As AFK Arena player for years i can confidently say: maximum character ascention was a must have. Not only it limited maximum level of a character but also the amount of stats they gain. Since gear was % of character base stats you need their base to be as high as possible. If i remember corretly, to max out characters stats you needed 18 copies of them and to max their level you needed 8 + fodder copies of lower grade characters. There was also very big diffrence between characters strengh: some were borderline useless everywhere, other ones were op in every gamemode. Game gave a ton of pulls but you needed a ton of units. Lategame was ok at first but later became opposite of afk. There was so much to do that i couldn't keep up and left. Will give Journey a try and see if its any diffrent.
That was the reason I couldn't get into it, despite loving the designs and the overall gameplay. The difficulty curve was STEEP and the portion of the game that looked the most fun (that house decor mode iirc?) was locked to the endgame which I couldn't even get close before giving up anduninstalling. It was demotivating and very, VERY unfriendly towards new players
4:13 I actually have the opposite opinion. I find that if it locks stats behind extra copies, then the extra copies become even more important. Constellations definitely have the their downsides, where some characters feel like they are missing something (in genshin Wriothesley, HuTao, and many 4 stars feel this way for example) but has a much easier time feeling like getting one copy of a unit is actually usable. But that is just my opinion on the matter.
If the system is similar to AFK arena the thing is doable completely F2P tho, in Genshin or HSR saying you'll get a maxed out unit without spending a single cent and without neglecting the rest of the units is impossible. Right before spending for the first time I had so many maxed units with their sets and their furniture. I even had a maxed Athalia (celestial units were extra rare), the game was ridiculously expensive tho, I mean summoners wars levels of expensive so spending never seem like something forced to progress but to get there fast, I was still able to compete with top tier guilds and even be one of the biggest contributors in the guild PVE they had at the time.
@@drekhunterIt is definitely possible to do it good or bad in both ways of doing things, but I see it as far easier to sustain an F2P friendly system with kit modifiers than stat modifiers. There are enough other factors between games to make most any system workable. (equipment, weapons, team synergies, etc) It really just boils down to preference.
@@JDP5127 I think the AFK arena system is a bit friendlier in that reggard, Genshin for example would be hell if it suddenly asked for cons and refinements, there you just have to invest time and eventually you'll catch up not 100% but in my case I was managing my resources good enough to catch up a couple of weeks later with the latest unit. Granted I broke my F2P status buying Joker when his collab came but outside of getting top100 serverwide it was a fair competition and I managed to get first place in a couple of PvP events, the system isn't that hard to sustain. If Genshin or Honkai brought something like that only whales would be up there all the time because the resources given to F2P and even people like me a slighly overweight dolphin aren't enough and the price tag isn't realistic for the average joe.
Such an underrated channel. This man really explained everything thoughtfully and clearly while keeping the flow of the video smooth. Keep it up! I can see being a huge channel very soon. Subscribing
In afk arena you are supposed to have all the meta characters at the ascended tier (almost max level of copies) otherwise you are just stuck on stages. You get a lot of pulls but you also need a lot of pulls to make a character work. They also have celestial and hypogean characters (light/dark factions) and they have very low rates on top of higher costs to pull. The worst part is the awakened hero tier whose rates are even lower and the tickets to pull them can't be bought more than once per shop reset with the free currencies, those heroes are super strong but very whale focused.
old gacha model wherein theres hot sale offers are bound to fail this is no longer the right year where those kinds of gacha has alot of success it is more like quality over transaction quantity nowadays
AFK Arena player here for 5+ years. It started out as one of the most F2P friendly games and rapidly ramped up to one of the most predatory gacha games. That's just typical for Lillith. I am not willing to spend more time and money on yet another Lillith game. This has all the makings of their class cashgrab down the road. No thank you.
From the same devs as Dislyte, huh? Interesting... I really enjoyed Dislyte (though I had to stop playing because of reasons irrelevant to the game itself), so maybe I ought to try this one out as well.
therefore, it's not worth it. You'll spend the start of the game as always, and it will soon escalate into a massive pay wall to win, since you'll need to top chars later on. It's been like this with AFK arena, I expect nothing less from this. Therefore, no, thank you. The game looks great, but since it sticks with an unberable gatcha formula in the late game, I will forget this one.

Interesting video, didn't expect it, but I'm here for it. Definitely will consider playing it
I would definitely look forward to a beginners guide from you for this game

The graphics are rly cool but game feels kinda boring to me
Everyone should ignore products from developers that do obnoxious mass marketing campaigns.
😂😂😂
5:49 now we're talking
Honestly I hate afk rpg genre, I tried, really tried, but it's too boring for me.
the link doesn’t open for me
Is it in portrait or landscape? Or both??
Portrait on mobile and there's a landscape option in pc iirc
Do heroes only have one skill?
DIFFERENT???
NOOOOOOO lol
therefore, it's not worth it.

I mean all gacha games are like this man
AFK journey is just me playing League.
its a walking simulator so I'm going to say no it's not worth playing. since it plays its self.
Ok this looks awful. I've been playing afk arena since 2019. Lilith is a multi billion dollar company. I had higher expectations.
Wait they made dislyte??? OH LORD OH GOD NO.... dislytes gacha was so awful- I fear for this game LOL
No it has the gacha system for AFK Arena, the best system I would say
very skippable
lol
