Dereck Lively is there, but imo he's better guarding outside-in than down low right now.
Having said that, I think Flip is a better facilitator. Like he might be one of those guys at 7-feet that can be on both sides of the pick-and-roll from time to time, which is really valuable. I expect his shooting to pan out too
all the Zach Edey hype.
I think Kyle Filipowski is a much better NBA prospect than Zach Edey
Nikola Vucevic 2.0
Reminds me a little more of a Kelly Olynyk because I think Vuc is almost always looking to score. Flip can throw in some playmaking and ball handling.
The only reason he gets attention is because he is 7 feet and can pass. He can't use his height and his passing translate to NBA, if he doesn't learn to shoot. I would pass on this guy to be honest.
I think he'll be able to shoot in the long term and I also think he's underrated as an athlete and a defender. This comes in addition to his passing and some ballhandling. Flip reminds me of Mo Wagner or Kelly Olynyk, and both guys have had pretty good NBA careers.
@@FloorandCeiling The thing is Olynk is a role player with a limited ceiling. People treat this guy as if he'll be modern Hedo Turkoglu or better. I'm not saying he'll be %100 bust, just overhyped. This guy worth late 1st or early 2nd round pick.
Low budget Franz Wagner
Franz was a much more skilled (and perimeter-based) ballhandler and passer. Thanks for watching!
@@FloorandCeiling yeah, Kyle is the low budget version. But i see a good ceiling. If his shot fall better, he will be at least starter level.
Big news that Kyle Filipowski is staying at Duke for his sophomore season. I had him as a potential top 20 pick for this year, but I think he shoots up into the top 10 conversation for 2024. Maybe even higher if his three-point shooting really improves.
Surprisingly news, I was convinced he would be in the 2023 draft.
