Fun fact about Robocop. The originally written script was rejected due to the fact that the movie was so violent, they gave it an NC-17 rating which meant the movie would only be shown in the night time if at all when adults could be see it. This in turn would mean that the movie would never garner the real money it was meant to make. A lot of the violent content originally scripted for the screenplay had to be removed (and the movie edited for runtime) to give it an "R" rating so that it could actually be viewed in theatres. That in turn was the only reason it was ever allowed in theatres. Of course, when it came to releasing the movie on DVD and Blu-Ray years later, they could resurrect a lot of the content that was cut from the theatrical release and include it for an "Unrated" version the movie viewers wouldn't be able to see originally in theatres.
Nice summary, but it sounds like the original cut, not the original script, was rejected. in other words, they shot it all, but only made it available in the unrated (x-rated?) version. It wasn't all that much, though. A woman without a top and then an animatronic shot of Murphy during his death scene.

I initially wasn't big at all on the Corporate Wars script when I read it for the first time. But this video helped me understand it a little better and now I think it would have ultimately been a much more interesting sequel than the RoboCop 2 we eventually got. And it is really said that Blomkamp's RoboCop Returns didn't happen because he actually had passion for the character and for the franchise. Unlike Jose Padila and the writers of the remake. *FUN FACT* Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally going to play the title role in RoboCop (1987), but problems with the costume caused producers to drop the idea. After Schwarzenegger saw "RoboCop", he said that he loved the movie and wanted to work with director Paul Verhoeven. When he and Verhoeven heard about "Total Recall", they decided to work on that.
Only just at the part where you mentioned Bixby - that was the "I'll buy that for a dollar!" guy! Sorry if you mention it later in the video, but he must have been really old 25 years after Robocop...
Thank you for the insight into the "what could have been": looking at the creative process that made 1987 feature what it is (along with sequels and the 2014 episode) I wasn't aware of a short-lived TV Series. I like the subtitle "The Last Stand", as there were more stories to tell - look at the 007 movies for example - overcoming enemies, allows an ongoing process where different ideas came about, too bad studio executives, script writers and box office results et al varied through different years. I think 2014 feature is a decent attempt to regain interest to a cult/iconic movie - one that more than deserves a sequel - let's hope it happens.
I hate how blomkamp keeps getting screwed over. He is amazing and deserves the chance to make a decent robocop movie. He got screwed over with a new Aliens movie. He has so many great ideas but no one wants to take a chance and they make shite instead.
Robocop 87 is a masterpiece. Even after all these years it’s a top 5 science fiction film. But how do you follow it up? What story do you tell? What direction do you go? I think the 2014 reboot (which I believe gets an unfair shake because it’s compared to the original without allowing it to stand on its own) had the answer. While Murphy’s humanity and soul was dormant in the original, Murphy was aware from the very beginning in the remake. That contrast really worked. But as far as a sequel. I think that’s asking the impossible. What if the best thing to do with Murphy is to leave him alone?
Im sorry, but that reboot was just a terrible movie. Robocop in that movie doesn't move or act like robocop would. The cgi was horrendous, the story was bad, the action was not right. It was a bad movie.
@@davidjames579 : Total Recall and Basic Instinct clearly show his versatility - as the two features have two different storylines entirely - James Cameron (True Lies, The Terminator) comes close.
@@anthonylewis2080 I love how he literally took a look at Hollywood Genre Movies and said they think they're OTT, I'll really show them. Which I've heard with Robocop really was his thought process.

Technically the 2014 remake turned a loss, which was not surprising, it was boring as heck! Hopefully a new RoboCop movie will be done right, after so much bad has happened to the character.

this episode was too good. The storylines were all exceptional yet not cookie cutter faire. Unfortunately like the rest of these videos Hollywood is only keen on small budgets and big returns, sadly limiting the scope of all their plots thank you for this latest edition to the vault of priceless cinema that never was.
Great video. I’d rather have a continuation of the 2013 reboot or another remake rather than a mangled fan film sequel trying to be something it can’t from the 80’s. I would never want a prequel without Robocop. Why do studios always want to do this? It’d be cool to do a dual reboot Robocop vs The Terminator.
Considering the massive success that spiderman no way home got it would be a no brainer to bring the OG robocop back in one form or another. Esp since other IPs have gone down the nostalgia route.
Great documentary. Would be cool to see a new Robocop film soon. It's amazing how many times projects stall and don't happen. I'm glad Robocop 2014 happened as a fan of the original series. I do like the original silver armor, but also liked the black armor/red visor too.
I loved the new design for Robocop 2014, BUT I preferred the original silver color. THAT portion in China with the combination was a fucking badass look, best Robocop ever.
They should make a ROBOCOP movie that comes out when the Gordie Howe bridge is complete and it should be a story that takes place in Detroit and Windsor.... This is an amazing franchise and it's cool it takes place in a prominent U.S. city rarely shown on screen!

And we also never got a RoboCop vs. The Terminator feature film. It was originally a 4-issue comic book, then it was made into 2 video games and that's about it.
A good video for this channel could be about that third Predator movie that never happened. It was supposed be set in the 17th century. I don't know if there was a script for it already done but there's a comic book about it.
Robocop is my favorite movie of all time but I think its a product of its time. It wouldnt work in any other time period but the 80s no matter how much you revamp it. The 2014 remake was a very POOR attempt and it failed miserably. I bet this new iteration will fail too if it ever takes off...
The whole shoot em up/criminal aspect only slightly masked the true message about corporatism, market greed and technology. Corporate Wars also sounds tremendous.
Scrapping Blomkamp out of Robocop sequel was the worst mistake they could do since Robocop 2 and 3 and the remake. Without Blomkamp and Peter Weller its a recipe for a mediocre R13 movie.
A Robocop vs Terminator would be awesome and long overdo we already have had Freddy vs Jason, Alien vs Predator but not Robocop vs Terminator on screen except on comic.
corporate wars would make fur a good movie, even a game set in this timeline would be wicked if done correctly, I got a very strong judge dredd with the whole megacitys and the way how the law works , and also ghost in the shell, I'd love to see this
Why don’t they make a movie with Murphy’s brains in the Robocain armor where he needs to fight an army of ED209’s and criminals using Cobra assault canons .
I told Frank Miller in December of 2021 that I know there were complications back then. Now a small movie company known as StudioCanal & 20th Century FOX does currently own both Movie Franchises. So it does look like it can be Legally possible to make something like that...even though it may cost 150 million to make in this day & age.
There were lots of good ideas being tossed around, some just needed some fine tuning.I would be interested in shooting robocop. in hamilton and Toronto . provided the right script was there. Its gotta be dark and gloomy with some good one liners "freeze punk! " or "Don't move puke .. its time to clean up the mess". Swartsinegger and Eastwood were great for that.
I'm going to see Peter Weller in Dallas in June 2023. He spends a lot of time down here in Texas its where he grew up. Its where both Robocops where made that he starred in im going to beg him to do it. If Harrison Ford can do Indiana Jones at 80 he can do robocop
How did people grow up with films like this only to now somehow see Gentrification as a good thing? It is wonderful if you're rich and can pay 2000 a month rent vs the 450 - 900 it was before, But now toes people cannot pay , NYC has 4 5 people living in 1 room due to Gentrification who do have money and are not poor , so it is starting to hurt everyone.
This is huge challenge for any filmmaker/filmmakers to tackle. The original is such an excellent one off, and it has one of the all-time great endings, and last lines, that to try and continue the story feels strange. Robocop 2 is probably closest to the spirit of the first one, but the others get further away from it. Trying to wrap my mind around concepts for a possible sequel and tick all the boxes of what made the original a success is real tough problem to solve in terms of movie making. When it really comes down to it, I don't really know if "I would buy that for a dollar!"
The reboot version of the original robocop seriously sucked You can’t kill Alex Murphy twice over If the robocop franchise would have been as successful as the fast and the furious 1-10 etc then things would be different Shalom Dove of peace 🕊
Frank Miller's RoboCop Vs Terminator could be a sequel to RoboCop and you wouldn't need Arnie or Peter Weller. The three terminators sent back to protect RoboCop is a dark hair guy a blonde woman and a ten year old boy. Frank Miller understands the concept of a infiltration unit better James Cameron. As Frank Miller writes "John Connor Leads a worldwide resistance" that means people from all over the world and the terminators must reflect the different nationalities of the resistance in order to blend in and infiltrate the resistance
Didn't they also make a Sequel Trilogy taking place after the Third Film starting with Robocop Meltdown, about Robocop Looking for his son or something and at the same time his Boss Turning in to a Robocop as well, but he was called Cable or something? I don't know it was a real long time ago
So tired of Aronofsky and Blonkamp's name used for movies that will never get made . Hey Neil make district 10 . As a kid and still to this day Robocop is one of my favorite movies , but without Verhoeven it has no possibility of being good.
It sucks the studio just allowed this project to die. Robocop Returns with Peter Weller could have been like Batman Returns. A real shame they let it die
I really loved the first 2 movies. In my opinion they're equally fun and entertaining. I've grown wary of reboots lately. Always disappointed. I'd love to see Blomkamp's ideas on screen, I think he's extremely talented and would be perfect for the Robocop franchise, but it seems like he always bails (or gets shafted) when making reboots or sequels.

I absolutely love 80s movies...Robocop is a masterpiece
The whole Paul Verhoeven sci-fi movies trilogy is a fuckin jewel
Verhoeven. Brilliant film-maker, fantastic guy.
I always felt that that RoboCop 2 was a pretty good follow-up, and like Predator 2, woefully underrated. Sadly, that was the LAST thing w/ 'RoboCop' in the name, that was any damned good at all!
Except for 'My RoboCop' remake.
I agree. I thought the Cain cyborg was an excellent baddie, and the final fight was really well done, and enjoyable!
@@shepchester3567 Always loved the design of that Cain cyborg.
"Aronofsky's take... was set 3000 years in the future" - Hey, who's watching this in 5021? 😀
It would've have been an artsy fartsy abstract sci-fi film!
Technically the 2014 remake turned a loss, which was not surprising, it was boring as heck!
Hopefully a new RoboCop movie will be done right, after so much bad has happened to the character.
it was i nearly turned it off, when i 1st watched it, it was that bad.
@@procta2343 Watch Pedilha's Elite Squad movies becausee they show what he can do with this kind of film. He was hired for Robocop based off that, then they neutered him. He signed on to make it R rated.
Robocop old type is the original sci-fi dystopian-thriller film and or motion picture have got inspired from the same marvel character who is a guardian like-avenger. It would have got it's next sequel where they crossover another sci-fi like character.
It had its slow times, but I liked it.
Robocop 2 didn't deserve the hate it got, and the TV Series, while cartoony, was still good.
I haven’t watched the video yet, but I once had a conversation with
Ed Neumeier who told me that Darren Aronofsky’s version was in the post-apocalypse, and there were multiple Robocops around the world that were like war lords. It’s been a while since he told me this, so I may have it a bit off. I wonder if it’ll be covered!
Why are the unproduced versions almost always more intriguing than what we end up with?
Money the movies that don't get made would have huge budgets so they don't get made
..and the Studios want it to "play safe". "Do more of the same, it'll get (at least the same) money"
I think it's also because we just have the potential not the finished product, a script if just the first part of the film making process.
I absolutely love your work. You present well researched, informative and interesting topics in a very easy to digest, nicely paced rolling sequence. You obviously put a lot of time and effort into the script and it really shows. Also the visuals are spot on for what's being talked about... That must take some work.
Am loving your channel and one if my absolute favourites. Keep up the good work mate!
Your taking the time to watch the stuff is super appreciated!
@@SupervoidCinema absolutely welcome my British friend, I am just across the water from you in Dublin. Make a Patreon. I guarantee you will do well. I never donated before but I just checked do you have one because I wanted to! I'm watching the Flyby video now, and I've read that script many times and seen all the concept art and articles etc....same with Year One... But your videos have enriched and enhanced my knowledge of those projects because you go the extra mile and again, I must say how effortlessly your script flows. I edit, rewrite, proof read, fix up stuff for a living and I've a degree in English so your script stands out to me. The visuals are absolutely incredible too, but from all these type of videos you shine with your research and script. It's not easy to deliver complex information like that, from many sources, as well as you do.
I don't watch many videos more than once but your stuff is definitely getting replays!
Sorry for the essay mate but 👍 and can't wait to see your channel grow and get to the top where it belongs.
@@mccarthy5825 Cheers mucker! Hopefully the Flyby vid doesn't have too many ads, that one got copyright claimed.
@@SupervoidCinema that's the minefield I can't fathom and am so pissed off about. Creators are absolutely and utterly in complete ownership of their work if it is like yours. But some corporate entity still wants to milk money from clips from a show or something that hasn't been on TV in 25 years! It's mental. I do regularly use BitChute and all but i totally get it YT is the BBC 1 of channels! BitChute is barely Dave 2+1! 😂 (I know you will get that!) you are sort of stuck...
Well listen, without a doubt you learn something new from every video you produce and feedback or copyright claim you get so I'm confident that you will get around that bullshit.
Can't wait to see what you come up with next. I'm a huge mad max fan and was recently re reading the script for FR...you know the one with the drawings in it... And the failed attempts at FR but its not really that meaty... Maybe if this Furiosa prequel doesn't get made then there be something.
Dune of course could warrant a whole series. Sure the documentary Jodorowskis Dune (I met him briefly in a bar in Paris)... What made me think of that was the big rolling Harkonnen fortress that looks like a fat blob man whose arms are the drawbridge (mojo from xmen think) well you SEE that in the scan they do of the structure in Prometheus... There's connective tissue from Dune, to Star Beast script, to Alien and right back to Ridley Scott again. Then of course Jodorowskis sequel to El Topo and failed Abel/Cain project... His King Shot film... Or how about Terry Gilliams Don Quixote film?again I am rambling so I will stfu and say all the best mate and looking forward to next video! 😂
@@SupervoidCinema will you do a video of the cancelled movie of transformers 6 ?
Niell Blomkamp just can't catch a break. His movies just keep getting cancelled. After Alien and Robocop, I can't imagine he has much faith in the Hollywood system.
I'm glad the second movie is what we got after hearing that script!
Original is still my favourite movie of all time
Untouchable
Was always holding out hope they’d bring weller back
If it weren't for your video, I wouldn't have known about the gorgeous comics. Now I'm desperately looking to purchase them online. The artwork is absolutely awesome and detailed and the plot is so much cooler than stupid studio mentality. Thanks so much!
Man, that original idea for the Robocop sequel sounds like it would have been awesome. I'll never understand Hollywood.
"You just made us a load of money. Make us more" "We can't, our union won't let us at the moment. And also Ethical Reasons" "You're fired"
I cannot wait to see the Next New RoboCop Movie! How cool! It is going to be based on the original classic version of the movie! I have been a RoboCop Classic Fan since my earlier childhood years!
this episode was too good. The storylines were all exceptional yet not cookie cutter faire. Unfortunately like the rest of these videos Hollywood is only keen on small budgets and big returns, sadly limiting the scope of all their plots thank you for this latest edition to the vault of priceless cinema that never was.
Agreed, I wish I was a billionaire to give these projects a blank check.
You didn't mention prime directives. Really underrated, the plot got really stupid half way through but I enjoyed it.
Loved the video , great job on it man .
Hey, appreciate you watching!
Great documentary. It's always a pleasure to watch.
Bixby Snyder is the President:
"A future you can buy for a dollar!"
A crude TV Star becomes President. That would never happen.
In the end, we got RoboCop Rogue City…and it was surprisingly good as a largely faithful video game adaptation. 😳
"The Corporate Wars" reminds me of Outland and interesting how parts of it were used in the cartoons and the Canadian live action series.
They are making a video game set after Robocop 3 and Weller is voicing Robo
I'd buy that for a dollar.
Man, the real Robocop 2 is already written. Why Hollywood don't just film it ?
Amazing content, thank you. 🤙🏻
The original Robocop 2 sounds like the greatest movie never made.
They predicted Detroit correctly.
Corporate Wars sounds FUCKING DOPE
A love this Channel
I'm still waiting for the day a Terminator vs Robocop movie can be a thing.
The game of sega genesis was 1 my favourite game of all time I’m 32 was seen from 1990 nes 8 bit and before to ps5 it’s still up there man.Loved first stage against terminator 1 arnie and fight big robobot cop from 2 the movie
@@pantherhd1 , what about the comic written by Frank Miller?
@@osmanyousif7849 I have not seen comic osman but search it up online before I start work sound interesting.if was a film let’s hope not like freddy vs jason
The first robocop is a real movie it feels so deep and detailed . The reboot seems like a lame TV episode fever dream
3 years later and Robocop still is looking for a director
And we also never got a RoboCop vs. The Terminator feature film. It was originally a 4-issue comic book, then it was made into 2 video games and that's about it.
A good video for this channel could be about that third Predator movie that never happened. It was supposed be set in the 17th century. I don't know if there was a script for it already done but there's a comic book about it.
There's a version being filmed right now
@@TroyUlysses Set during The Civil War.
I can't believe that we don't have a Robocop vs Terminator movie
I know, I grew up on that game.
Robocop is my favorite movie of all time but I think its a product of its time. It wouldnt work in any other time period but the 80s no matter how much you revamp it. The 2014 remake was a very POOR attempt and it failed miserably. I bet this new iteration will fail too if it ever takes off...
Cracking video. We need robo in our lives
Correct Me if Wrong...But wasn't there a Film in Discussion Based on the Highly Popular Comic Terminator vs RoboCop??
I hope the new Robocop game coming out next year doesn't suck
A Robocop vs Terminator would be awesome and long overdo we already have had Freddy vs Jason, Alien vs Predator but not Robocop vs Terminator on screen except on comic.
2014 Robocop sucked almost as bad as 2016's Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters? More like Ghostfuckers aye
corporate wars would make fur a good movie, even a game set in this timeline would be wicked if done correctly, I got a very strong judge dredd with the whole megacitys and the way how the law works , and also ghost in the shell, I'd love to see this
Why don’t they make a movie with Murphy’s brains in the Robocain armor where he needs to fight an army of ED209’s and criminals using Cobra assault canons .
Good question, I'd enjoy that for sure!
I would love to see Robocop vs Terminator movie adaption by these mentioned directors.
I was very excited about the Blomkamp movie.
I'm going to see Peter Weller in Dallas in June 2023. He spends a lot of time down here in Texas its where he grew up. Its where both Robocops where made that he starred in im going to beg him to do it. If Harrison Ford can do Indiana Jones at 80 he can do robocop
Robocop was epic in 87, still remember seeing it then.
Sick of getting my hopes up for my childhood fave films but I hope they do a decent job on this new film
The Corporate Wars would've been great to watch.
Finally someone talking about Aronofsky's reboot
Well the 2014 should be one of those robocop movies that should have been canceld
Robocop 1987 is a masterpiece Verehoven is a awesome director the story is perfect aswell as emotional it's a perfect movie
Id like to see a Robocop vs terminator movie
Its a shame because we ended up getting that horrible remake
I want to see Robocop with more awesome weapons again. 👍
The reboot version of the original robocop seriously sucked
You can’t kill Alex Murphy twice over
If the robocop franchise would have been as successful as the fast and the furious 1-10 etc then things would be different
Shalom
Dove of peace 🕊
Half man, half cop. All robot.
Your thinking of Robocop:Prime Directives
The first movie is still the best imo they nailed the social satire.
So tired of Aronofsky and Blonkamp's name used for movies that will never get made . Hey Neil make district 10 . As a kid and still to this day Robocop is one of my favorite movies , but without Verhoeven it has no possibility of being good.
Would have loved to have seen Blompkamp's take on it. I love the original film but by the time of the reboot I was done with the franchise.
It sucks the studio just allowed this project to die. Robocop Returns with Peter Weller could have been like Batman Returns. A real shame they let it die
I've read millers version of RoboCop 2. It's dreadful! Glad the original writers version wasn't made aswell. Sounds ridiculous

I really loved the first 2 movies. In my opinion they're equally fun and entertaining.
I've grown wary of reboots lately. Always disappointed. I'd love to see Blomkamp's ideas
on screen, I think he's extremely talented and would be perfect for the Robocop franchise,
but it seems like he always bails (or gets shafted) when making reboots or sequels.
Can't wait for the new game!
