The Archer has been a highly requested video that over the years I refused to do. Moevil threw out the idea of doing something goofy/terrible and well. Here you go. The Archer video.

What is your most hated vehicle in game?
Seeing Jumbo or being trashed in Flak88 by a plane also in Waffenträger. But i still love their powerful cannons!

That's basically most tank destroyers. With the exception of the reversing
That's honestly not wrong. It was used more as a mobile anti-tank gun, as in a defensive weapon that doesn't need to be towed from fixed position to fixed position than anything else. Compared to say, a Wolverine (or the 17pdr British version of it) which you can use reactively, moving to where the enemy tanks are headed to counter them, and even offensively if need be.
The problem is, War Thunder is a tank game, and the Archer is just an anti-tank gun.

Did you know: the archer was so good the British thought the only way to make it sporting and fair was to face the gun backwards? This gave Jerry a chance to possibly maybe unlikely slightly damage the 'tank' with their 88mm

It helps to play the Archer with manual transmission mode, as you can turn it really quickly if you know the gears. Stationary turning for example is best done in second.

I see that the British attempts to develop Spider-Man technology didn't go so well. A hearty slap on the back for effort though! Also, that admission - running a red light on a highway - that explains A LOT. Actually, it explains EVERYTHING about Bo's video game tank driving abilities.

I remember when the Archer was new. The chaos caused by a thing hiding somewhere with a 17 pdr was immense as the slaughter happened until they found you
lmao imagining trying to move the archer with its 18 km per hour, yeah if it can get somewhere, it has a chance to do something, not a 100% chance though because you also have to look at said tank which is also a massive problem with the archer, it cant turn, massive deal for a tank with no turret

I like how the gun is actually backwards on the model as well, as his indicator on the map points the opposite direction to the gun.
I actually like Archer: low profile, decent speed, big gun; it's fiddly, but if you know some decent spots to snipe from, it can be very deadly.

I, also, ran a red light during my driving test. It was one of those with arrows and without a yellow and it just switched from green to red when I passed the line. He commented on it but said: "Oh, well. It's just things that happens. It wasn't red when you saw it and decided to go, so it's ok."

The archer is one my favorite tanks in war thunder I have over 400 kills with it just gotta get use to the playing style
Tbh on open maps, you can easily camp and snipe all tanks at that rank in 1 shot. You need to know that right places to hide. The forward speed(reverse when aiming gun) is good to roll back if you get spotted.
I don't go out of my way to play it, but I think its limitations present one of the most interesting challenges in the game. Other vehicles have slow traverse, thin armour, bad depression angle, tall profile... all deficits on a linear scale compared to other vehicles with faster traverse, thicker armour, better depression angle, a smaller profile etc., but I can't think of a ground vehicle quite so unique as having a backwards-mounted gun. My strategy is basically "THERE ARE NO BRAKES" until I spot an enemy and spin 180° at full throttle.
Not to say that other flawed ground vehicles don't present intriguing challenges... like trying to pen anything with the FCM.36 or finding a spot of ground flat enough for the SAu 40 not to bounce around incessantly.
Thanks for making this video Bo. The Archer was an obvious tank missing from your British videos, and I'm so happy you hate it :)

I also failed my first drivers test. Didn't parallel park correctly the first time.
I won't forget the first time I took out the Archer a team mate scolded me and asked me why I didn't bring a Valentine or something useful lol. The Archer is extremely situational but it can do some work. But unlike every single tank in the German tree, the Archer has some serious draw backs and weaknesses where as the Dicker Max, Nashorn and Sturer Emil are all significantly more playable in the game all are better armed or at least have significantly better post pen damage and top tier penetration at their BRs. I still like the Archer even if it is something that will rarely work in a game like War Thunder.

idk why I always enjoy the vehicles that most people seem to detest. The Archer, for instance, was one of my favorite low-BR tanks to run before I got the premium event Comet. In World of Tanks, I enjoyed playing the M3 Lee.

That's honestly too simple to have a whole documentary. It was made like that because the Valentine was the only chassis available and there was no other way to make the gun fit.

After one hour in the World War mode I really needed some good goofy distraction, and this video was perfect to brighten my mood! Also pretty interesting to see the slow combat of the Archer being in stark contrast to the seemingly more fun and faster battles in the armored car after that - still, 6 kills with the tank destroyer!

in my first match in the archer I got 4 kills before burning out from not have a fire extinguisher. I liked the tank but I don't want to use it ever again and the only reason why I liked it was due to its positioning in the tech tree. before the archer the british tech tree is nothing but pop guns that do nothing against enemy armour, even armoured cars with wooden armour don't give a hoot about british pop guns, but then the archer comes with a large gun which can pen every other tank at its tier. the first tank the british get that can actually kill something but unfortunately its gun is facing the wrong bloody way.
the archer is not a breath of fresh air, its a waft of rotten eggs but comes with a decently sized nose plug that allows you to run desperately towards the none stinky air that is the firefly and Achilles.

That was more or less the IRL reason for the Archer as well. The two-pounder had stayed in production and use longer than intended, because there was such a need for tanks the factories hadn't re-tooled for the six-pounder. Then the seventeen pounder starts coming online, but it's too big to be really practical as a towed gun, so they slapped it onto a vehicle to use as an SPG in a defensive capacity. It didn't fit on a valentine chassis facing forwards, hence this design.

Hated possibly Great Yes the Valentine SP 17pdr Archer just requires a skillset that includes being patient and a good ambush position it also has a great gunner sight that's next to the 17pdr it's glorious, Also CAC Boomerang is actually meant to have a bomb but Gaijin hate us Aussies.

its funny i actually do enjoy playing the archer... sure its annoying at first but my best game with it was a 13 kill game from sniping at long range
I use to get 15-18 kills every game in damn near every tank. Took 2 years off and now i barely manage 5
