Thank you so much for such an honest overview of the race. I'll be doing it for the first time this year and an absolute novice with it too but watching your video just inspired me even more. Thanks mate
Lovely video such common sense and useful advice. I did the first 9 GNR’s then got pregnant my baby is now 32. I’m doing the 5k as part of the great north weekend. I’ve done 13 GNR’s so far - I’m 61 and hope to do at least another one - it used to be easier to get a number/entry. Good luck everyone in all GNR events 2022. Listen to this guy he has totally intelligently conveyed how to tackle the main even - nice one kidda.xxx
great video found very informative , this will be my first north run and only my second half marathon . really excited can't wait to get to the start line :)
Not long now, Katie! The nerves/excitement grows each day! Get everything all organised before the weekend and then, if you can, relax! Good luck for it! I'll keep an eye out on the TV for you!
Great advice thankyou, i am doing my first ever marathon and it will be GNR 2022 4 days before my 60th birthday. Training is hard But your advice " Do your own pace is how i have been working on. Its a marathon NOT the Olympics, Not the time its to finish. And raise lots for the BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION. Thanks for your honest and useful advice.
Thanks for this step by step guide for GNR-I'm doing it this year for my first time. Looking forward to it though very nervous about it!! Good luck 'A Runner's Ramble' and everyone who doing it.
Rebecca Elsdon Thank you, Rebecca! I'll be doing another video this year as I'll be there too! Nerves are part of the fun! I'm almost certain it won't be your last GNR!
It's going great! Blaydon Races helped massively the other night, need to fight the temptation to NOT run! I'm sure I'll be fine, I have Virtual Running bling to claim!
Sage Advice,!Still struggling where to park (thinking LEA?). We are coming up for M'Boro and coming off at Washington and following the dual carriageways up to South Shields. Hopefully complete my 12 half Marathon's in 12 months (actually 14, including Para 10 at Cater rick the week after the GNR). Thank you dude! ;-)
Thank you very much!, Rob! The leas? They’ve totally closed off the parking bays from the bottom of the Marsden Inn bank (big drop hilly thing). I’d try park on the outskirts of South Shields! Ohh now that sounds incredible! Bravo, sir! 👏🏻 good luck for GNR!
Also why on earth would anyone want to give a thumbs down to this video?? Ridiculous, it should have a lot more views and likes than it has already I thought it was a great run through (no pun intended lol)
Chris Johnson Thank you SO much for this, Chris! I really appreciate your kind words about this video! It's why I made this series for first-time GNR runners, just to shine a bit of light on what to expect! Hope the training is going well!
A Runner's Ramble No problem at all mate, it deserves more views than its had. a suggestion that you might want to consider if u like, possibly try doing a walk of your highlighted parts of the course? the way you described things was really good but to also have a bit of a visual to it would be really good I think. just a thought mate, keep up the good work mate cheers
A Runner's Ramble Also, I've since watched your video a few more times but also had a notepad and pen to jot down all the top tips. I'm so glad I watched your video because I'd have been no where near prepared. Cheers
The ballot has already taken place, sadly BUT there are charity places available I’d imagine! Head to Great Run’s site, as there would be much better info there for you!

Coming in by car from Hexham - how much time would you leave and have you any info about where we might be able to get dropped off?
Hi Mate,
Great video, iam doing the GNR this year. What would you say the best way to get there and back would be from Morpeth?
Thanks
Hiya Tom, whta are the chances, I live in Morpeth as well!
Best way I made it was get the train to Newcastle then the metro to haymarket!
My debut this year - Complete not Compete is my mantra
Finish lines > finish times! You will love it!
Top video. I'm Coming from Wrexham to run this (first half marathon) Can't wait. Are you running it?
