I use a DAC to plug my computer into a 1970s receiver that runs some nice bookshelf speakers. Sounds way better than any computer specific set.

I have one similar to the one you reviewed but mine has a remote control which I love. I added a Bluetooth transmitter so I could connect Bluetooth headphones. Pair the headphones and Bluetooth transmitter first. When they pair then connect the Bluetooth to the input 3.5mm jack on the output side of the Digital to Analog converter. Don't forget to go to the sound settings on the TV menu and select Digital out and select PCM. Also set your TV speaker to ON.

I have this. My setup is TV to this converter with SPDIF optical cable, then from the converter to my old DVD system with RCA (white+red). This old DVD player doesn't have HDMI nor SPDIF optical unfortunately. TV is then set to SPDIF on the setting and it works. BUT I can't get 5.1 to work with the TV, it basically works as a 2.1 system - no sound from the center nor from the two surround speakers. Just the front right, front left and sub work. I can get all 5 speakers to work and play the same sound through the DVD player setting (by setting it to MATRIX), but I would like to have a 5.1 system working as it should with the TV, while watching movies or playing the PS5. Does this converter really works with 5.1? I doubt it. It's probably due to the rca cables but why in the world would they advertise this as 5.1 compatible and even have it written on the outter "shell"?

Can I use the RCA + headphone OUT at the same time with the prozor?

You don’t talk about the quality of the audio out of the dac, only the quality of the build.
So how is the audio quality?

I have this dac with dolby and dts support. It's pretty decent for this price. I hear small pop at certain frequencies on prime. for hotstar not much. Apart from that issue, its good and transform your home to cinema hall. dont expect audiophile quality. budget friendly dac.

@@rv6569do you ever tried the base version of Prozor? If so, it has any difference in sound quality?

Yes. This device has its own power supply, so I see no reason my not.

Ok, I bought one. But it is only for use with PC, Mac. I was using it on a high-powered home stereo and it suddenly stopped working. As much as I tried to revive it, the power light would not come on. So, for low power, it's fine, for high power stereo equipment, not good. Does it sound different? Yes. Durability, well, you get what you paid for. Do not substitute the power supply with some other, "might work" power supply. The company should supply the correct power supply.

For two Channel stereo these cheapo's are only any good if the on-board dac chip is better than the one in your cd player. I bought one of these suspecting that the dac chip would be worse than the chip in my Marantz cd player. It was as I'd
thought, hopeless by comparison, so although it was cheap, the board was very nicely soldered, and would surely be better than the dac chip in a laptop. So it could be useful in that regard.
It ended up in the bin because I'm only interested in 2 channel stereo and cd's. No Bluetooth, no Spotify, streamed music or any of that stuff. It was just an experiment...

I've not opened this up (Yet) What DAC chip is in it? And are you salvaging anything from it?

@@dax79reviews G'Day Dax. I can't remember the chip that was in it, although I did run the printed numbers on Google. It was just some cheap nondescript chip, although as I said, the board seemed rather better put together than the price would suggest. I have a Marantz CD6004 which is getting on a bit now. It has the Cirrus Logic CS4398 chip. A good but ageing chip. I considered upgrading to a better spec Marantz, but the high spec models still use the same chip, so I didn't see any advantage in trading up. It's a 10 dollar chip after all, if that much...
That was when I got onto the separate DAC idea, and bought this cheapy to see if there was any improvement, though not expecting any. It was awful: harsh, bright, tinny, missing info. Nothing to recommend it at all. I then tried a TDA1543 Philips chip. As old as time, this budget chip is rapidly finding renewed interest recently and I can see, or hear why. I loved the sound. Sadly it only worked for a day but I was hooked, so I've ordered a more expensive DAC carrying this chip.
It's the old R2R technology first devised by Philips in the early 80's. Expensive and difficult to make, so it fell out of favour when manufacturers moved on to Delta/Sigma. Cheaper and easier to build but they are generally accused of having a bright metallic glare/sheen. Something to do with the way the Delta/Sigma architecture has to deconstruct the digital signal, fool around with it a LOT and then reconstruct an analogue output. The old R2R chips of yesteryear are supposed to be more analogue sounding, and they're apparently of simple architecture but difficult to get right. I'm a complete novice at these things having only just started learning about them. The ancient R2R chips, some people swear by them, some swear at them. Me, I loved the raw sound, full of info, and a lot more interesting compared with the Marantz on-board chip, the CS4398. Mind you I've been listening to this Marantz for over 10 years and I guess you get used to the sound...
To answer your query, no, there was nothing to keep. I could have just chucked it in a drawer but my wife of 52 long-suffering years is fed up of all the tat I hang on to... .
Remember though, I'm only interested in CD's so if you need something for PC or music streaming, one of these DAC's will likely have a better chip in it than your PC. phone, or laptop. Pull the top off, Dax, and take a peep. Cheers from sunny Australia...
