I got lucky, mine was already flashing green, just wouldn't pull up the management page at all. Didn't have to short the IC. Was able to reflash using this method. Good job.
amazing! this video was of huge help after i closed the contacts with a screwdriver like u showed i was able to get the network interface of the router going, but alas tftpd64 did not work at all, i tried 3 times, ended up using nmrpflash specifying manually the ip and mac and it did work
just for clarification: it WAS my last resort, i tried everything, the router's network interface was simply not working, it did not connect and i couldn't even ping it let alone open the menu
Thank you for your kind words! I am very happy this worked for you as well! It is a little tricky to do and you need patience and some tech skills but you did it! 😀
Thank you Guy, i got the same wndr3400v2, which i killed while fw flash, but not sure for the way to update via putty. Now after i saw your Vid and recognize the blinking LED at my router, it was tight and easy doing a restore of my ddrwrt without any problems ! Hope my english isn't too much bad =D
I would not buy a high gain external antenna. You are wasting money. Those things don’t make much of a difference at all. i don’t think this router supports it and but it does work very very well on 2.4G. Remember this is a wifi4 released in 2009 We are are at wifi6. I would encourage you to go to Walmart and buy a cheap $60 dollar wifi 6 router. On a 100MB ISP plan you will get 112MB on a wifi 6 router. On a wifi 4 like this one you would get like 60MB tops. Do not buy a high gain external antenna. Watch thiojoe’s video on this. What you could do is buy a wifi6 router and set this one up as an access point.
i have the wndr3400v2, i flashed the openwrt but the wifi did not work, i was going to use a modded ddwrt firmware that works with version 2, but when i flashed it with the OG firmware, it bricked, however i did not had to resort to opening the router, the bricked state automatically gave me ttl=100 so i use the tftp and i was able to revive the router, now i was able to flash the ddwrt mod firmware and IT IS WORKING LIKE DANG!!!
Hi Octavio, I have this router; but want to update the firmware. You said you got DDWRT working. Interesting, yeah Tomato claims to make it work. Do you have an FTP server, on the DDWRT Firmware. Is it worth it, compared to the old, original firmware. I saw that link to the new DDWRT (moded). I want to compare the 2 firmwares, to see which one might be better, or have the features that I would be interested in. It is refreshing, to hear that the moded version of DDWRT works, because there is still no official version. Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks!
Maybe the cable is not connected properly (sometimes this is the problem) or you disabled the network adapter by accident or have the wrong one enabled. On windows 10, Go to setting and search for "Change adapter options" to check what is enabled and change it to the "Ethernet" controller
Hi It's most likely that the pins are bent maybe because the ethernet cable was pushed too hard so they are not making contact. You could try pulling them out very carefully with tweezers or a paper clip to get good contact. If nothing works, it is a waste of time to fix it so its best to buy the newer AX Wifi6 routers which are better and faster even if you don't have Wifi6. This router is kinda old (November 2016) so that is why I decided to fix it the way I did in this video because I was going to buy a newer one anyways.
this is no more working. it didnt work for my netgear r7000....i tried more than 1 month, nothing works. Stay away from netgear people. it is no good router
Hi, sorry to hear that. Please remember this video is strictly only for the model listed. It has worked for some people. I don't know anything about the r7000 model.
Question: you have header pins why didn't you flash through cfe? it would have been much safer to do. Short pinning the flash chip is one of the worst things to resort to doing, as this will permently destroy the chip and instead of throwing it away, the router should be recycle properly there are hazardious matierials and parts on the pcb. I had to thumbs down your vid, it promotes a very risky technique that is dangerous even though this router is quit old it is still used. The problem is not firmware related it is the cfe got corrupt and the only way to undo this is to flash through the cfe.
Because for CFE you have to buy pins and it doesn't always work, it more complicated to find code and your wasting money and time. Besides this is an old router which is why I short circuited it. I didn't really care about it and i mentioned that in the video. I also said this was a last resort method before throwing it away and buying a new and way better one. And to do this at your own risk. It's worked for me and for some other people as you will see on comments.
@@rodaraguz You have the header pin already in place on the router shown in the video? Yes it does work flashing through the cfe, what commands did you use? That is not enough to justify bad advice.

Got one of these exact models from eBay very economically - and the last resort ended up working! Thank you.
Happy to help you! 😀😊

Thanks! I'm happy it helped!!! : )
Hey there my dude, thanks for this Vid. BTW, can one add a high gain external antenna to this router?

what are you showing us? is the video clear to you?
When I ping all I get is host unreachable any idea what I can do?

I have mine that kept blinking so I followed this step.
But now it is still blinking even after I waited 30mins after the flash
Hi, check that your TTLs = 100. Also double check that the firmware is loaded on the TFTP. For some reason it likes to change to something else.
Hello sir my n600 main net cable port is not working

你好,我也使用这款路由器。
Tomato and DDWRT have a firmware open source for this router, but the DDWRT version is a (moded) version that is not officially supported.
