- Well here we are, the end of another wonderful and successful #orktober
This is one that I will remember for a long time to come, the Ork Stompa I got off of eBay has been one of the most destroyed, mangled, and messed up models that I have ever worked on, and it took everything in me to get it to the finish line for this video. That being said, it's also been one of the most rewarding projects that I've done on this channel, probably because I really like how it turned out! I had no idea this was going to be so much of a challenge and I'm so glad to share the experience with you all. What an Orktober!

Working in retail for 20 years, I immediately noticed those green guns all over the front were repurposed register receipt roll tubes. Lol

I thought about it for a long time, even tested a few ideas, but once I pulled out those claw tractors I knew I wanted to use one. If I ever get another one of these, and there's a good chance I will, I would like to try for a chest gun upgrade. I know Forgeworld sells a kit for it, not that I would use that, but it's definitely a thing that this model can be equipped with, so someday there might be a receipt roll put into a Stompa surrounded by a massive amount of well-modeled cannons....someday
It's a shame cause it's the real good spark of ingenuity the original had, just a belly full of bristling guns for as much dakka as possible, if it had been done using a gallery of kannons, zzzaps and looted artillery from other races, maybe set up some scaffolding along the sides so numerous orks and grots can man them all, it would've been really unique and cool.
Yeah. This feels like borderline clickbait tbh. It's a great 'save', of the underlying model, but at the cost of that something special that made the original neon monstrosity so interesting in the first place.
I loved this rescue.
However the cluster of guns on the body were a main feature of the original model, and I was hoping you'd carry that across to the rescue.
Not with the exact same tubes used on the original of course, but sort of like a new and improved version of the original idea.
I also hoped the gun cluster would stay. Its hideous but something an ork would think of
Originally I was wanting to go down that road, but when I pulled out the claw tractors I was really sold on trying to make that work. I really liked the idea that the Stompa was like a mobile armory that could open up and let lose some ridiculous machine to snatch people up.

Snapping a panel in half and gluing it back together seems like a pretty valid choice when you're building an ork vehicle
Thanks for saving this model and giving it a second coming. I'm glad to see it served a bigger purpose in it's life and bring joy / entertainment to so many viewers.
Had a few customers reach out to us regarding your video after they saw it, did not realize it was going to you for your channel. I agree the price was definitely over inflated but glad we were able to work out the deal. The one thing I thought they did a decent job on was magnetizing the arms for this thing.
For some extra background for anyone who might be interested. I purchased this from an individual near Peterborough, ON roughly 3 years ago. He was getting out of the hobby and probably had the largest Orks lot I have ever purchased (I think I paid $3,000 for everything). There were a bunch of other models in the similar green paint scheme, 300 boys, 100 grots, 20 killa kans etc. I'm a bit hazy on the details but when he showed me the model he told me it was scratch built from spare parts he had found, so I guess he didn't have the front plate and came up with the "cannons" to fill in the gap.
This stompa actually has a twin brother out there somewhere, but not as gruesome and without the receipt rolls. I think I saw in the comments someone said they bought it so that might be the one they are referring to. When I went to grab this out of the storage one of our customers saw it and freaked out "What is that thing!" haha.

I think its kind of a shame all those gun barrels disappeared, sure it looked like shit but it wouldve been fun to bring back a couple of them/similar pieces as to hold true to the vision of the original builder
Personally speaking i think replacing the barrels with a mix of heavy and vehicle weapons of ork and imperial origin with some bits to fill the gaps could have kept the whole "walking wall of guns" theme. like a battlecannon here, a lascannon there, some heavy bolters and some autocannons and maybe a couple of flamers at the bottom.

I'm honestly sorry you didn't find a way to use those ridiculous tubes in its final shape. It was horrible but unforgettable. Now it's cool but I won't remember it in ten minutes :/

Hey, in my opinion rescuing the model very successful you really brought this model back to life the only caveat I could have is the lack of this irrational amount of guns in the middle of the model. I know how crazy this idea was, but I think it was he who made everyone know it was exactly this model. He lost some soul, and Orkimedes became sad :P

One of those things that I couldn't bring myself to do. I thought about using one to extend one of the gun barrels, but the more I sat with them the less I wanted to use one. I kept them all, so they might end up in some project down the line, never know :)
I think it is quite nice that you give the creator of this thing some kudos and start from that point with your critique, instead of just completely stomping on him. As someone who is relatively new to miniature painting and diorama making (no tabletop player), I found this quite wholesome and encouraging.
I think the best part about this hobby is that wherever you are in it, or however long you've been in it, you always have something to share! Sometimes it's tough to execute on the ideas we have in our heads, but with good feedback and practice and we can all get there :)
I was kinda hoping you would keep the absolutely bonkers wall of belly guns... Fantastic job though.
The final result doesn’t look bad at all, but I feel the original model lost its soul in the proces. The belly full of guns, the hideous neon green and all the weird random bits really gave the model a lot of character and charm. Now it looks more like a standard model and way less scratch build.

Everytime I see a Stompa I get the urge to buy one, they are ridiculous but my Ork collection will never be truly complete without one.

Using some of the receipt rolls really would have kept the fun spirit of the original. Busting out that on the table would make a really memorable experience

I could never resist using the template's sprue-runners: Orks' aesthetics would be complimented by the addition of the stock-frame repurposed as toughened barbs and superficial reinforcement.
Every kit is an Ork kit? I like that. It reminds me of a phrase my wife uses, "everything is a dildo if you're brave enough". That's a very Orkish philosophy.

If they weren't so recognizable as receipt rolls I probably would have used at least a few. I still have them though, so who knows where they will end up!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues what if you trimmed the outer diameter into a cone shape and bolstered the back end with a larger bit of tubing? I think with a little disruption to the silhouette and integrating them into the body (having an area that says "this is where the orcs load and aim the gun" instead of them just being hotglued to nothing) could really sell it.

Really glad you didn’t dunk on the original model maker there- appreciation for the concept and the work put in and constructive criticism of the materials went a long way. I can just imagine some poor kid seeing his model labelled the ‘worst ever Warhammer model’ and never playing again.
$50 plus free advertising was a great deal for the guy! I've got my own eBay store selling painted warhammer and the kind of traffic having your store featured on your channel is worth way more than his $150 price so worked out well for you both 👍 some of my stuff on my eBay needs rescuing 😜

Tistaminis is my local LGS for all things Warhammer and I am happy to see the stompa freed from its greenscreen lookin' misery and made propa orky and ready to krump some gitz! WAAAGH!

Awesome results. Perhaps the original builder had no budget for better assembly or had limited access to such materials. I like that you don't bash the original builder. Had I come across that model in the wild, I would have had a hard time coming up with genuine positive comments. Especially with younger hobbyists, let's all try to be kind with our comments on their work. Great job man!

Honestly, despite the total lack of paint other than green primer, I appreciate the original vision the artist was going for. I can definitely see some crazed Big Mek putting together the vision of his dreams. The ultimate dakka platform. With each salvo the stompa would potentially fall over, and so would thousands of its enemies.
Awwwwww yeah i love a feel good story involving a Rescue, so glad to see Stompy found a forever home. Good man!
Very great work! Though I will say that if the inner magnets were set slightly into the stompa: both so that them and the outer magnets were hidden when the arms and neck were attached yet also for increased stability/slightly less movement; I think the idea of having magnets wouldn't be so bad. An alternative method might be to have the upper torso just lift entirely off starting below the 'shoulders'; that way there's a little ridge covering the magnet(s) holding the upper torso onto the lower body. That way the size of the figurine can be reduced for transport, but it's still stable and looks good where it matters. The upper and lower portions could have slightly interlocking pieces, almost like a puzzle but more of a drop it down and it fits together type thing, stopping it from jiggling side to side to much when being moved around the battlefield. Although, a top section that can literally spin a full 365 degrees might also be pretty awesome enough to try it without the interlocking pieces. That's a lot of firing arc to dakka dakka.
I'm not a war gamer and have never painted a mini. I don't why the Almighty Algorithm brought me here, but holy shit is that an impressive job. Casey, you are an artist.

Wow! You did an amazing job with this rescue. From making a great deal when purchasing the model all the way to your free hand painting at the end. You have such a cool channel and it is great to see these models get a second life after all the hard work you put in.

It's been a long time in the making for sure! And pretty much only worked on in Orktober, save for 4 or 5 minis. Crazy how time flies though, seems like only yesterday I was painting my first ork.

Just found your channel and Warhammer modeling, everything on here is just pure awesome inspiration. I've painted acrylics on canvas for years but lately I've been tossing around the idea of getting into Warhammer/3d printed model painting. You pretty much just sold me on it, that thing is a monstrosity..but now it's a super fly monstrosity! Looking forward to more content, the level of detail you explain is really fun to watch. That "red clay" looks like Bondo brand spot putty to me.. and people often forget that it still needs hardener, you can't just use it right out of the tube. When you use it without hardener it'll somewhat dry out but it never actually gets hard/cures. The other stuff holding the magnets in looks like Gorilla Glue, the foaming type. You really need to get a hobby media blaster for stripping off stubborn paint. If you use baking soda (yes normal baking soda) it'll strip off the paint and not bother the plastic.
I always wanted to build a Stompa or Gorkanaut with the front panel open and a giant rocket sticking out with grots riding it and two wrecking balls hanging bellow it... and a bunch of other grots inside including one on a stripper pole... because grots are weird that way.
Whoaaaa!! As someone who is just getting into the hobby of Warhammer painting, I loved watching the amount of detail and time you put into your project. Super inspiring and definitely where I want to be at some point in the future

I’m guessing they saw the damage they had done to it and just gave up and quit Warhammer 40K entirely.

Interesting though, I got more info on this model recently in the comment section from Tistaminis. I guess the guy who sold this to them also sold a massive lot of orks along with it. He found this model somewhere and used stuff he had laying around to try and make it playable. He sold everything to them though and said he was done with the hobby, so who knows, this model could have broken him and he bowed out entirely lol.
This is superb, right down to the glinting reflections in that ork's eyes at 26:26 as he peers out from within the belly of the beast.

Nicely done, I have a necron army and I try a few things from Time to time to make them stand out a bit more, which is hard in a uniform army, but I like the challenge to change things up and still have it make sense. Bravo on your build, it looks like something that I would have expected out of a kit, and would like to see on a table. I just came across your channel today and even though this is the first video I've seen I know that you're someone who I can learn from even though I've been into warhammer for years. I've found that it's much easier to strip paint from a model after spraying it with some oven cleaner. Softens the paint AND makes superglue more b4ittle and easier to chip away.
Its so Ork that the shoulder of their Stompa is now made from a piece of your old Titan kit.

I've purchases from that ebay vendor before and If memory serves they were in Canada, so that is most likely why he referenced "USD", as with the conversion it would have been even worse a deal on their end if it was 50 Canadian.
It's definitely referencing the difference in currency. I just enjoyed the wordplay because it reminded me of business deals in old movies I've watched.
I have a life long love of modeling second on to my lifelong hatred of Warhammer and it's atheistic. I only bring that up to drive home my compliment of your exceptional skills. I can't stress strongly enough how impressed I am with what you've so brilliantly done here to a thing I want to dislike, but can't.

The most unbelievable part of this is the tally marks on the side...orks can't count that high.
I mean, making sure you're talking about american dollars is actually kind of a smart thing to do if they don't wanna be scammed, looking at how there's quite a lot of countries using dollars.
I'm actually always getting a mild shock when I visit the the Games Workshop website to check something, just to have the website be set to Australia for some weird reason and the prices are double or triple the price, just because the australian dollar isn't the strongest currency.
The exchange rate in Australia isn't that bad. GW just has insane prices in different countries.
@@kenupton4084 Yeah, for some reason GW cranks prices to the stratosphere in countries other than the UK or Europe. I know shipping costs and customs fees are a thing but still. Even in America, probably it's most massive market, there's like a 30% price increase.
Also, the consumers have to cover the cost of shipping nearly every single thing sold in this country. Shipping/import tax are real fun killers, I tell you.
And our poor friends down under are saddled with the general expense of importation from overseas
@@brianhall4182 my roommate had a friend visit for NZ. I told him to hit up the game store and bring a bunch of models home to sell for big profit. He stared at me confused. My New England accent may have been too much for him to handle.
I thought the tons of guns coming out of the chest cavity fitted the stompa quite nicely
Not keeping the insane amount of chest guns was a mistake. It was the soul of that model.

I remember seeing this EXACT MODEL at my FLGS (Tista Minis in Hamilton Ontario). I thought, "wow what a disaster", and moved on, as I don't play orks. Then i see it on your channel, and as usual, you hit it out of the park.
After watching this video more and more, I’m starting to come to the conclusion that this was actually a very deliberate and thought-out meme of a model, and the original creator has succeeded in that his model is on UA-cam
It's totally possible that was the creator's intention all along. I've gotten a model in a similar shape to this before that was on eBay where I for sure thought I was being called out, like 99% sure it was a listing directed at me. And honestly, if that's the case for this stompa, I'd love to shake that guy's hand lol.
13:11 an orc probably wouldn’t use use a hatch with a wheel on it even though they understand how it works, “yah can’t steer ah door”
I love how wobbly the thing is moving, exoecially the head. Really looking like a wjore pile of scrap put together in a dangerous fortress that moves on sore really dry land

Orks and death guard models are so fun to me as well as the most appealing in different ways. Orks are literally kit bashing 101 it’s just take whatever looks fun and use some creative liberties to do whatever you want especially when it involves more dakka. Death guard involves decay and bloated flesh so when I see these plague burst crawlers using eyes and lots of green stuff to make such unique monstrosities of flesh and or metal it’s always impressive to me.
removing all those cannons and not replacing them is kind of a shame. looks just like a normal stomper now

Were those register tape rolls glued to the front of the initial model. Oh well we're are all guilty of "it seemed like a good idea at the time." Glad you were able to salvage this one.

Kind of looks like something the orks pulled out of the scrap heap...kind of flavorful given the life this model's had.

As neat as the recipt rolls are for some kind of scary Shock Weapon or Laser Cannon, those are probably best used on a something greater than a Stompa. A Gargant. Though definitely in fewer numbers, like 3 or 4 at most.

Yeah, some kind of 2 part epoxy on more than a few parts...real hard to get off!
