This story reminds me of a time when I was playing at a public golf course on a perfect summer day, and I was lucky enough to be paired with two women my age who could swing well and were nice to look at as well. I finished the front around even par, which was a good nine for me, and we get to the 10th tee, and we're told that a 4th will be joining us. The guy turns out to be a nightmare---talking constantly, giving me advice, etc. My game went to smash, and the thread with the ladies was lost. I was angry at myself for letting this guy get to me, but anyone who plays knows how disconcerting it can be when a new player is introduced to your group, mid-round. Don't be that guy.

Thats a good story like lannys story you dont come up to two guys and say im joining you for only the last 4 holes without even asking you dont do that. In the past when someones asked to join me and a friend of mine ive said im sorry but we havent seen each other in a long time and we would prefer to be just as too.

    Ben Hogan, the LEGEND!!!
Can you imagine playing a round of golf with that MAN, I’m not convinced I would be able to stay standing up!

Tom Watson and Lanny played a round where Watson was spraying his drives all over the course. Lanny loaned Watson his back up driver. Watson won all 8 of his majors with that driver.

Is that really true? Given how driver tech changed throughout Tom's career that would be utterly amazing if true

      A Toney Penna Mod1 driver.
Watson also holed his chip from the back of 17 at Pebble Beech with a 1958 Wilson Dynapowered wedge "borrowed" from David Graham.
Moral of the tale? Watch your clubs when Tom comes to visit!

The late Ken Venturi said Hogan had the best course strategy but Nelson was the better ball striker, he should know he played with both many times.

I can believe it. That 45 year when he won 18 times he also averaged 68. He kind of invented the modern swing with steel shafts. I don't really like Hogan's it's too flat. He made it work, sort of like Trevino, by endless practice. Snead had the best natural swing of that generation.

    • @patrickmorgan4006

Then he should have driven up, apologized for intruding, and explained that the course marker requested that he join the group. That would have gone over much better than what occurred in the story. There is such a thing as good manners.

@@jordan19862000 I agree it's extreme but I don't see the problem of slow play going away. Every where I go there 20 handicappers who act like they're on the PGA tour before they send another slice into no man's land. Something needs to wake these slow players up.
