    As an Norwegian from the western coast of Norway, the most realistic thing you could do next is to create more small towns in the fjords around the map, and make them connect with ferries and small roads. I also would love to see more small houses in the mountain side. Take a look of Bergen or other parts of Norway!
    I love this map!

      A tram would be cool. The town maybe small but it can be extended into an intercity light rail in the future, especially for small towns that are far apart but don’t have the population to support a metro or suburban rail.

      I think a building a new town first is a better idea to decide if it needs to connect via tram or not. Plus i suggest a picnic point or a hill station on the top of that hill would be amazing.

    36:38 - The building right up to the little inlet with the bridge is obviously a legacy boating club. They own this inlet, because they originally build it and they resisted any effort of local politicians to close it off, even for the purposes of erosion protection of the harbour. This is why the main key wall has this wierd hole in it.
    The clever local politicians, however, made use of a national exception in the law to build the bridge that was deemed "critical infrastructure" as road feight access to the rail yard. So now the boating club owns an inlet they can't sail out of as the bridge is NOT a movable bridge.
    But instead of giving up in the face of adversity, the boating club persists, even expanded by adding a repair shop for small crafts, specialized on foldable masts - as this is what all members are forced to use on their boats since the bridge was build in the 70s.

    The story to explain why that little inlet next to the railyard is there could be the following:
    There used to be an island where the railyard sits now, and a connection to the mainland was built to make space for the train line. During that process a fish processing plant wanted to keep its direct access to the sea, leading to the inlet being built. When fishing vessels quickly became bigger, they didn’t fit anymore, the factory was relocated, and the inlet closed off with a bridge to allow for freight traffic to the railyard.
    Additionally, it now can be used as a cooling water reservoir for the adjacent industry.

    • @truefunghi9351

      I was thinking it might now be a little research project of the local Haugen marine research institute (just to cater the Norway vibe).
      Since the fishery industry is out, it is completely unused and untouched now. Perfect conditions to observe natural processes in industry vicinity and heavy noise and water pollution.

    • @anonimus1230

      I was thinking it can be a touristical submarine diving point. I know it's a bit unrealistic, but the bridge is so low that a boat can't fit through. or there's can be a geological research.

    • @plini-xi3ux
      @plini-xi3ux Місяць тому +2

      I was thinking it could be remanents from an old shipyard that used to build large-ish fishing boats in a dry dock type of situation. But changing fishing conditions, new methods, greater competition etc. put them out of business.

    That’s a great work done there, so smoothly integrated! If there was a different tram modification in the game, a smaller one car, then yes, it would make sense because tram were present even before buses became popular. However, here a good bus route connecting everybody with old town, port and the station would make more sense😊

  • @Tobiassaufus
    @Tobiassaufus Місяць тому +3

    I would remove the cantenaries inside the offloading area, they would be in the way regardless of how you handle the containers and create unneccesarry dangerous situations. The fright trains in the game are diesel anyways, so they couldnt even use them (i would make the entire section passenger train station to cargo harbor without cantenaries). Also a crane would be pretty neat here

    • @MozzaBurger88
      @MozzaBurger88 19 днів тому +1

      Yeah, IRL freight locomotives will either be diesel or electrical with "last-mile" diesel generator or batteries or freight cars will get shunted by some diesel engine from a shunting yard at the end of the electrified parts (before the tunnel for instance). You'll never have catenaries in a port environment like that for obvious safety reasons.

    Nice episode! Just a little FYI from a RL Locomotive Engineer... your cargo line down to the port from the passenger station.. 100kph? Thats a bit much, I'd aim for a max of 50kph! Also looks nicer when the trains arent breezing through there :) The Railyard probably should have around 30kph max with the end of track there.

    Out of all your series, this is the one I love the most, it is so amazing to see you build not just with challenging terrain, but in a style not many CS2 youtubers are doing. I really hope in the future you expand out from this little bay and perhaps instead of building any major sprawling metropolis you stick to this theme of small villages with dense, old European design. Perhaps along the river near the starting tile, you could build an old market or mill town and then surround it with tons of farm land. Then you could more easily justify the tram you are thinking about putting in by having it bouncing between Fjordholm and whatever the market town would be called (perhaps Mølleby? which is just Mill Town in Danish lol).

    Nobody asked for this lol, but on the realism of pipes under roads: CPP is wrong when he's said that "pipes also belong under highways". The reason they're often put under roads in built up areas is because you're going to need to fix pipes when they break, and it's a lot easier to close a road for a few days in a place where there's lots of road redundancy than it is to need to get to those big pipes under buildings. Broadly speaking, the higher up the road hierarchy you go, the less you want to close that road. When it comes to roads that link towns (not many of such roads, high speed, few connections) you want them to open at all times; and there is no reason to put pipes right under them - you can just put them to the side (unless a crossing is needed for some reason).

    Things that are needed in here:
    1) Light-rail trams. (!!) But it does not ride the loop in the actual city. Instead of that, trams sometimes ride parallel to the seaside and get people to the city from hotels, sanatoriums, villages.
    2) Church / City hall somewhere in the central square;
    3) Central square;
    4) Beach in the lagoon.

    The cargo ship should be docked on the other side of the cargo yard. Although you might be able to manouver it in place where it sits, you gotta consider wether the tug boats would be able to fit inbetween the cargo terminal and the warehouse that's jutting out right next to it.

    If you want some "back story" lore, then the majority of the tunnel that currently has buildings over it was built using cut and cover and the buildings are more recent. The bit away from the town was a more usual tunnel.
    I would also lower the speed limit on the two-way narrow track for a few reasons, but primarily the grade it is on would make trains going faster look strange and the fact that it has an at grade crossing near the port. It is a relatively short bit of track, so it shouldn't cause congestion.

    At 36:38 it kinda looks like a drydock for small ships the town used for fishing or trading, and the railyard it was built initially as an easier way to bring in wood for ship construction. Later, due to not being used much for shipbuilding anymore, it could be bought by a fishery nextdoor and along whatever they catch out at sea they have a small area to grow smaller fish in. The floodgate the shipbuilders used would likely be underneath the new bridge, but it hasn't seen much use either.

    I love this work. It's art. :) Two small suggestions: The way you split the train tracks like a bunch of flowers would not work in reality. Normally, train tracks split one by one. And there should be some kind of a crane to lift up the containers.

    For a little bit more realism, you should force the path of the cargo train to go on the non-platformed track in the passenger station. This frees up the platform for passenger rail and makes more sense for a train just passing by

  • @hoser193

    Great video and info. One suggestion for the railyard you need an escape track for the locomotive for when a train comes in locomotive first. It is purely cosmetic as the cargo trains in game just reverse direction.

  • @PrestigeTeh
    @PrestigeTeh Місяць тому

    Keep the bridge, and add two nodes and raise them slightly. let it look like an opening for small non-industrial fishing piers for the local to come and go. imagine speedboats or boats with paddle where the locals use them to fish around the edges of the peninsula.

  • @diecicatorce6259

    For the small water inlet by the railyard you could make a shipyard/dry dock and "roleplay" that the bridge is a drawbridge. Another possibility is a fish farm

    Lovely build, it looks great. I'd add a church near that cemetary up the fjord.
    Here comes the annoying railway worker in me: Freight trains are diesel. You don't want a crane to mess up with catenaries :P
    Also a detail, your trains are one wagon too long, the locomotive should clear off of the railway switch.

    For extra props and realism, I guess you need to place truck props on your industrial and the cargo hold. Even smaller trucks can work like those container vans (Isuzu Elf, Mitsubishi Fuso, and the European likes). Overall such nice build, I like the small city vibe.

    59:45 you can see another valley on the left side of the screen, if you would like to play with terrain along the mountines you could make ther another part of this city maybe with some ,,grand tunnel" going straight thru the mountine. I think it could look really great like wrapping the fjords with houses

    36:48 the little inlet seems perfect for aquafarming/aquaculture to me if you made the edges a little greener . Obviously not suitable for salmon or trout, but maybe mussels/prawns? Not sure if they have much of those in the Nordics, but they do in the north sea in Belgium for example

    i have 2 suggestions for the rail yard you made :o, the first being a crane for the containers if that prop exists. and for the little loch of water you made. im also not sure of the props available, but a small historical ship like a tugboat that helped battle a historical fire or helped a ship out in the sea with rescues or something to that end if it would fit could go in that space. BTW Love you vision for this build. i know nothing about that area of the planet and its nice to see how thing are layed out in that part of the world!

    Hi, I watched so many of your videos within the last 24 hours! Here are a few suggestions:
    1) slow down the train speed in the city to 50 (especially behind the houses and on the little bridge)
    2) do you want to develop a public beach on one of the fjords? Maybe a rocky one, not really a tropical sand one.
    Generally I think that having more landmarks would fit really well.
    Also, expanding onto different fjords with new neighborhoods could be the reason to get a tram
    3) While there are A LOT of trees, id like to see more actual green spaces - small parks squeezed in betweeen buildings, a piece of grass with a footpath and flowers. In the previous video, there was a person walking a dog on the water front promenade which was all concrete and it felt so wrong 😅

    The issue with utilities under highways I ran into as well - if you replace all the segments (including the one you modified originally) with the upgrade tool, it seems to solve it, I think it's a bug where they don't detect the utilities being added with the road builder tool but do detect when utilities are placed via the regular road tool, or at least that was able to solve it for me.

    A tram would be awsome, but as I already stated in another comment, we sadly only have 1 type of tram depot and its way too big. If someone would make a smaller one, mabye with just 2 or even 1 door on each side of the depot and an outdoor line next to it, would be so cool.
