    2019 we did the Sea & Land Cruise. Vancouver to Whittier Ak and then took the train to Mt McKinley Lodge 2 nights and then 1 night at Princess Wilderness Lodge and then 1 night at Captain Hooks in Anchorage. (Princess handles your luggage from place to place) (Hotel is really nice and a great place to stay). We did so many excursions from the ship and every one was great. No bad excursions. Then on land we Zip Lined over water falls and rapids, we road 4 wheel drive side x sides on a guided tour w/meal around country side and ran through the running creek, the excursion into Denali National was a highlight of the trip with all of the big 5 except a bear. ( we saw a Black Bear from the train on our ride to Mt McKinley Lodge). We had the best vacation we ever have had. We did the Land portion of our trip 2nd because after it was over, we stayed another week on our own exploring and fishing Alaska. The couple that went with us played 9 holes of golf at 11:00pm at night. How crazy is that. There’s something for everyone in Alaska.

    We did a land add on tour with HAL back in 2010. It started in Fairbanks and ended in Anchorage travelling mostly on a HAL train. It was one of the most memorable trips that we have ever done. A highlight was a small plane flight from Fairbanks up to Yukon inside the arctic circle. It was offered as a HAL excursion and was amazing.

    We are doing a cruise tour this summer that starts in Fairbanks. I studied all of these cruise tours very carefully. Some tours are more expensive and that means that excursions and food is part of this tour. We are doing one that is called “on your own.” This means that the hotels and transportation between the Lodges is included but nothing extra like excursions or food. Like Allison says food packages can then be bought separately but we wanted the freedom to choose are own excursions as well as where we eat. My 80 year old mother is going with us and she does not eat much and is not up for all day excursions. Just do your research, ask questions and really study the itineraries.

    Thank you- My two cents- I think that there might be an advantage to picking the land tour packages with Princess that have more days on land at each lodge than the ones that you mentioned. The reason that I feel this way is because then you have more time to enjoy at the lodge and do activities at each lodge instead of just spending most of your time on the land portion just getting from one lodge to the other lodge or to the ship. I did a land package that included two days each at three of the lodges which was neat because I had at least one full day at each lodge to totally enjoy and do activities and that did not involve traveling. I also would recommend looking at what type of activities are offered at each lodge in deciding what lodges you want in your package because they vary and are different at each lodge. I did not buy a meal plan on land because it would have been a waste for me as far as what I was involved with in activities at the lodges and the timing of the meals.

    We are thinking about doing an Alaska land / cruise tour next summer (2023). Some friends did the Holland America land cruise tour in 2019 and loved it. I will start doing research but we are torn between Princess and Holland America. We have found the food on Holland America to be superb and we love the classical music on Holland America as well. But I’ve heard the Princess lodges in Alaska are amazing and are geared towards the “nature” experience while my friends said the Holland America lodges were more “city like” , that’s the term they used. Given that these land cruise tours cost thousands we want to make sure that we are comfortable with our decision.

    I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Meal Package because food & everything in Alaska is EXPENSIVE.
    With the Meal Package you can order whatever you want without having to be concerned about prices.
    The vouchers are good for any restaurant venue on the premises & the train ride.
    If you book the Connoisseur CruiseTour the meals are included for the lodges as well as the better Denali National Park tour. (Tundra tour)

      @@LetsGoTravelTips No problem. I’m happy to help. 😊 In 2019 I took my Mom on her 1st Alaska CruiseTour (Land portion first) and we got the meal package because I know how my Mom is (always looking at prices even though I’m the one paying for it). This way she could try different dishes without being concerned about prices… And I’m glad we did get the Meal Package because it was $5 for (1) pancake. (Not a stack of pancakes, but one single pancake. 😮) $9 for a single muffin, $13 for a VERY SMALL Fruit Cup… You could tell the people who didn’t know anything about the Meal Package or for some reason didn’t get the meal package because they would buy (1) muffin or something & split it with their spouse or in Denali they would eat McDonalds or Subway… We didn’t go all the way to Alaska to eat McDonald’s or Subway (We don’t even eat that stuff at home) we wanted to try different dishes.

    • @cruisevilletravel4841
      @cruisevilletravel4841 2 роки тому +1

      I also recommend doing the Land Portion first because there are tours & sightseeing adventures included in the land portion & you might get tuckered out. So doing the cruise last will give you an opportunity to recuperate before your flight home… That way you’ll be well rested for the flight home.
      Do a YT search for “Princess Alaska Favorite Daughter”… It’s a mother & daughter review of their first cruise which was to Alaska & although it’s a long video, it is worth watching because they give good insight on their trip and what they would do differently.

      @Jon Hoff Hi Jon, I did tell everyone that the 4 day cruise on the Caribbean Princess from San Francisco (which is where the Panama Canal cruise was scheduled to end and did end) to Vancouver was cancelled. It was sold as a separate cruise, not part of the Panama Canal cruise. Of course, some passengers were staying on for the 4 day portion and some passengers had planned to board for that 4 day cruise. I double-checked this fact by calling Princess.

      @@LetsGoTravelTips When I booked the cruise it was sold as a 19 Day cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver via the Panama Canal. When it was cancelled in San Francisco the company said it as cancelled because of the vessel going iinto drydock, which was a lie. The cruise was cut short because of a Covid-19 breakout which was totally out of control. We were required to fly back to Vancouver after a 2 day stay in Oakland without any compensation for the 4 days lost aboard the Caribbean Princess.
