He is an absolute champ with versatility as a sprinter/miler, but he was one of the first beaten here, and a long way out. Caulfield Cup is an even more demanding staying test, not just further distance but much harder tempo. Hussler will see more backsides than Elton John on holidays!! :o)
Weekend Hussler was a good horse no champion, alot of his G1s came via Horse Flu so he was only beating Melb horse that in alot of them were coming back from spells, but still would have loved him and Ross McDonald should have kept him to 1200-1600m races and he would have been around longer, he was never going to run 2000m nor 2400m I couldnt believe what they tried to do with this horse. Greed. I would have to say his Newmarket win was prop his best win along with the Randwick Guineas when he got on the wrong leg and just nosed out his brother on Triple Honour.
Total greed what they did to this horse, to even have him as an early favourite for a Melb Cup was a joke, he was at 1200-1600m horse and trying to win this and did nothing then to keep going on to try and win a Caulfield Cup was just killing the horse, as I said total greed, he would have been around alot longer if they had kept him to no more than a mile.
Proof that this horse is only a miler/ sprinter and way OVERATED.. He's breeding sugggests he should run beyond 2000 but he didnt live up... All the hype and the attention... Go back to 1200 1400 1600 Hussler!!!! You hussled many punters out there!!! You deserve to be in the paddock after the Caul Cup!
I know. It was embarrassing to watch. Wtf was the thought process. The underwood stakes flattened him completely and he should have been spelled for the autumn sprints
The Hussler was 1200-1600m horse greed and media talk ruined him, how was he ever favourite for the Melb Cup ? Yeah he won over 1800m but agsinst alot of stayers 1st or 2nd up, but was never a factor in the Caulfield Cup and was never seen again. Should have kept him to 1200 to 1600m races. RIP Ross McDonald but he got it wrong with this bloke. Was he that good anyway considering it was during horse flu and raced only Melb horses although his Randwick Guineas win was prob his best brother v brother

He was a champion sprinter and could have raced on for many years including overseas like Takeover target and other greats.
