well actually its because carpet bomber is being used which is much less effective for tankier targets the autocannon would normally tear through at a decent rate☝️🤓 splintering shells is a more flexible alternative that suits the gunner's role better while still maintaining very solid aoe on squishier targets

fear feels like a weird thing to put on a splash damage weapon to me; it causes enemies to seperate themselves in such a way that hinders your damage per shot and requires them to come around on a second pass through. not that CC is unimportant; but i feel like if it were a stun instead it'd be a little less counterintuitive.
Decided I'd run CB for a while so that I'm up to speed on it. So far I'm favoring the 10% damage and letting my secondary handle the cc effects. I'll swap to fear for a while see how it goes. I'm thinking it'll be better on a team you can use fear to protect them but I already know from experience how much it kills my damage output. I love cc but at a point the enemy needs to just die so you can move on
Yeah, only having a fear mod for CC really hurts the autocannon as a weapon. It's... actively bad for killing power, but (as seen in the video) the autocannon is so bad at actually killing anything tankier than a normal grunt that it's practically necessary for self defense.
@@pvewaste Autocannon needs a rework. Neurotoxin payload is the only viable (but actually great) load out. I wish off meta loadouts weren't so much worse than the meta stuff. I'd love to see some increased build diversity in a co-op game.
When you resupply is there any reason you're switching between your weapons? Are you just checking ammo for both of your primary and secondary? How much faster is animation cancelling your pickaxe while mining? Thank you
Both are just habits that don't actually do anything. Sometimes I'll switch to shields or something to check, but generally I have a mental meter of all my weapon ammo at all times, so the rapid switching is just for fun. Pickaxe cancelling is theoretically ever so slightly faster, but in practice if you miss a single one it's significantly slower. I find it more fun though.
Carpet Bomber is incredibly painful for me to watch to this day. I personally believe it's the worst option for the autocannon outside of solo, but even in solo, it's definitely locked in a hyper focused dense cc role to the point it can't really deal with targets gunner normally excels at taking out. The autocannon is my favorite primary for gunner because I just like weird clunky weapons that no one else seems to take interest in haha. Its damage, although not always as potent as gunner's alternative primary weapons, is still at the very least serviceable even if built poorly while using a better overclock. Carpet Bomber just isn't something that suits gunner in a lot of situations, due to its greatly hindered ability to shred tanks. On top of this, Splintering Shells is a better direct alternative since the grunt killing on Carpet Bomber (at least currently) is definitely overkill, and with SS you can more effectively combine your direct damage and AoE to spread damage more efficiently, and more evenly kill grunt packs and healthier targets simultaneously. Running AB also works a lot more when you have direct damage, which makes killing guards and other armored threats much cleaner. At the end of the day, I'm not all that experienced, and the highest difficulty I ran thunderhead on is Haz 5a, and even with double toughness, it felt satisfying to me. I think it's definitely valid to criticize the autocannon, though I often find these criticisms to be hyperbolic, so I thought I'd give my perspective. :^)
@@hokuhikene because I would've died a quick and miserable death in this game otherwise - there are too many moments to count where I'm completely unable to kill anything before it reaches me and fear spam is the only thing that keeps me safe.
not to come off as dismissive of it, but its a bit of a large step towards being considered cheat-y. a mod such as that sizably impacts the way you play the game in a way that a lot of people wouldn't like. most people would like to keep the gameplay loop the same as it is; and then pick mods that add QOL without feeling like they alter it. of course, that comes down a lot based on what you consider the "gameplay loop" to even be. if you ask me personally, managing awareness and visibility is a very integral and unique part of the game.

i find it funny how those giant rounds from the autocannon cant even kill a fester flea in one shot yet the rounds from scout's M1000 can
All .30-06 rounds were individually blessed by Christ himself. It's part of the manufacturing process.

I wish there was a balanced oc for the autocannon that just gave it +220 max ammo +1,5 seconds longer reload time.
