- From my library: 80 of the little books, in a box set.
AHHH: In the first few seconds, I mentioned that I did a video comparing these books with the Penguin Modern Classics series. That's not true. The other video was comparing these books with the Penguin Modern series.
A friend surprised me with this box set some years ago, and it was a great way to introduce me to some authors when I was just starting to get into the classics.
What a great collection! I’ll have to check it out. Though I need to check my library and see how many repeats I would be obtaining if I were to purchase this set. I really need to create my own record book of what I already own…
Right, that's why I didn't buy it earlier. I thought, "well, I have a lot these already." Now that I have the set though... I kinda love it.
I got this for 43 dollars in Korea! Very cheap for 80 books, and I enjoyed most of them (Im not quite done with all of them lol)
If the book take pieces of the larger work, are we going to understand it? Like do we know what’s going on in there😂 I was thinking what to buy little black classic or modern classic.
You can understand it. It might be short stories or other writings that are part of collected writings. There are some selections from nonfiction works, and you don't need to know the whole book to understand a chapter.
If its not a full book and just a part of a big work wont it ruin the complete work for me???
I don't think so. They're not one chapter in a novel, which might give away some important part.
It's more like, one short story from a collection of short stories, an essay from a collection of essays, or a chapter from a nonfiction work (like The Voyage of the Beagle). It could be a chapter from The Canterbury Tales or the Divine Comedy, or some of Aesop's fables. None of those are really spoiled by reading a bit out of context.

I am sorry if I sound like an idiot but are the stories abridged version?
They're not abridged at all. They're either chapters pulled out from a longer work (like the chapter from Darwin's Voyage of the Beagle), poems, essays, or whole short stories.
Okay, so what does the box look on the other side? Just plain white?
Mostly, with a quote from someone about something printed on one side.

It's a section of a larger work. It might be a short story (or a few), a section, or a chapter, that's right.
