Love that The Substance and The Apprentice are being truly recognized and hopefully will be nominated.. i am happy for seeing Anora doing well especially for Mikey and the two supporting actors.

I’m a Canadian and I absolutely loved the apprentice. Performances were incredible, it showed a different side of Trump than what most people know him for today. It had the really great nostalgic feeling of late 80s and early 90s. I’m no fan of Donald Trump, but I could watch this movie over and over again. Roy Cohen is such a fascinating person, and a look at his relationship with Donald Trump was so interesting. I thought it was a great movie definitely in my top 5

@@bliss66 Actually, now we have the SAG noms, I kind of think Pamela Anderson will be nominated for The Last Showgirl. Think about it, her film got 2 noms at SAG. For the past 10 years, 66 films have gotten 2 or more noms there, and only 4 of them didn’t get an Oscar nom for acting - House of Gucci, 5 Bloods, Big Sick and Beasts of No Nation. Furthermore, since 2000, 21 films have gotten an Actress/Sup.Actress combo at SAG, 17 of them got both actors nominated at the Academy Awards; those which didn’t were Hillbilly Elegy, Black Swan, Thirteen and Bombshell (even though Theron and Robbie got in) - still, all 21 films had one of the actors nominated. When you look at it like that, the picture you see is that The Last Showgirl can become a Nyad of sorts at the Academy Awards. Curtis can get in at Bafta still, and Anderson got the exact same package Bening had last year. It’s a very odd year; anything can happen, so why not Anderson for Best Actress. Even if you don’t think she’ll get in, the odds are looking great for Curtis!
You mentioned BAFTA and a possible nomination for Angelina Jolie in your previous video and I didn't get around to posting that I didn't think that was going to happen and here's why: The British are funny about Maria Callas. When Terence McNally's play Master Class opened in the West End with Patti LuPone as Callas it got bad reviews and closed pretty quickly, which was surprising for a bonafide Broadway hit that had won not just a Tony for Best Play but also a Pulitzer Prize. The reason? The reviewers said, "Well, it's amusing enough but we have no idea who this woman strutting around the stage is supposed to be but she's not Maria Callas." Callas was quite a figure in the decades-long period of just BBC television; the British establishment has a clear idea of who she was and is very protective of her artistic legacy. Also, I think it might be payback for Spencer. Also, glad to see The Substance is doing so well thus far on the longlists, it's not surprising because it's a great film but also, as noted, with Working Title's involvement, a British film and a legitimate hit at the global box office.
Sound like Denzel Washington might finally get nominated at the BAFTAs this year! If he gets Oscar nominated, he will join Sir Laurence Olivier and Jack Nicholson as only the 3rd ever male actor to get 10 acting Oscar nominations.
I don’t think he’s getting in for Gladiator 2. I believe 100% that he was by FAR the best thing about it, but can he get in for a movie that has no enthusiasm?
@@hothotheat3000 8 of Denzel's 9 Oscar nominations have been for films NOT nominated for Picture. He got in for ROMAN J ISRAEL ESQ of all movies too! He is basically the male Meryl Streep at this point.

People aren't predicting him because the movie's topic revolves around Trump, which doesn’t make sense to me. I’m only focusing on his performance, and in my opinion, he’s the best of the year. -Kieran Culkin Without a doubt, his performance is the emotional core of the film. Even when he’s silent, you can feel the pain in his eyes, and that kind of depth is incredibly powerful. It impacted me the most. -Guy Pearce I’m not ready to predict him as a winner just yet because I haven’t felt much buzz for The Brutalist so far. However, maybe in a few weeks, people will start to recognize his monumental performance and talk about it more. -Denzel Washington The best part of Gladiator 2 is this man. He completely disappears into the role of the most charismatic and charming villain. He absolutely deserves an Oscar nomination. -Stanley Tucci You have to see him in Conclave-what a performance! This film has been widely praised, and I think Tucci will benefit from that momentum. His portrayal brings real tension to the movie, and his scenes with Ralph Fiennes definitely deserve an Oscar nomination.
I can see The Substance performing like Black Swan which got 12 BAFTA nominations and a very low 5 Oscar nominations. The Substance could hit all 11 nominations from its BAFTA longlists and then get 4-6 Oscar nominations.

This is an extremely cynical way to view the BAFTAs, I am aware, but I am just convinced that Brits don't really appreciate films about African Americans in the same way, simply because the consciousness of the history is less present and it is very much perceived as an American story, and if you want to understand Brits, they will simply dislike things for being too American. This is also the same reason war films do so well at the BAFTAs, because everyone has a grandparent or great uncle who died in the war, everyone has to do their minute silence for the war every year... we're a country who is still very conscious of the wars we went through. This is not to dismiss that Brits cannot understand stories of racial struggle, because that is simply untrue, and we have our own issues and brilliant films which tackle the matter. And not just studio wise but audiences and critics LOVE it and it's literally showing up everywhere this season. If Get Out and Black Swan and Everything Everywhere All at Once can get nominations and wins, I see no one reason for this.
A few weeks ago I predicted Deadwyler and Ellis-Taylor missing BAFTA (still thought they'd at least get longlisted) which would create a path for Gomez at the Oscars. Gomez is likely getting GG, SAG, and BAFTA (and Cannes) which I think makes her a strong number 6. If the Academy likes 'Emilia Perez' as much as I think they will, they could over-nominate it and then it's just a matter of waiting for weakness from Rossellini, Qualley, and Jones. Deadwyler seems to be done, sadly, but I can still see a surprise nomination for Ellis-Taylor if 'Nickel boys' overperforms.
Can someone explain the “long list” to me? What does it mean? Is it like the semi-finals? If you don’t make the “long list”, you can’t get a SAG nom, yes? Do they vote for nominations from the long list? help!!!
The long list is the list of candidates that are in the running to get the final nomination at BAFTA so yes like the semi-finals. This list does not have anything to do with who gets a nomination at SAG or the Oscars, those two have their own lists.
"Will they snub Snail, because they're definitely nominating Wallace & Gromit?" ...Have those 2 not been locked in pretty much everywhere? Who says one is replacing the other?
While I feel like The Substance is in the vein of EEAAO and Parasite (crazy movies that are creative, unusual and have a lot to say), and I want it to win, I don’t have the confidence I did for those films. I KNEW, they had it in the bag. This time I’m hopeful, but I don’t have that certainty.
i know kneecap is in the long list for “outstanding british film” because it was mostly funded by british production companies but god it makes me angry because really it’s just Irish
I thought we might see more BAFTA love for Bird and Love Lies Bleeding - particularly in Director Longlist. Dahomey and Hoard also had some bold and beautiful direction from female directors.
I feel like there's still a chance she could be removed from the Oscar Nominations even if she has all four important nominations, but Selena has a better chance than people think.
@pb.j.1753 for any other than song and VFX? I speak as both an Awards Season person and a Robbie Williams person. I thought it would show up in more categories as the quintessentially British pop culture movie that it is and l swear l mean it in an objective non-biased way.
I'm actually surprised that so many people are surprised by this omission. The BAFTAs have NEVER liked soundtracks with electronic music (they also Not do the Social Network in their year)
@@bryce3066 I don't think I got bored anticipating emmett's lynching or watching the system frustrate the mum's attempt to get justice at every turn while processing her grief. It was a very raw watch, but I think for white people, it's just another black trauma porn with basic cinematography
Let's compare Amelia Perez to Barbie, it got the most nominations at the BAFTAS and completely struck out with the shortlist nominations. I can see EP doing similarly in the guilds. When we get to the Oscars, it won't be as glamorous for them.
@@Jose-sx4ql Good. It's because last year, Barbie was the most nominated film outside of Oppenheimer at the Globes. It walked away with nothing because it's about a toy at it's very core and that's why it failed to win anything. Regardless of Gerwig doing something artistic and stylized, she was still adapting a toy. Wicked doesn't have those roadblocks, it's a musical adaptation and the BAFTAS love those. Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey are also British and their affection for the stage musical is off the charts in the UK. Barbie always had those roadblocks and obstacles to overcome with awards voters that only saw it as a fun summer comedy with very little in the way of substance and drama. Wicked is built around tough themes, strong characters and racial metaphors including fascist regimes that pave a path of political relevancy, especially coming off the heels of the election. This feels more like the Oppenheimer of this year with a splash of Chicago. It's performing similarly in the guilds to Chicago and might pull an upset at the Oscars. Emilia Perez is the Barbie of this year because it's about a dying movement in Hollywood that they're afraid of, the trans movement in this case. They're already afraid of upsetting people because they committed category fraud by including Karla Sophia Gascon in Best Actress when she's biologically male. It's disgusting that they did that and it rubs me the wrong way. Here's hoping Wicked could be the Poor Things of the year and shock everyone at the globes. Just cause they nominated EP in everything, doesn't mean that it will win anything at all. The industry might love it but the Academy and the awards voters must hate it if that's the case. I'm curious to know your thoughts.
So Emilia Perez is the maestro and Elvis of this year, where everyone thinks it’s not Oscar worthy, but are still predicting it for everything because the Oscars are stupid
The difference is that the first two mentioned were acclaimed Oscar Baits, with Emilia Perez it is for two things 1- The noise it generated made many people watch it (including voters who think that by watching the movie they are already doing good) 2- Jacques Audiard has always been a renowned director and the time would come when he would finally be awarded and it would be for his loudest and best directed film.
@@LDavDT33 which is sad, because jacques audiard is a phenomenal director with a great filmography...but EP is his worst, and it's not even close. he even said himself that he didn't research the subject matter of the film and it shows.

Love seeing The Oscar Expert wearing White Noise A&P merch
This if anything confirmed to me that Zoe Saldana might sweep after all.
She deserves to. I get the mixed response to the film but her performance was next level
Conclave is a 'nice little British old person's thing'. Geez, that's really selling it short.
I NEED Monkey Man to get something this award season
as someone who loves "emilia pérez" i love seeing people losing their minds over the amazing performance of that movie at the awards
Pérez: the accent is on the first E .....where you have the accent 🤣😂
I love the awards season, love this
“Nosferado”
The Apprentice. The Golden Globes nominations make sense now.
Hard Truths got so screwed, that's really sad.
A luxury robe to bring on multiple cruises? How is the material
Sebastián Stan deserves better this award season. 2 great performances
Y’all forgot to react to A Real Pain missing the long list for Best Film. So I think it’s done.
Cause no one had a speck of doubt it will miss 👍🏻
"Will they snub Snail, because they're definitely nominating Wallace & Gromit?"
...Have those 2 not been locked in pretty much everywhere? Who says one is replacing the other?
I'm surprised and disappointed that the BAFTAs didn't go out more for We Live in Time.
Sebastian Stan and Nicole Kidman both feel like they could have a late surge and get the Oscar nom
i know kneecap is in the long list for “outstanding british film” because it was mostly funded by british production companies but god it makes me angry because really it’s just Irish
I thought we might see more BAFTA love for Bird and Love Lies Bleeding - particularly in Director Longlist. Dahomey and Hoard also had some bold and beautiful direction from female directors.
Bird is quite bad. Even the British can‘t deny it to themselves lol
@@pb.j.1753 One of the best of the year for me. Mesmerising.
no score for dune 2?
Not eligible.
another tough watch knowing the longlist
Doesn't anybody else think how weird it is that they look so much a like?
Kinda like they're cousins or something
I thought they were twins? They aren’t twins?
Right now I believe that Conclave will win the BAFTA and Anora will win at the Oscars. Emilia Perez seems to be to divisive for winning Best Picture
why does everyone hate challengers? its my favorite of the year hands down I DONT GET IT
Nosferatu is one of the very best movies of the year and deserved more nominations.
Stopp slapping Emilia Perez. It's great. It's original, bold, well acted, well directed. Always these Musical haters 😤
The cope is so real with you two about Gomez. just let it go bro, it's over
I feel like there's still a chance she could be removed from the Oscar Nominations even if she has all four important nominations, but Selena has a better chance than people think.
🤭
All we imagine as light ❤
Where the F is _Challengers_ in Best Original Music??
No love for A Different Man.
They hate their own 😂
Anyone here knows why Better Man didn't pull off surprise noms?
For which categories
@pb.j.1753 for any other than song and VFX? I speak as both an Awards Season person and a Robbie Williams person. I thought it would show up in more categories as the quintessentially British pop culture movie that it is and l swear l mean it in an objective non-biased way.
So Better Man got nothing, but Back to Black did? Bruh...
BAFTA hated Angelina Jolie while a long ago BAFTA loves Brad Pitt... BAFTA didn't want a "powerful" woman..
Jolie is a powerful woman?
Maria hasn't been released in the UK yet.
@phoenixrising8231 really?... wow... so BAFTA didn't see it yet...
9/10 are locked Sing Sing is on chopping block.
Hell yes. Overrated film
@pb.j.1753 disagree I adore it.
@@pb.j.1753 Disagree. It's overrated TO YOU but I love the film
Mark eydelsheyn will get nominated for rising star
Them rejecting Challengers score is horrendous 😭
I'm actually surprised that so many people are surprised by this omission.
The BAFTAs have NEVER liked soundtracks with electronic music (they also Not do the Social Network in their year)
@ im not surprised, im just hurt lol
Danielle deadwyler needs to appear in a good film.
fr. i watched the piano lesson recently and thought it was absolutely terrible
@@bryce3066i switched it off after 10 minutes 🥲
You mean "in a film that's not black." Cos Till Was/Is a good film
@ meh not really, it was boring outside of her performance which was of course incredible
Everybody saying Wicked is the Barbie of this year and I'm over here like no its Emilia Perez
FYI: SING SING wasn't eligible for casting
And WICKED wasn't eligible for score (at BAFTA)
Can you actually pronounce it as Emilia PÉrez? It's becoming grating.
So Emilia Perez is the maestro and Elvis of this year, where everyone thinks it’s not Oscar worthy, but are still predicting it for everything because the Oscars are stupid
The difference is that the first two mentioned were acclaimed Oscar Baits, with Emilia Perez it is for two things
1- The noise it generated made many people watch it (including voters who think that by watching the movie they are already doing good)
2- Jacques Audiard has always been a renowned director and the time would come when he would finally be awarded and it would be for his loudest and best directed film.
@@LDavDT33 which is sad, because jacques audiard is a phenomenal director with a great filmography...but EP is his worst, and it's not even close. he even said himself that he didn't research the subject matter of the film and it shows.
Realy bafta think back to black better than anglina jolle in maria 🤔british quota
Damn so many comments already
Nice White Noise merch
Conclave is good film but I don't see it as a winner
Is winning 1 award and that's it
I love the inclusion of Jude Law in best actor. I know nobody saw the movie but I did and it is definitely one of his all time best performances.
The exclusion of Challengers, esp. in score, is baffling.
I just saw the movie over Christmas. So terrible and he was borderline goofy in it but it was more due to the bad writing I think
@pb.j.1753 I'm not saying the movie is great but he was. Didn't find him goofy at all. But we all have different tastes I guess.
