I climbed over that fence and placed a rose plant on Jim's grave on 10/9/13 even though I'm 62 with two bad hips and had a bone spur in my left heel. Being there was unbelievably moving as a lifelong Doors fan. Pere Lachaise is a beautiful and surprisingly uncreepy cemetery. There's beautiful statues and gardens everywhere, cobblestone paths lined with ancient chestnut trees. You can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance at the crest of a hill near George Bizet's grave (not from Jim's grave unfortunately). Jim's grave is a bit sad, neglected. It's tucked behind a large crypt. Fans do come by in a steady stream daily and leave flowers, notes, votive candles. It began to rain as we stood there, very moving. I sensed his presence there, I really did. RIP, Jim. you were one of the Truly Great.
tiamia1134 Somehow someway I must pay my respects to Jim. I'm only 38. I purchased "Strange Days" in the summer of 1993. I've been trying to break through ever since.

Rest in peace Jame Douglas Morrison, surrounded by poets, writers and artists. He belongs to that cementery. He was a poet, philosopher, visionary and a genius.
I was in the audience in Frankfurt Germany, 1969 (?) I'd never seen anything like the Doors. Morrison had an electric, magnetic presence, they all shared it, but Jim was a fountainhead. The music swirled through the auditorium like gods arriving on thunderclouds, prophesy and Dionysius. 45 years later, I remember that night.
+Sharon George I guess it really was more about shamanism than strictly music...and that explains why they didn't produce anything noticeable after Jim departed
I saw them twice and I know exactly what you mean. Jim had amazing charisma, intelligence and showmanship - the greatest front man ever (Jagger is the only one who comes close). Jim made sure the audience left mesmerized. Ray and Jim committed themselves that momentous afternoon on Venice Beach to creating a rock group like no other - and they succeeded. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and The Doors were one of a kind. There will never be another group like them. No other group came close then and, 50 years later, none has come close since. The Doors are in a uniquely elevated class all their own. RIP Jim and Ray knowing that your legendary genius lives on.
RIP Jim and Ray. You both changed music and our lives. This video is proof that death will never stop the Doors. They will be around forever. The proof of that fact is when you listen and watch this. People crying at the sight of the Doors together again, even decades after Jim left us.

Their music was so unique and sounds just as great today as it did when I saw them in the late 60's. These were TRUE artists, the real deal. Ray and Jim were highly intelligent, well read intellectuals (Rimbaud, Nietzsche, Dostoevsky, Kafka to name just a few). Jim's favorite pastime was reading. He devoured books - good books. So glad that i was being alone when i came to visit Jim's grave few years ago, too much people there, even if i would have loved to see Ray and Robby but still, it was more peaceful and quiet when i was there, being alone in this beautiful cemetery, with all these famous writers/poets that Jim loved so much was kind of intense, while relaxing at the same time, could feel something special, can't explain what, plus i was lucky to have an amazing sun that day, that was perfect and that'll stay a great memory...
The Doors were one of the few bands where each band member is absolutely indispensable.Without any one individual it doesn’t work. Most bands could go on after losing a guitarist, drummer or bassist and still be “The Rolling Stones” or “Pink Floyd”. With the Doors, everyone was essential for what they brought to the sound, the musical style, the songwriting, and the look.
I've never known or seen this but I've listened to many Manzerik interviews and felt his ability to light up a room just with his charisma and zest for life, even he being gone casts a long shadow on those who remain, light went out in the World but on goes Light My Fire, eternally!
so the first thing I did straight away after arriving to Paris, was visiting Jim Morrison's grave at Père Lachaise. The atmosphere in that place it's unique... indescribable, amazing.
I went with my daughter in 2013 and had a bone spur on my left heel, but rolled my 62 year old self over the low metal fence and put a rose plant on his grave and said a few words - and at that very moment, the fog turned to rain. You know, Jim was a big practical joker. My daughter couldn't believe it because I had told her that morning before we left our apt. in Montmartre that I "hoped it rained when we visited Jim." We had been at Pere Lachaise walking in a thick fog for nearly 3 hours by the time we got to Jim's grave. We both felt his energy there and a plain-clothed guard overheard us and said they see his spirit all the time.
Phoebe Dowling If you're ever in Paris, stop by Pere Lachaise and say "Hi" to Jim. It is the most beautiful cemetery I have ever seen and some day my ashes will be strewn there. It is the PERFECT resting place for Jim's restless soul. His spirit is palpable.
it's 2013 and I for some reason am playing all of the The DOOR's music and loving it even more .. am uncovering and watching Jim's interviews.. and watching this video has brought sadness in my heart .. what he had was fearlessness .. he blazed an unmarked trail .. I feel a kindred spirit to his .. the same never tamed spirit and somewhere never one of the clan .. so seeing him in his videos gives my spirit a kind of relief .. I like to say I'm his little sister *
He was one of a kind. His father finally realized his son's talent too late and eventually flew to Paris with Jim's mother to pay homage to him. The Greek epitaph they had carved on a new headstone for Jim's grave essentially says that Jim followed his own spirit. He had that poet's soul, he was a depressive and drank himself to death. He died far too young.
I was at the roller-skating rink that night in 1971 when JM passed. I remember learning about his death from a girl who came into the skating rink and she was crying and upset. I was 12 and she was probably around the same age. Just one of those deaths that you remember where you were when you heard about it.
As much as i would have wanted one of their autographs,no way would i have asked DIRECTLY behind Jim"s headstone!! (or even ANYwhere in the cemetery, for that matter) This is so sad.I am glad it just ended as i finish this comment.Peace.RIP Jim and Ray.
Sad to think these were Ray's last days, he was a great and humble man, probably the most humble rock star and certainly one of the most well spoken, educated men in music. But truly humble! RIP Ray and Jim, God bless.
I made the pilgrimage in 2016 on a 18 hour layover to Paris . Was my first stop . Rest in Power Jim and Ray. Thank you for the inspiration . I remember listening to The End when I was 16 years old and it’s what made me decide to go West. The west is the best , get here and we’ll do the rest .
So agree with you! They were there to pay respects, take some photos and there she is sneaking up behind. I was so glad that Ray ignored her not once but twice. You could tell by Robbie face that he felt awkward.
Saw Ray and Michael McClure in Portsmouth NH on April 24th, 2010. Amazing show from the front row center. Just an awe inspiring performance. I feel fortunate to have seen and spoken to them at the book signing after the show. Take care Michael and Ray and thankyou.
These two guys were literally on Jim's doorstep indeed...probably were pleading Jim to be their ferryman. Ray Manzarek was as important as Morrison for that unique Doors sound. And for spotting Jim's charisma.
I feel bad for Ray and Robbie. The media and fans made it difficult to visit their friend "Mojo Risin" Jim Morrison. Something I will add to my bucket list. Visit the all time great rock legend Jim Morrison 🎸 🎶
Well I'm pretty sure that was publicly announced somehow. It was after all the 40th anniversary of Jim's death so you'd have to expect people to be there especially knowing that those two were coming.
I was at Jim’s grave in April 1982. Ate acid, smoked weed and partied with at least 100 people from around the world. One of the coolest days of my life.
Sadly, Ray passed away less than 2 years later in neighbouring Germany, where he was taken to get special treatment for his Bile Duct Cancer. He died from complications of this disease.
I went there in 2012. Also saw his apartment at l7 Rue Beautreillis and basically walked in Jims footsteps to his favorite park in the area, pubs and sitting along the Siene. Loved every minute.
Jim's family should have his remains brought back to the Venice California area. That's where he had his inspiration , start & success. How many of us have the time & money to go to Paris, The Doors are and always will be from America.
No, he WANTED to be buried at Pere Lachaise. He told his friend Alain Ronay when they were standing in front of Oscar Wilde's grave there that "THIS" was where he wanted to be buried. All his favorite writers - Oscar Wilde was one of them - are buried there. Jim was an intellectual and prolific writer - Pere Lachaise is the perfect and most fitting place for him. He hated the phoniness of L.A. That's why he was so pissed off at Ray and Robbie for selling out The Doors for some dippy car commercial. Densmore was the only one who understood this - and he did NOT sell out. Props to him! At his heart, Jim Morrison was an artist.
Tia Mia he said, she said, they said, we said, I said , you said....unless it was specifically WRITTEN in his will , people can say whatever they want . Doesn't mean its a fact or truth. Some people who do serious drugs ( believe it or not) are not in their right mind and might say or do anything irrational. ( like kill themselves) Plus, do you think a dead person would really get upset where he is buried ? lol They're dead. And what if Jim is now saying ; CRAP ! I hate being buried in a city full of frogs !
Quinton, OMG man. "dead person...get upset where he is buried"..."city full of frogs"...Where do you come up with this stuff? What are you smoking? Alain Ronay, who was a very close friend of Jim's and who Jim spent his last day on earth with quoted what Jim told him as they stood in front of Oscar Wilde's grave. Jim said "Alain, this place is so f-ing beautiful. THIS is where I want to be buried! Please make sure I am buried here." He wasn't dead, knucklehead, but he did die a month or so later - and Alain kept his promise. Why are you name-calling Parisians? Paris is the most beautiful city on earth and Pere Lachaise is a very beautiful, elegant and historic cemetery - the most famous one in France. Thousands of famous artists, writers, statesmen, musicians, dancers, actors/actresses and Great Thinkers are buried there. The City of Paris is VERY discriminating about who can be buried there. Trust me, they'd never let you in. However, some day my ashes will be scattered there. Can't think of a more beautiful place to spend eternity. Vive la France!
Tia Mia maybe they both were tripping and two strangers walked by saying; "wow man. this place is really beautiful. this is where I want to be buried." So, if it's NOT WRITTEN DOWN FOR THE RECORD, ANYONE CAN SAY ANYTHING THEY LIKE . you have a fragile eggshell mind !
I visited his grave in 1985, I was 21 yrs old traveling around Europe. He was buried before his parents an sister could get to him I hear. R.I.P Jimmy !!
You know Alan, we were the few lucky ones who saw this rare event. When Ray was still alive.. I dunno weather he visited Jim's grave ever since this occasion.. to me this was one of those "high points" of my life.. and not just because we witnessed Ray and Robbie visiting the man's grave.. but all the great memories, and the people we met there too... Thank You Alan.
Strangely, my favourite memory of Paris was walking around the cemetery on my own, waiting for my girlfriend to come out of work. My grandmother had recently passed and it seemed like a natural place to visit. I happened upon the graves of Oscar Wilde, Chopin and Jim. A boring afternoon transformed by the greatness of others.
Só quem é fã sabe o poder dessas imagens. Me deu um misto de sentimentos, ver esses caras. É de arrepiar! Nossa... como o mundo é louco. I love guys, I love the Doors, , I love Jim. Thank you!
I agree with you Mary, was this a sincere visit to an old friend, or was it some kind of publicity stunt to attract attention to themselves four decades after? Anyway, Jim is gone, now so is Ray, may God have them both under his mantle where they can finally rest forever. I had the pleasure of meeting both Ray and Robbie when I was working for Virgin Records in L.A. and I must say it will always be one of the highlights of my life. Merry Xmas to all you rockers and music/poetry loving people out there everywhere. Time//Peace, NeoGeo//Guadalajara Mexico XXX.
Two great guys from a great band honoring he memory of their friend and bandmate Jim Morrison. I wish Jim could have grown old with these fine men and I miss him very much as an entertainer....RIP Jim
Wow, they really pimped that graveside up for the occasion. It's a far cry from the one my pal and I visited way back in '77 ...littered with empty bottles, doobies and the likes.
Manzarek was the best rock organist ever. Nothing against Wakeman or other greats, but Manzarek understood the soul of rock roll and the time. Light My Fire was his perfect canvas, and even as he changed it from performance to performance, it was the ultimate bhava of its genre. I never met you , but part of me just departed. We all have the music.

I bought tickets for the Doors in 1966 but mistakenly showed up a week late! Ugh. Later saw Robby Krieger and his son live in Durango Colorado. A real treat. I think the ghost of Jim was there that night.
He had a great sense of humor. I think he was more than likely laughing his ass off at that lady crying and carrying on like that. Geez, give it a rest, lady!
You don't know that, you fucking peasant!!! You know NOTHING about how Jim would've reacted. He threw parties all the time. Why would he hate just another party???

There was no fence when I was there in 95.
It's a shame they have to have the fence, I guess it's to prevent vandalism to the crypts around him. I heard they have a guard there now too.

nostre vite !!!!!!
Ray snubbed that female security twice when she tried to get his autograph...classic....love it
I was at Jim’s grave in April 1982. Ate acid, smoked weed and partied with at least 100 people from around the world. One of the coolest days of my life.
I love how much they loved him ❤
Sadly, Ray passed away less than 2 years later in neighbouring Germany, where he was taken to get special treatment for his Bile Duct Cancer. He died from complications of this disease.
annoying crying in the background yo
for real. she didn't know em.
Catherwalling!
Really, silly emotion seeking woman as usual!!!!!
She was hysterical
I mean really. He died 50ys ago not yesterday sniffles.
yes, thank you all for inspiring a whole generation.
RIP Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek.
RIP, RAY. Thanks for your music. I'm very very fan of Doors, from Brazil.
Damn, ray was dead a yr later, DAMN,
Well, 2yrs later. But yeah, rip
Visited in July of '85....what a magical place!
Paris is magical, but Pere Lachaise has an energy and mystery all its own. Some day, far from now I hope, my ashes will be scattered there.
Rip jim grande non ti dimenticheremo mai🥰🥰🥰🎸🎸🙌🙌🇱🇷🇱🇷♥️♥️
It was a celebration of Jim Morrison, these people came to enjoy the legend that was Jim Morrison.R.I.P
"No one here gets out alive."
Perfect
Tia Mia
he said, she said, they said, we said, I said , you said....unless it was specifically WRITTEN in his will , people can say whatever they want . Doesn't mean its a fact or truth. Some people who do serious drugs ( believe it or not) are not in their right mind and might say or do anything irrational.
( like kill themselves)
Plus, do you think a dead person would really get upset where he is buried ?
lol They're dead.
I think you're tripping, dude.
I visited his grave in 1985, I was 21 yrs old traveling around Europe. He was buried before his parents an sister could get to him I hear. R.I.P Jimmy !!
loved that Ray dissed the autograph seeker. this was not an autograph event.
She was pushy and annoying. I'm surprised Krieger gave her one.
Thought it was kinda funny what Ray said though, if I heard right he said, "Well that's a bitch, but it happens."
I was there on Oct 5th, 2013.RIP Jim!!!!!
I would place a whiskey bottle next to his grave. 🤘
Why? Isn't Jim working third shift as a stocker at Wal-Mart in Kalamazoo?
@Mary Piotti probably not...but who knows???
???
@@jaylight944 He was given the nickname by the three other Doord

Frank Sinatra was buried with a fifth of Jack Daniels and a pack of Camels.
The absence of John Densmore is unsettling.
I believe that there was a falling out for a period of time, but that the three of them reconciled before Ray's death.
thanx...enjoyed watching that....so much respect for the great man...fans & band members.
Parabéns amigos de verdade......Brasil
Olha um brasileiro aqui...vc tbm é fã do The Doors?
Thank you!
Awesome video! To capture Ray & Rob visiting. Ty!
This should have been a PRIVATE moment between the band and Jim. Media FUCKS everything up!
No one cares what you think
So thought full to think 🤔 of Jim after all those years gone by. True friends to the end and beyond
we miss you jim
thank you for these pictures.
God bless Ray Manzarek, who was mostly what the Doors were all about.
Indeed
A true hippie
Ray Was Truly A Good Friend To Jim And Robbie Too.
Time//Peace,
NeoGeo//Guadalajara Mexico XXX.
Two great guys from a great band honoring he memory of their friend and bandmate Jim Morrison. I wish Jim could have grown old with these fine men and I miss him very much as an entertainer....RIP Jim
Jim's living on an island with Jimi Hendrix and Keith Moon.
Morrison and Hendrix were good friends
And also with Freddie Mercury and Kurt Cobain

i was there, all by myself, nobody around at all, in the dead cold winter on a very cloudy dark early afternoon in january 1990.
Wow, they really pimped that graveside up for the occasion. It's a far cry from the one my pal and I visited way back in '77 ...littered with empty bottles, doobies and the likes.
Crazy, I saw his grave in July 2011 a few weeks after this.
Rest in Peace Ray
Manzarek was the best rock organist ever. Nothing against Wakeman or other greats, but Manzarek understood the soul of rock roll and the time. Light My Fire was his perfect canvas, and even as he changed it from performance to performance, it was the ultimate bhava of its genre. I never met you , but part of me just departed. We all have the music.
So, where's John? I wonder why
Ray Manzarek died few years after this
I bought tickets for the Doors in 1966 but mistakenly showed up a week late! Ugh. Later saw Robby Krieger and his son live in Durango Colorado. A real treat. I think the ghost of Jim was there that night.
JIM WOULD HATE THIS SHIT!
That bitch crying couldn't name 4 Doors songs ...
