2:42:36 - If you start all the screws first, then tighten them in a couple steps, you won't have individual screws bind up as badly (usually).
I actually designed and printed a couple tools to put all my links together. It took about 5 minutes, and I realized when I was done that I don't hate assembling links anymore! Thanks for sharing this awesome build!
I bought 2 complete sets of Ryft screws for about $10 on sBay. It was a great move...extra screws are always a good idea.
Finally get to sit down and watch it albeit a little late lol. Awesome video Matt!
When you mentioned the RC back in the day were expensive and were not as good, the first thought that popped in my head was "he must have started out with Tamiya" lol. And you later confirmed it with mention of the Monster Beatle. It's funny - they haven't really changed.
And thanks for sharing this vid. I love building high quality kits, and this RC has been in my wishlist on Tower Hobbies for a bit now. I have been struggling to decide what to build next, and this looked like a LOT of fun! In da cart!
Got rtr bomber an love it rift kit just got here my first time building a kit.here i go
I'm 62, which is 32 with 30 years experience. Bio Freeze is your friend, roll on container, it's not greasy or strong smelling ☺️!!!
Just got the kit the other day and I know I'm a day late but thanks to you and others. I've got some ideas to make it more realistic. The running video was awesome Matt!!
Thanks for watching and glad that I gave you some ideas!
I added 10k weight shock oil to my shocks once.. because why not.. used my shock pump to remove air from that.. Took maybe 20 attempts to get all the air out of those things due to the viscosity.. I cant imagine trying to do that with that Diff oil. Great video sofar, as always!
Matt, I put a RX8 and Tekin 550 HD 412 Roc, then put Vanquish axles. It's an animal 😀
I used a sanding block that's a T shaped with 2" wide adhesive grit wet\ dry paper. There 6"" and 12" long made for shaping airplane parts. Work great, then use a Tekin 440 steering servo and the HD ceramic bearing!
Legend 👌 I followed right from the start and got my kit done watching only you didn’t bother reading my book lol following you was way easier then the book haha 👌
i writing as im watching the build. i ordered one of these and its spoze to be here today. really excited. never had a rock crawler (hopper)? im enjoying this as much as you are... this is a slow down from what i usually do. new and exciting things.. Im watching the hard part of it. and see how to do it so i dont have to fight it. lol
Hope you enjoy it! Good luck with the build!
I know I'm late to the party but I just bought my kit this weekend. "Black Friday 2022" great price 250$ epic build right here thanks for the info. I'll be checking your other vids for sure.
Great deal! Have a great time with it!
For the Record, when I bought my RYFT I also had an SCX10 III planned, as well as 2 more SCX24's (have the lexans and some upgrades already waiting). But after the RYFT I cancelled All Axial purchases in 2021. I went with A VS4-10 Ultra instead (better choice anyway). My VS4-10 arriving this weekend as well as the electronics and some accessories. If the Part Problem availability Problem persists, I may add 2022 to my NO Axial Purchases. The only Money Horizon is getting from me will be TRYING to get my GRYFT working again. I just hit RC Club Pro 3/30/2021 at Horizion, at least I get a tiny savings on my GRYFT parts.
Very Nice Build 😁💯👍 Dyeing the cage was a neat trick and Turned out Great ✌🤠👍
The Kentucky sky is actually gray!!! 😂😂😂😂
Looks awesome Matt, can't wait for the running video.
Good for you...I took my time, days even.
Now that I watched the Entire 4-1/2 hour build I feel I earned the right to buy the RTR version.
Did you buy it?
I did not use the hokey brake parts. Vented the tires & wheels. Also, cut down the foams. Looked like the foams where in the wheels a long time. All discolored. Difficult getting the foams out. Also clipped off some lugs from the tires. Glued the wheels...
Very cool!
Hi from Globe Arizona ! Love your videos !
Great content! Im looking into this kit as i finish this video! I enjoy building myself, i did a trx 4 chassis kit not long ago and loved it!
Go for it!
43:30 tiny screws are for steering limit stops
Glass does not actually sag, that theory about the glass in that super old church settling and becoming thicker at the bottom is incorrect. It was designed like that. Glass is a solid.
The blue looks good. It fits that vehicle...
Stunning build buddy 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for watching!
You should have used the "FORCE" with that bearing Obie One. 😁
😂
I put a Vanquish axle in it! Monster
Try using TGH in your DeWalt
When dealing with heavy oil you should warm it (hot glass of water) before it's in the diff.
And be careful when using an electric screwdriver when working on the diff screws. You can easily over heat the place and that screw hole is gone for good.
That's why I have an adjustment for the torque on the driver. It's also an 8V, so I'm not over-torqueing. Thanks for the tips.
@@scalebuildersguild
It's not a matter of tork (well, also but that's not the issue). It's a matter of speed, when the screw turns to fast it generates heat which in turns melt the threads (just a little bit... But that's enough)
those "cheaper" electric screwdrivers (which I like and adore) doesn't usually have fine trigger control... You probably got only two options for speed and even the slowest one is quite fast.
@@tomereitan the DeWalt 8v is a gyroscopic drill and has extremely fine control.
@@scalebuildersguild
I'll search it up. Makita doesn't have that feature in their parallel model.
Thanks for the tip 🙂
Yeti is a great basher!
I'm using same motor, kit everything, did you have any issues with the LR lower link being pinched by motor?
If u have a stainless steel sink just boil some water and pour in plenty of room for large parts
You need the tool Josh used on the rod ends. 😁
20 million weight? That's like, molasses in the wintertime at the north pole 🤣
Can I ask, I’m looking at the part numbers in the manual while you are working. A lot of them are TLR and LOS are they Losi parts?
Is that thing HUGE or are you 4'2"... How does it compare to your Yeti?
What would you say is the best bang for buck motor/esc for the ryft? Looking to bounce but not rocket to the moon. Lol
Looks good !
A roasting pan or a turkey pan would have been ideal for that but giving your color scheme I think you can get away with what you got.
Hey bud would a hobbywing max10 combo on 3s work in this truck..just got the kit don't have another 200 for power
Hey man I just got my build started it yesterday…..
That's great! Have fun!
Nice build, Matt! I really hope it does better than the RTR Ryft that John Holmes reviewed on his channel... haha :D
I hope so too!
If they were only bigger. Like 1/8 or 1/7 scale, I would get one.
Bigger?! This is pretty darn big once assembled! 15" wheelbase!
58:23 bro hitting it hard ...
I can feel my hands getting older also my elbows were hurting after running the weed eater for 30 min
so far this is very enlighten and a great video for the Ryft. So i just wanna ask. im still kinda new. I have a spare 2050kv motor. can i just buy a 130amp ESC to pair with it on my Ryft?
i also have spare remote SLT-3. could i buy a Spektrum SR215 2-Channel? with 2 speed would i need the Spektrum SR515 5-Channel for the 2 speed tranny. and open later for maybe lights later? love to here your thoughts. thank for the video and im sure i will enjoy my Ryft.
Sounds like that motor could work, check the specs and such before installing. For the two speed, you'd need a receiver with a minimum of three channels.
I need your knowledge. I've decided to go full crawler with my Ryft kit and install the Stealth X trans with the full front overdrive ratio with a Fusion Pro 2300kv going out to Vanquish lockers with Incision gears. What tooth choices would you consider for the spur and pinion? Oh and I'm also using the Bowhouse spur adapter to run 32p. Thanks in advance.
Can't say I'm an expert on making the Ryft a crawler, but you'll want to go with a smaller pinion than stock, that's for sure!
@Scale Builder's Guild thanks. I ordered a 32p 60t spur gear and 11t and 12t pinion gears. Guess I'll start there. My buddies think I'm crazy for trying to make a crawler out of it, but I love the looks of it.
I just ordered a Ryft kit and I’m looking to make it into strictly a crawler so do I need to order 2 more of those spools to lock all 3 diffs?
Yep! Only comes with one locker!
Do you know if there is room for the Hobbywing Fusion 2 in 1 in the Ryft?
There probably is, but that’s not nearly enough power for this platform.
You need a pot from a turkey fryer in order to fit the entire cage
What servo are you using for the 2speed
Stock electronics from the RTR. Thanks for watching!
Hey would a 3900kv be to much for the ryft.
Yes.
What temp do you think you boiled the frame at ?
Ryft looks great and cant wait for some running video
I heated the water/dye mixture to about 175F
Where can you get the stl files for that link building tool? It's 3d printed, yes? I couldn't quite make out the name. Tried searching for it.
Thanks for the entertaining build video :)
Sczcerba Tool.
@@scalebuildersguild super thanks for your quick reply
Hello man
Nice rig. Do you think it could make a good crawler?
You'd need to gear it down significantly, but it could be done!
did the kit come with 3 spools if you want too lock the 3 diffs??
No just one
What DeWalt driver are you using...Please and Thank you!
8v Gyro.
Maybe a noob question but hey I'm an effing noob... so why does no one rtv trans housings and lube the hell out of em? Talking as a guy with an automotive background.
I don’t think it’s required at this scale.
what Steering Servo, ESC and Motor, Micro Metal Gear Servo have you used for your build thanks
I think I covered it in the video, no?
@@scalebuildersguild i think you just forgot to mention which esc you used ,thanks
@@markmilward8742 he mentioned it and it's clearly a spektrum 130a
Would ever design the servo saver is evil
u mite want to bind it before putting the cage on there
It’s as simple as dropping the skid. Not a big deal.
You could have used a crock pot to dye the cage ;)
That would require having one of those large enough.
@@scalebuildersguild after seeing how big this is, I dunno if I do either lol.
I have to Admit I am disappointed in you for even presenting this Nightmare RC to unsuspecting Victims. This is the kind of FAN BOY Shite that usually makes me unsub from channels, sorry Matt but I have to be honest where it is warranted, My GRYFT has sat idle for 2 weeks now because the Diffs have failed and there are no replacement parts and no locker spools. With Initial purchase I am at+2K with upgrades and I still can't drive it. Only because i value the information I get from your other videos I am giving you a pass on this Mistake.
Yeah, Josh did an RTR video. but that was way before anyone had an idea just what a Nightmare it is.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion. I pride myself on my fair and honest approach to everything on this channel. I don't have the RTR, nor any experience with the Ryft beyond building this kit, so I'll reserve my judgement on the durability and driving experience until I've actually had some time with it. Sorry your experience has been so negative.
