I remember complaining that the evil within was too easy. I think having played so much resident evil 5 and 6, i got accustomed to the "stun into melee" gameplay loop, and so once i found out that you could one shot most enemies if you stunned them with the crossbow, it made the game way easier than it seemed it was meant to be. just round up enemies into one place, flash arrow them, and one shot, if you do it right, you can set them all on fire with the same match too.
I didn't really think it was that difficult either, especially when compared to a lot of other similar survival horror games. They showed Laura, who is a frustrating boss, but The Keeper? With the safe head? He literally just slowly follows you around.
In Scorn you can actually avoid most combat altogether by just observing and avoiding the wildlife, it's there to do it's own stuff it's not interested in you unless you barge in with a weapon.
Honorable mention: Alien Dark Descent. Your characters will literally get traumas, phobias, and mental illness while navigating a punishingly brutal unexplored environment

I don't agree with The Evil Within. Except for Chapter 10, which I found exceptionally difficult due to two punishing boss fights, I found the difficulty to be near perfect. It kept me feeling tense but rarely felt frustrating. Your poor aim is only an issue early on as later you upgrade your weapons and skills. I definitely don't agree that the stealth was boring. I loved the stealth. The use of traps, gadgets, environment manipulation, silent takedowns, and unique environments, made for a lot of very rewarding strategy and silent predator tactics. Diverse environments, diverse enemies that required unique tactics, a range of upgradeable weapons and gadgets, all made for a very fun and atmospheric gaming experience. The Evil Within is one of my favourite games.
Horror games are my absolute favorite. Difficult games are also my cup of tea because i love a challenge. Definitely adding a few of these to my list to play😁😁. Thanks gameranx 😁😁
15:20 The puzzles in Siren is also damn hard, if you don't know what you're doing you'll just end up doing the same scenarios of each characters and get stuck in a loop in Day 1, basically for each run you must find new key items and files in order to unlock the Day 2 and so on
One thing that ended up being a problem for people who played it long after it came out was the manual had a bunch of really useful hints for the harder puzzles, but a lot of people didn’t know this since this is something you’d see in an old Sierra adventure game.
Yes, you do. I went into the game with 0 expectations; I hadn't done any research on it at all. I actually enjoyed the game. Wasn't that hard to get used to it once I started playing it. I remember not dying that much during my first playthrough despite not being that good at the game.
Scorn is not a hard game. Yes the puzzles and wandering around the map can be difficult at times, but it is not a difficult game at all. Almost every creature you see in the game, you can literally leave alone and they will be on their merry way. The only reason you should ever get into a fight is either A: To get past an annoying entity that will attack you no matter what, which in this case there are less than maybe 5 - 8 through out the game, or B: It's the cyborg. Don't believe me, play through the game again, but this time keep your distance and don't engage the creatures. Remember this, "If you are fighting a creature in this world, it is because you messed up and got in the way or weren't patient enough." Interesting game though.

With Cry of Fear one thing that I think really adds to the challenge that you didn't mention is that when you reload your gun with a new clip, you LOSE whatever was in the current clip.
I heard a lot good things about The Evil Within, wanted to finish it but unfortunately the wobbling camera effect prevented me to play it because it gave me really bad nausea, and there is no option to disable it as well..
Scorn isn't hard. People just don't realize that you're not meant to fight 90% of the enemies. You just get out of their line of sight. They walk a specific, usually very short path, before exiting the area through gaps in the wall. And they never come back. Also, if you are going to fight the enemies, you need to hit their weak points. Most of them can be killed instantly. There is a logic to what their weak spots are.
I see an image from Scorn, I click. It's that simple. That game doesn't get the recognition it deserves because it's so misunderstood. People go into the game with expectations of X instead of an open mind. IT'S NOT AN FPS! Or rather, not unless you want it to be...

I wish they made a sequel... however I needed mods that added more health station and no cool down on the melee weapon because I already suck at hard games and I kept getting two-shoted by the naked chickens. 😭 But yeah, it's definitively part of the deeper story. Omg, THE EVIL WITHIN, bro ... I die like 8 times before the title screen came up 😬 and I've been a game for just as long as you falcon ... I love the game, but man, that was an eye-opener
To anyone that hasn't played Darkwood. Please do yourself a favor and play it because you're doing yourself a disservice by not. I remember putting it off after seeing screenshots and some short clips because it didn't look or seem like my style but I ended up buying it after seeing it on sale one night and I was so mad at myself for not getting it sooner.. It's easily one of the most tense and immersive horror experiences I've ever had and the art and sound design is really something else.
No fear and hunger on this list makes me sad. Edit, nevermind, bonus has it, though difficulty's a "bit" overstated here. For those who haven't played it, the game's 95% knowledge based. The more of it you know, the easier it gets, to the point where there's a special ending for soloing the game while killing literally everything on the hardest difficulty for one of the characters. In a game where you can't level up your stats at all beyond gear and new spells. Knowledge of enemy attack patterns and capabilities will go farther than any amount of gear and abilities, so the more you play, the easier it gets, even if you do die constantly at the beginning.
I tried it but I got overwhelmed when my character died and keeps crawling on the floor, but I dropped it and play something else, though I wanna finish it, my question is: do his limbs get restored and become normal again or when you die that's it?
@@bitsuuuuuu you can get them back *once* in the playthrough, But it will cost you something very dear that will also lock you out of at least one ending afaik
The Callisto Protocol was super easy because of it unique controls. The Dodge mechanic made it almost impossible to ever get hit. Very easy to use and intuitive.
The original dead rising is really difficult for me I’m not sure why it took so long for some games to be able to aim and move the game is instantly harder when you get a gun because you can’t move while aiming some of those boss fights are hard because they have a gun and once you stick your head out they will shoot you so you can’t really use a melee weapon but you can’t stay behind cover to get a shot off
We need a top 20 games you need to play before you die ranked by the Gameranx team voiced by you please. Your voice. Rockstar. Thank you always Falcon.
I was bored silly with Visage. The insanely slow movement was ridiculous. By the time I'd walked from the top of a staircase to the bottom, I was yawning. There's no indication as to what order is best when working through the chapters and I started with the Rekkan chapter, which I've since understood is one of the worst, but I had no desire to go back and start again. When the enemy turns up you just slow-walk in the opposite direction til he disappears. Unless there's an invisible wall or three-inch high object to impede your progress. And the "sanity meter" is such BS. I'm not frightened but apparently my player character is. It was just such a fake game mechanic that I couldn't take it seriously.
Scorn stuck with me for days after I'd finished it. The weapons are terrible, because you're not meant to be strong against enemies. I honestly think it's brilliant
1st person games are difficult to navigate environmentally with the whole not being able to see whats behind you or having a good peripheral vision view.. To each their own though 🤷🏾♂️
Hey Jake, I really love your content and appreciate the time you spend to make it for us. Just wanted you to feel appreciated for your work bro! Keep it up!
0:37 the combat in scorn is completely optional that is why it's "bad"! You can literally hide or run away when you see an enemy and they will just go about their day. Scorn is an experiences that i will never forget.
I have ptsd from pathologic , the ps4 version is one of the worst experiences i ever had. DO NOT BUY THAT VERSION, runs like 5 fps at times, textures poping like gta3 on Ps2
I liked Callisto Protocol a lot. It's always kind of bummed me out that the public opinion seems to be generally negative. After you get used to it, the combat loop is really fluid and fun - the problem is that towards the end of the game, they throw a lot more enemies at you in small spaces, and the combat doesn't work as well with multiple enemies in your face. I soft-locked myself in a spot of the DLC because I had no ammo and a sliver of health and had to go back to a previous checkpoint. The main character is intolerable and doesn't ever improve, and the story isn't any sort of literary masterpiece, but I was hooked the whole time regardless - there's something to the environments and how the story is laid out that kept me wanting to see what was next.
The patch update totally fixed the game but no one wanted to give it a chance also there were some other great horror games coming out at the same time including the DEAD SPACE reboot which CALLISTO PROTOCOL is inspired by. Me i love the game and am glad i gave it a second chance after the updates.
I actually really liked it. Played it when it came out and then again maby 1.5 years later adn platinumed it. O my second run on hardest I learned to mostly just use melee until you get the assault-rifle. Then with all the cash the rest of the game is a breeze :)
Because people like to set themselves up for disappointment. People got over-hyped when they heard some of the better former devs of Dead Space, were making their own spiritual successor to Dead Space….. and instead of being logical and thinking along the lines of similar but legally distinct… they instead wanted what would basically be a Dead Space remake, if you read their complaints.
1:28 "that extends [Scorn's] desperately short runtime." What do you mean? I got 3 hours in, and never knew I had health. or combat. or enemies. Hmmm...

When Bloodborne is so old that it gets forgotten in these lists, you know that it needs a remaster!
Bloodborne is probably in the top 3 easiest soulsborne imo
No
@@DatNygma Fine. A sequel then!
@@Berry_Best It's much harder than all the games here
No fear and hunger on this list makes me sad.
Thank you Gameranx for the weekly fix all year. It's been a ride. Let's do it again 2025🎉
The Callisto Protocol was super easy because of it unique controls. The Dodge mechanic made it almost impossible to ever get hit. Very easy to use and intuitive.
I love Visage! Truly the scariest game I’ve ever played. Not perfect, but it’s perfectly horrifying.
Literally to the 1% of people who see this comment, sending virtual hugs to everyone stay safe

Yes , me so 1% people save safe❤

"WHAT?! LET'S STEP OUTSIDE, I CAN'T HEAR WHAT YOU'RE SAYING WITH ALL THIS MUSIC!!!"
I only came here to confirm Darkwood is on the top of the list. Well done.
Thanks for the list Falcon🦅
Have a grear rest this season
2025 is stacked so you'll be on the grind alot😂
Thank you for including pathologic. Been trying to beat this game for years 😅
The original dead rising is really difficult for me I’m not sure why it took so long for some games to be able to aim and move the game is instantly harder when you get a gun because you can’t move while aiming some of those boss fights are hard because they have a gun and once you stick your head out they will shoot you so you can’t really use a melee weapon but you can’t stay behind cover to get a shot off
We need a top 20 games you need to play before you die ranked by the Gameranx team voiced by you please. Your voice.
It was just such a fake game mechanic that I couldn't take it seriously.
absolutely loved Scorn. not super difficult to 100%...unless you refuse to use guides. some of the puzzles are super hard
Scorn stuck with me for days after I'd finished it. The weapons are terrible, because you're not meant to be strong against enemies. I honestly think it's brilliant
I’m probably the only person who thoroughly enjoyed The Calisto Protocol but the Dead Space remake was definitely better.
Im with ya man. I played through it several times.
Scorn wasn’t hard. You don’t even have to fight the enemies, you just avoid them and they disappear into the environment.
Alien Isolation is a masterpiece and I'm glad it's getting a sequel.
Hey Falcon, you might wanna put the music volume down so we can actually hear what you're saying. It's really way too loud.
Scorn was a bit difficult at the homonculus boss.
Have to put easy difficulty when fighting boss in callisto protocol cuz the gameplay mechanism is really hard and weird😂
I've never played any of these. Good ones!
I have ptsd from pathologic , the ps4 version is one of the worst experiences i ever had. DO NOT BUY THAT VERSION, runs like 5 fps at times, textures poping like gta3 on Ps2
Am I the only person who actually liked the Callisto Protocol?
No i loved it, played thru several times.
I love Callisto, great game!
I actually really liked it. Played it when it came out and then again maby 1.5 years later adn platinumed it. O my second run on hardest I learned to mostly just use melee until you get the assault-rifle. Then with all the cash the rest of the game is a breeze :)
For me Callisto protocol was pretty easy. All I did was use the stun baton and quick shots for the first half of the game on maximum security.
alien isolation and the evil within were my first horror games that I played as a teen. they will always be my favourites
I feel like I'm the only person who really liked Calisto Protocol lol
Dope game!
Thanks falcon best bird in the sky fr😂❤
Glad you liked the list!
There's a big distinction between difficulty and cheap and/or bad design.
Evil dead 1&2 are just hugely underrated games
scorn is hard...
...hard to stay awake while playing, that is.
I love Callisto, idc what neone says. It's not Dead Space and was never meant to be Dead Space so idk why people cry about it.
Because people like to set themselves up for disappointment.
People got over-hyped when they heard some of the better former devs of Dead Space, were making their own spiritual successor to Dead Space….. and instead of being logical and thinking along the lines of similar but legally distinct…
they instead wanted what would basically be a Dead Space remake, if you read their complaints.
I think it's crap and that's not because of Dead Space.
@jsullivan2112 Ur entitled to ur opinion bud.
@@PeanutBean67 Sure but I just wanted to make sure you're aware people think it's garbage for other reasons than Dead Space.
@@jsullivan2112 I never said that's the only reason I get it. There's a lot of reasons people love and hate different games.
Scorn wasn’t hard it was basically a walking simulator
Scorn design very much looks like the point and click old game Dark Seed, which is very cool.
1:28 "that extends [Scorn's] desperately short runtime." What do you mean? I got 3 hours in, and never knew I had health. or combat. or enemies. Hmmm...
Visage went from terrifying to frustratingly unplayable due to how difficult it is
I replayed Calisto on new game + recently and it's just much better with fully upgraded gear from the start.
Yo chicken, this is Falcon! 🤙
I platinumed calisto protocol
Hell yea man!
