But if someone knew they were robbing a bank and agreed to be a getaway driver, they can’t say “what, I was paid to drive.” Or if a thief lies and tricks a locksmith into opening someone’s house, the lock smith is innocent, but if he does the exact same thing to let the thief in, knowing it’s a robbery, then that’s illegal. It is complicated.
The real reason for the arrests was that someone had actually published a blog post on which they reverse engineered the app and found out it was leaking data. They feared that more and more users would find out and stop using it.
