Hi! I'm glad to see everyone enjoying this and appreciating the work of these guys. I uploaded the album because it's one of my greatest inspirations. I'm also a musician (drummer) and want to share with you my band. It's called La Mar, we play post-rock / post-metal and we've released two albums so far. You can listen our second album, released three months ago, at www.la-mar.bandcamp.com. Hope you guys enjoy it!

I am sitting in a coffee shop in nashville Tennessee, and I am hearing this album for the first time. I don’t know how to articulate this correctly, but I feel so lucky to still be able to stumble along something like this in my life where my entire existence is swept from under my feet instantly. I grew up with an intuitive sense for underground, independent music - i would walk to the local independent record shop (Bionic Records, Huntington Beach, CA) and peruse the aisles and I would wait for something that caught my eye. Then if it gave me that certain feeling, i would buy it. I was NEVER wrong. I never bought a dud, not once - and this EP was one such purchase.
The cover reminded me of the artistic style of my fav band at the time, ISIS.
I had this CD playing in my car at all times as long as there wss no one else with me. I didn't share this with others, because they wouldn't understand it - but I did.
I lost track of it soon after CDs were phased out, but i am so glad to have found it here. So many years attempting to describe the beautiful crushing artistic masterpiece that is Sun For Miles to people i now know might just like this.
Nostalgia in full force right now.

It scares me that an album this good can all but disappear. For those who are curious, the band was a duo. The vocalist/guitarist became the vocalist of The End for their first album or two (another sad loss in the metal world; their album Elementary is so good). The drummer has been in Circle Takes the Square for several years now.

Tyler the singer (Semrick-Palmateer is his last name) was in The End from 2000 until maybe 2002, and only participated in their debut album. then he left to start mare in 2003-ish.

Mare remains one of the enigmatic entries in the Hydra Head roster
of artists, as this eponymous EP represents the band's one and only
recording. This Canadian trio consisted of vocalist / guitarist Tyler
Semrick-Palmateer, Rob Shortil on bass, and drummer Caleb Collins.
The band had a short run from 2004 to 2007, emerging out of
    Toronto's death / tech-metal community with Semrick-Palmateer
had cut his teeth on vocals in The End. On the five songs of Mare, the
band assembled a menacing composite of styles and forms --
sludge-metal, math-rock, classic prog idioms, and the diaphonic
    harmonies from Bulgarian chorals.
Film and musical theatre also work into chimera of influences with
the band mentioning that both 2001: A Space Odyssey and Jesus
Christ Superstar had been in heavy rotation during the writing and
production of the album. Sonically, Mare concentrates on monolith
of trudging rhythms and densely packed riffs squeezed through
numerous time signature changes and sudden shifts in velocity.
Semrick-Palmateer's vocals are a unique feature to Mare's aesthetic,
throat-scraping with bellowing howls and harrowing screams before
gliding into the form of a silver-tongued crooner such Jeff Buckley or
even Chet Baker. "They Sent You" and "Tropics" situates the beatific
facet of the vocals in concert with gilded arrangement for French
horn before the trio locks into a formidable post-hardcore groove of
    dissonance and crushed chord progressions.

13 years after being fortunate to see em live, this album is just as incredible as the first time i heard it...Anyone know what (if anything) they are doing, musically, these days?

I bought the original demo CD-R (black & gray artwork) in college, circa 2004-2006 sometime. i was a huge fan of The End at the time, and when I found out the original vocalist who did Transfer Trachea Reverberations From Point: False Omniscient was in a new band called Mare, I found their material and was just blown away. So different from The End and yet completely amazing in a different way. I will never part with that CD-R!

      lyrics if interested:
      ANISETTE
      saved by last light
      when we lived
all i know is last night
we almost lost you for good
let's hear what she has to say
      it's an intricate fold
      it's the cure
      for us trying to speak
      and it works
      look at the overcast people
they look at their overcast sons
      THEY SENT YOU
      join hands and sing
      sing, sing, sing
when their horns are too loud
      the day they'll send more
      to drown me out
      TROPICS
      you had it coming
and i think you know why
      your face lights up
      but so do hers
watered drinks are fine for my girl
and i never sleep beside my girl
      i'll fall for her again
      to sit through
      countless minutes of countless cynics
i sure hope that they've got it right
      PALACES
i answer to fists full of armed fingers
      waiting for command
sons of sons who answer one
afraid to lead an open hand
      they've found a flaw
      they'll find a hundred more
you see you're all a mistake
but all in all you'll save face
so please don't point your finger
when this is where you're meant to be
cause this is where you are
      get out of bed
      we need you
      now
so aren't you glad you know now?
no, not since we found out
do you know what this means now?
we are swimming on our backs
      too tired to explain ourselves
      crying arches spines
      arms reaching for home
      she won't drop us
      SUN FOR MILES
      look down
      tens upon tens
won't forget your name for a while
      tens upon tens
will cry themselves to sleep for a while
      be quiet for a second
i hope to see you again
      i hope
