kyokushin is so brutal. Without hand strikes to the head, so many fights come down to a test of sheer conditioning and toughness. These guys, win or lose, must come away with some really ugly bruising after their fights.
Yes and it uses less energy too and is quicker and more likely to land as a low kick can be executed more quickly than a high kick can be. Also the person kicking has weight on one leg for a shorter time so balance can be regained more quickly and a low kick rarely is caught as a high kick can be, if an opponent is ever reaching down to grab your low kicks fake a low kick and high kick the head.
Many dislike it because the fighting style is so poor, I am telling you this as a martial artist, I have see Karate fighters whom are down against other martial Arts. You can search FYI.
Kyokushin fights are done with bareknuckle.. Unlike boxers they train bare knuckle by punching trees and other hard objects... So u can take a hit in face from a trained kyokushin fighter.. But in streetfights if they choose they can do face punch and will be very devastating by cracking the scull or jews...
That shin kick to the sciatic nerve seems to be the show stopper in this sport...with more emphasis on footwork & position in relation to your opponent, this could be an effective stand-up game.
this stuff is awesome, i've been training muay thai and boxing for a few years but i've never even watched a comp like this before. a guy who can combine dutch kickboxing with this style of karate and develop the takedown defense of wrestling would be unstoppable in mma. spinning kicks have insane power though you don't see any used here.
The femoral artery (sorry if spelled wrong) runs up the inside of the leg, it as well as the femur are "protected" by a group of nerves. Striking these can cause the body to collapse, and even cause unconsciousness.
After the Spider Silva leg break we need to reevaluate our training on low kicks.... I trust the low kicks a lot as a great weapon. Make sure you catch him without a chance to "check" your kick...
Yeap! Silva kicked too hard without a controlled target. He low kicked too hard not caring where it was hitting. That will break any shin bone in a fight like this if checked and you get the knee... Note taking...
Jordan Connolly There's four things that you need to take into account about developing shin strength. That is, it's not that the tibia is 'thin', it's that you must 1: do a lot of shock stuff to the shin like running 2: hit heavy bags and put elastic things around your shin to manoeuvre up and down 3: roll a pin up and down the shin and 4: drink moderate amounts of calcium.
milnusthegnome You also need vitamin D to absorb the calcium, I personally don't care for the rolling pin thing, I prefer to kick a heavy bag/makawara board.
Inner thigh, wow, brutal, these guys were tough, but in my opinion save that for self defense as it cripples young karateka, kick above belt for sport , geez!
man.... the (back spin & other kick) is an amazing video. But in this one, you really get a feeling of how much power these guys have because of getting KO'd by a low kick! don't know how to explain what i mean... :S hope you got it ^^
i love those low kicks in close range, you can do damage to the legs by controlling your opponents body and taking away the risks of boxing counters (i know kyokushin doesn`t allow punches to the face, but i´ve seen this kicks on mma or muay thai)
Kyokushin Karate kicks are so powerful and much faster too. More fluent. Not even a strong man can take many kicks to the legs. In fact their weight alone would make the leg hurt more. The kicks damage muscle tendons with ease. And with the weight of the strong man’s body (which averages 300 to 400 ibs) would only put massive stress on that forcing them to collapse. As long as you stay out if their grabbing range and take advantage of their weakness, you will win. Skill wins over strength.
In response to those who argue about most Karate not defending the head. It all depends on what you train for. A good Karate style will train you in street self defence and Karate-Do (The way of Karate). If you want to be involved in knockdown tournaments then you will also be trained around that, doing various other combos to attack the body. It's only when you're taught for SPORT that Karate does not in any way focus on defence and attack of the head. As always, it all comes down to training.
People don't realize that it doesn't take many of those leg kicks to put a guy down when you're kicking with the shin. The inside leg kick is the worst, hitting your nerve and making your leg give out. Kyokushin is legit.
@evilherojoseph It's actually part of the scoring system. To win a match you need to score ippon, or full point win. To do so you need to down your opponent for longer than 3 sec. You can also earn waza ari, half point win, if you knock your opponent down and you perform what is called a follow up technique (in most cases a punch) to your downed opponent. It's basically just for scoring purposes.
kyokushinjarhead Actually no. Oyama developed the low kick before that. Low kicks were used in Shotokan dude. Kyokushin is a hybrid of Shotokan and Goju-Ryu. Oyama has used low kicks since the day the art was made.
crazy how this style allows them to kick "right off the bat", and although this doesnt allow for harder striking, it does allow for faster striking. which is best? faster or harder?
Muay Thai follows through with their kicks. Kyokushin Karate drops down their body on the low kick. Muay Thai is fast and sharp but Karate is just heavy all the way. Both good kicks.
What about their heads? I've seen a lot of high kicks to the head, knocking out the opponent. It's like they do not even try to block those incoming kicks. Can you explain that please? I'm really looking into joining a kyokushinkai club. Thanks.
BTW to anyone who is watching, Karate fighters train and spar with head punches and gloves, they just ban it in competitions. Some have closed-face helmets and head punches bare-handed, and some train 2-3 oz cotton gloves and face punches w/out helmet, and some use MMA or boxing or Hybrid gloves.
I have a some questions, for Kyokushin guys the contact is made with the shin or instep? Is the force generated with the hip, meaning you put your hip out almost till where your right shoulder if right lowkicking is facing the target? I've been training Muay Thai for about 3 and half years, if I were to compete in an open tournament what belt should I compete against? and is there such thing as a tournament where guys from other styles could compete? All friendly of course :)
I tried to explain, that K-1 has modified boxing way to score. I'm norwegian, so yeah my English is not the best. Karate say, if both opponet are equal matched yes, but nobody have "scored" in the way of getting points for hits, only way to get point or half point is to knock down/out your opponent. that is what I'm trying to say.
low kick are one of the painfull weapon liver shot and elbows too it sucks trust me i've take a cupple of good low kick yesterday and my leg still in pain, this is curious because i've no ematoma... the first time in 3 year of training(muay thai) i see that...maybe an hairline fracture
@psychedashell i didn't say it was frequently used, but it is arguably more powerful than the standard instep low kick. one of the best leg kick knockouts in k-1 was a spinning kick to the thigh--andy hug vs mike bernardo
@julienvervaecke But velocity increases the power output, Thai low Kicks do plenty of damage because they drop down from a high chamber and swing straight round from an elongated stance, Karate low kicks lash from a standard side chamber, essentially exactly the same as a mid or high roundhouse but hitting low, If it is traditional style it will hit with the shin or ball of the foot, shin has been covered, .
@dfrostytoes Kyokushin has one of the best head kicks around, delivering high kicks at elbow to elbow ranges (check Norichika Tsukamoto and Kenji Midori, but leg kicks are common place. However, head any strike using the arm that is targeted on the head (punch, elbow) aren't allowed. I know it seems crazy, but it gave Kyokushin a unique power when it comes to bare knuckle body punches.
It is said that, colors of the belt are derived from colors of your brusing. You have yellow, blue, you are begginer, But once you get to the greens, browns and black you are the real deal.
@julienvervaecke but a smaller surface increases penetration, and with a Karate Low being faster, being longer ranged ( velocity increases on the arc, and further distance has a greater arc, and greater velocity has more power), and having a smaller striking surface equals greater inherent damage potential, put it this way, I have watched a fair few MT matches and never seen a KO off the lead leg in MT, and have seen plenty in Karate
There is a nerve that runs along the thigh below the thigh muscle. When too many blows are received, the muscle swells and presses the nerve against the bone. This is very painful and causes the foe to become unable to fight. Unfortunately, this strategy is banned from some federations that consider it less effective than a liver shot or a chin blow.
Muai Thai, Sanda, Kyokushin, these are just different sports with different rules. If kicking to groin is allowed, "striking becomes completely different" even more. For me, I practice kyokushin, I just want to train my body and having fun sparring. I dont want get head injury before going to work.
Very specific set of kick KOs here, and no, it is very legitimate, if you kick out a guys knee in a 'real fight,' you get to walk away. This is happening here to people who take those kicks every day and it's still putting them on the ground.
kyokushin is so brutal. Without hand strikes to the head, so many fights come down to a test of sheer conditioning and toughness. These guys, win or lose, must come away with some really ugly bruising after their fights.
and irremediably damaged bodies in later life unfortunateley
@@thirael thanks, I was always wondering about it, a not much people talk about it(or maybe just d't figure it out) 🙏
@Labiche during the founders time kyokushin still included head strikes though.
@@thirael can u mention one condition.. what re the irremediable conditions..?
@@thirael not really since most has never doe what mas oyama did during his time. this is not to bad
It's interesting how a well placed low kick can be just as effective as a high kick to the head! Osu!
Yes and it uses less energy too and is quicker and more likely to land as a low kick can be executed more quickly than a high kick can be. Also the person kicking has weight on one leg for a shorter time so balance can be regained more quickly and a low kick rarely is caught as a high kick can be, if an opponent is ever reaching down to grab your low kicks fake a low kick and high kick the head.
...aaand they hurt like hell
I love low kicks being I have bad knees and hips.
These guys are fast!!!
O yea if you kick the nerves it's really hurting.
The thais know this better than anyone when they fought the americans
I love how your videos show most of the fight. not just highlights. Thank you

Kyokushin Karate! Yeahp, Those inner thigh kicks hurt...
You also gotta love the people on youtube who pride themselves with b/s stories...
I like low kick so b cause its more effective than high kick
very powerful and dangerous low kicks
muaythai, kyokushin, and taekwondo have such a brutal low kick striking
My leg hurts just watching these guys...
I train in Muay Thai and know how much these low kicks hert, this is very impressive..
Fantastic reflexes at 38 against that low kick.
The 44 people that disliked this got to feel a low kick and hated it!
Tyson Arden it’s 77 now
I didn’t dislike it I liked it
relax... you cannot catch them all.

Goju ryu katas leg kicks are low kicks but hard & technical application .

After the Spider Silva leg break we need to reevaluate our training on low kicks.... I trust the low kicks a lot as a great weapon. Make sure you catch him without a chance to "check" your kick...
Nothing will change, there have been many leg breaks... Anderson just went full power, with his relatively skinny leg/shin bone
Yeap! Silva kicked too hard without a controlled target. He low kicked too hard not caring where it was hitting. That will break any shin bone in a fight like this if checked and you get the knee... Note taking...
mzambo666 he also didnt kick with the top of the shin

This low kick damages knee joint...knees should be so strong to take that kick
It's actually not the knees that hurt, it the muscle/tendon(?) that really hurts
Kyokushin leg kicks works in street fights it ends fights quick leg kick then kick to the head sleep
my legs hurt from watching
kyukushin fighter have hard foot
é muita resistencia,da até vontade de fazer isso aí.
would like to see these guys exchanging low kicks with gokhan saki
They can be blocked but sometimes you just cant see it through

@Tothe2012 Kyokushin basically adopted the low kick from Muay Thai when they first encountered Thai boxers in the late 1960s.

What fucking fighting style doesn't allow punching to the head. Brutal- bollocks!
Thai boxing brought forth the devastating low kick.
That late reaction pain is real shit man
@pastropmal I understand that but the round kicks to the knees are still dangerous.
i think it was more of his feet collapsing from the low kicks
@dfrostytoes apparently fist head shots arent allowed only kicks ( which imo are more devastating )
Kyokushin karate practinioners have the strongest leg kicks in the world.
@evilherojoseph it's practiced because it's a stance to take when you "finish" an opponent, that's quite applicable in real-life situations.
@bizzle187 You've probably noticed, but the title is LOW kicks, there are very few spinning kicks to the thighs.
i know rick..i m doing thai boxing in greece for exactly a year but it s very easy to block or counter lows like that..
the kick is called gedan
Clorox Lollipop Vedanta gedan just refers to the height. It means low level. The kick is called gedan mawashi geri (low level round kick)

What's the defense for low kicks?!
