Okay I'm a minimalist deep to my core so I've watched every "purge your closet" "minimalist wardrobe" video UA-cam has to offer. And this is the FIRST time someone broke down their declutter in this way. Got 20 shirts, get rid of 10. This feels so achievable and rewarding. Great tip!!

I really like this idea as well rather then just the do i use it does it fit, keep it super simple… you have ten keep only half your favorites. Easier to be more brutal when you’re on the fence to have that clear goal.

This is such a simple approach! You don't even have to do it all at once- just shirts one day, sweaters another, etc. Thank you for sharing!

One thing you did that’s a serious game changer when decluttering is not hesitating to get rid of something that still has the tag on. I always struggle to get rid of things on the basis of “I spent money on this and even if I don’t wear it I don’t want to waste the money!” But a bad purchase isn’t made any less bad by keeping it unnecessarily in your closet 😅 thanks for this, so motivating!

Your hanger trick of putting the clothes on facing backwards at the beginning of the year and seeing what we never wore at the end of the year helped a TON with closet decluttering.

    • @jtidema
      @jtidema 4 місяці тому +1

I've done that for the past year, it's very helpful. I think you can talk yourself into thinking "I've worn that somewhere" but this way you KNOW you have not worn it at all...

This is an awesome way to declutter! I’m a minimalism in my clothes. Literally have 3 T-shirt’s, 2 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of leggings and few dresses 😂. But I love it! I wear everything all the time and once it starts falling apart, I get rid of it and buy something to replace it. I love it.

I am a super minimalist with clothing too, and was watching this thinking. “I did not know anybody could possibly own that many clothes!!” Glad I’m not the only one! I love my small capsule wardrobe, and like you said if I get sick of something or it gets stained or anything else I just replace it! So nice.

So I need to put this out there. I saw Page yesterday at Costco. And I sadly missed my opportunity and chickened out. In my defense she was on the phone and seemed very focused to get out of there. So here is what I would have said if I had the courage. Thank you for your content and your vulnerability and for being so genuine. ❤

I needed this so much! I have the best intentions and then always get SO overwhelmed and feel guilty especially if it still has the tags on etc. Watching this actually makes me feel like I can FINALLY just bite the bullet and do it. Also as a mom i love how you were able to fit this in with all the other interruptions...makes it feel a lot more relatable. Thank you!!!

I was so overwhelmed with my clothes years ago. This is exactly what I did. Cut my clothes in half. Every 6 months for about 2-3 years. Now I have a much smaller pool of clothes. I’m not cutting down again until after I’m done with pregnancies and early motherhood so I have plenty of options between the body changes, but it was so helpful!! Cutting in half is a fantastic strategy!!

I'm an ADHD mom and wife of 3 who also have ADHD . At one time I didn't think minimalism would work for me but after alot of reflection (and some therapy), I realized that my part-time home and the place where I found an incredible amount of peace, was a completely bare-bones living arrangement which has/is making my decluttering journey so much easier.

I saw someone do a trick. When you hang your clothes up...put all the hangers backwards. In 6 months time. The ones that are still backwards get rid of. That means you won't be using them. Jordan, I would die to have that closet and girl you sure have the clothes. Lol I like the way you declutter. Great system. I need to try that!

Yes with ADHD and indecisiveness. I will say that AFTER I decluttered over half my wardrobe and got rid of so much stuff inside my house despite how my brain works, it makes it EASIER! Getting overwhelmed and being indecisive is EASY to do when you have SO MANY choices and things to choose from. I know everyone is different, but keep in mind that even though it’s stressful in the beginning, the end result makes life so much easier and less chaotic! Amazing video! Thanks for sharing❤

I have a smallish closet for the amount of clothes that I have. I took Marie Kondo's tip and folded my t-shirts, leggings, jean capris and put them in drawers or bins under my hanging clothes. Easy to get to, but they don't take up prime real estate on the hanging rods. The rods are reserved for my beautiful blouses and kimonos, etc, and keeps them wrinkle free. Many times all it takes is better organization and not so much throwing out good clothing or things you may end up regretting.

My son joined in right away. We ended up going to Goodwill 3x as we were filling bags because I didn't want any 2nd thoughts or regrets. So long clutter! Our closets are so much more manageable and we're no longer overloaded with choices. We did go clutterblind by getting used to looking at useless items taking up space. May need to do another pass through mine but so glad I watched your video of keeping half, getting rid of half.

Maximalist and ADHD here as well. I was surprised how many of the things you said were typical of “us” I identified with. I literally just told my husband this week that we are purging our closet and I think this #-based approach might def work for me! Wish me luck. 😬😄

I love your videos!! I enjoy decluttering videos!! I too have been on a journey decluttering my mountain of papers and tons of clothing. Took me awhile since I work full time but I'm getting it done!!! I've gotten rid of some many of my clothing that now the clothes that I kept fit in my small closet!! All my clothing is now organized and I have space in my closet. I only buy clothes if I need something. I also conquered my mountain of papers. That's way way down too.
You did a great job!!! You decluttered so many clothes in such a short amount of time.

Thanks for sharing. My mom did the same thing to her bedroom closet and gave 3 large bags to near by group homes in the next state. Group homes need clothes more then the "Goodwill" does so that's what she did. Good way to donate.

Purging the closet... that had to have felt SOOOOOOO good in the end!!! I actually like your concept of getting rid of half of each clothing item, very smart. For the extra hangers, I would put them in the old laundry room so that it would get rid of the temptation of getting new clothes all the time. I wonder what would happen if you try this purging method on the kids' closets, or even Bubba's closet? Keep it up!!!

I've cleaned out my closet before with the Marie Kondo method, but never got rid of the amount that I actually want to. I tend to hold on to things 'just in case'. This is actually a super smart way, to just get rid of half of it! Another way that I have heard of, that is apparently really helpful, is to grab the clothes out of your closet that you 1000% absolutely LOVE and wouldn't give away for the world. That way you can look at the things you love less and (apparently/hopefully) realize you don't actually want and/or need it. Gonna try that and your method soon. Loved the video!

Hi Jordan - Great plan and execution. I'm a maximalist living in a home for 30 years. I don't want to leave a mess for whoever outlives me. I'm going to start next week and see how it goes. I can't find a free hanger or get anything else in my areas. Tee Hee. Thanks for sharing and have a great trip. Love PegEgg

Good job. I realize that I need to figure out what colors look good on me and then do the same thing to my closet. For a period of time I bought what was easily available instead of figuring out if I looked good in it.

This is so refreshing! Just went through my horde of sweaters and purged half! Then did scarves today. Is this what it feels like to have everything fit in one place?! 😅

I have adhd and your little explanation there in front of your closet- soooo right on. I feel the same overwhelm and have to structure everything in order to stay somewhat organized. I dig into my closet sometimes and look around and suddenly im surrounded by a HUGE mess. But how? I was trying to organize! Lol
