  • Friends have asked how to make spider webs beef netting from Trenton Mills. Here's my experience:
    (sorry it's sideways)
Slit tube on one side so you're working with a flat layer
The bigger the holes, the larger area it covers (and better it looks)
It's easier to cut when stretched very tight and cut with sharp scissors (not Xacto knife)
Easier to cut holes first, THEN attach to display as it grows when you cut it
Quite a bit of 'snow' is created when cutting
Cut many different sized holes, cutting small ones between bigger ones
If you cut holes vertically (think pantyhose) the stretches wider and frays less and runs more, cut horizontally and it gets baggy in the middle
This is the 50/50 poly/cotton and the glow under blacklight is only mediocre
    Please add your advice!

It is like cutting a nylon stocking. I just bought some beef netting so have to work o the holes now.

Try a few different cutting tools to see which you find is easiest. We preferred sharp, ponty scissors BY FAR, but others have used an Xacto knife.
      Good luck!

I cannot find the netting? Where did you purchase it from?

How do you manage to stretch the pieces that far? I’ve been cutting off 12-15 foot pieces and can’t stretch them very far, otherwise they start to shrink in the middle.

We kept it continuous. First we slit about 15 feet or so and hooked 3 corners at any time. One to garage door track, one to a hook screwed into a wall, one to a ladder, the 4th corner pulled by hand. As it 'grew' we slid the ladder away and rehooked corners as needed. The finished length got piled into a box until we could accurately gauge the true length and width.
I'm surprised it didn't tangle more! It took about a month of casual snipping to do about 7lbs.

inachair so did you move one corner a few inches/feet further every day? I’ve got a big enough backyard to do it, but I definitely will need to plan this for next year.

@@Durdenhood2007 You can see how quick it is at a casual pace. On a good day, we'd get through 60-80 finished feet. Keeping it continuous also made it quicker because starting with the holes ready to hook at the max width made it easier to pick up.

@@Durdenhood2007 We would shift holes to keep highest tension every 5-10 min or so.

You’re cutting them too big! How are you supposed to reuse those?

I'm on my 4th year using them! They still look great. The trick is to layer the netting.
