This video is so straight forward! Everything is great except for when I launch the game via Frosty I get an error that I don't have Origin installed. I installed the EA app since that is what replaced it and then when I try to launch the game it tells me I don't have Inquisition installed even though I do on Steam? I have put in the launch plugin and set it to Steam. Edit: I had to run the game for the first time normally on Steam. All good now :D
You might want to close out of the EA App (probably through Task Manager since it will run in the background if you just X out of it), then open it again and log in (or log out then back in); then minimize it before launching the game through Frosty. I sometimes have to do that with Steam as well. There's a more exhaustive troubleshooting list here: forums.nexusmods.com/topic/8623483-dai-frosty-troubleshooting-guide/
Thank you so much for this first of all! I am having a bit of a weird issue, though, where the custom parameters Steam wants to use when I open the game through Frosty are [-dataPath "D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dragon" ] instead of what it always used to be, which is [-dataPath "ModData/Default"] This makes it so that the game doesn't actually open? it gets to the EA app and then freezes, and I'm not sure if there's a way to redirect it back? My mods used to load just fine, and I haven't changed which ones I use, which makes this even stranger. The game opens just fine if I don't run it through frosty, too ;w;
Great guide Posi! I have a few questions that are kind of unrelated lol 1) I'm fairly new to PC gaming but how did you connect an Xbox Controller? 2a) What is the custom argument " -dataPath "ModData/Default" " you have in Steam for? @ 11:52 2b) For DAO and DA2 I used that line for enabling console commands, is that related to the same thing or is there another way to enable console commands if you use them? Thanks so much :P
Thanks so much! I'm happy to help if I can. 1. If you go to the Bluetooth settings on your PC, and "Add Device", there will be an option to add an Xbox controller, and as long as the controller is on and the light is blinking (hit the pair button), it should connect. Steam should then automatically register it (if that's what you're using), but if not, there is a controller option under Settings there as well. Then you just have to make sure the controller is on before launching the game, and it should be good to go! 2a. I haven't entered any Launch Option commands, so I'm pretty sure that's just Frosty asking Steam for permission to launch using my merged patch folder path since I'm using both mod managers. 2b. I don't use console commands for DA:I, and I don't believe many people do. Personally, I recommend just going with a mod rather than potentially messing with your save. And thank you for clearly organizing your questions! ☺
@@PosiCobra Thank you so much! Yeah I figured that was that case lol. But now I’m having a whole different issue with launching the game through the EA app… I installed through Steam and when EA goes to launch it, nothing happens. Dragon Age 2 works fine as well as other games, so it seems to be a communication issue with EA app and the .exe file. I’ve been troubleshooting for 2 days now and no luck :( if you have any advice on how to solve this I’m all ears 🫶🏼
@@RyngoGames Hmm. I'm assuming you've already done most of these things, but just to cover all our bases here, have you tried the following?: 1. Restart your computer and open up the EA app first, making sure you're signed in. Then just minimize it/leave it running in the background, and launch the game (through Frosty if you're using it; through Steam if you're using DAIMM). 2. If the EA loading bar pops up and runs for a moment but then quits, you might just need to restart the EA app and/or log out then log back in first to kickstart it. 3. Verify that the Inquisition .exe location is correct in your mod manager(s). It should be in a Steam folder, not an EA folder. 4. You could try running Frosty, EA, Steam, or the game as an administrator by right-clicking>Properties>"Run as Administrator". I'd probably try this one at a time rather than running them all that way just to track down the issue. 5. I'm not sure if this will help, but it's just a standard trouble-shooting step for me to verify game files in Steam. Hopefully one of these should fix the issue, but if not, let me know, and I'll keep looking for answers!
Your video helped me get the frosty manager to somewhat work- but the hair mods still won’t show up in character creation (I even turned that one graphics thing up to ultra, but nothing seems to work😭)
Are you using more than one hair mod at once? If so, I recommend just using one at a time. If you're already using just one, are you using any other mods?
Great tutorial! The Veilguard video made me confident I could use that knowledge for modding Inquisition, but I'm struggling! I have all the mods loaded into Frosty (no DAI mods at all), but nothing appears in game. Send help please!
@@PosiCobra Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Yes, I did launch via Frosty. I also tried to make sure the mods were in a specific order (example: if I had an eye mod, it went after a hair mod).
@@madalice1152 No problem! My next suggestion would be to try the rest of this trouble-shooting list from Dmitrias (picking up with 3 since you did the first two): forums.nexusmods.com/topic/10174628-dragon-age-inquisition-mods-not-working/ You could maybe also load in one mod at a time to see if there's some odd conflict.
hii super helpful tutorial, tysm! but after i press merge on dai mod manager it stops writing after the line creating cas files. last time it did an error and this time it’s been stuck like this for 10+ minutes with nothing happening. I checked for the new patch folder and it is there, so I am not sure what to do as it doesnt write the final line like it did in your video…
Oh, thanks! Sorry you're having trouble with it though. I'm going to guess that there might be a mod conflict, so you could test it out with just a mod or two to see if it goes through successfully, or trying a different load order could possibly be enough. You might also need to run the game once on its own without mods first if you've yet to do so. (Also, have you checked to see if the mods actually show up in game after this happens? The fact that the patch folder is there could mean they're getting applied before the manager fails.)
Thank you for the help! I've followed all your instructions (frosty) to get a hairstyle and deploy it, launch the game etc, but how do I actually apply the hairstyle in-game? It doesn't show up when I go to Black Emporium to change it?
Thank you! It probably depends on which race/gender you're playing, but if you want to see what mods my two characters here used, I'll give you the links! The first section of each mod list is all character creation/cosmetics. I don't use any pre-made faces, but complexions and eyebrows are probably the most impactful in creating a look, I think. My Qunari's mods are in the description of this video: ua-cam.com/video/mEEagGBW66M/v-deo.htmlsi=Gej2Z0f7WGdlh5Oz And my Dalish character's mods are here (her list got too long 😬): www.patreon.com/posts/aislins-mod-list-111558465?Link&
i keep getting the "you must have a version of the official patch to use mods" message when i open up the dmm and i can't figure out why it's happening or how to fix it. does anyone know any fixes for this? I've started over from the beginning multiple time and nothing changes.
If you did the steps from the beginning, at 5:58, I talk about saving your original Patch folder; return that to the update folder before running the Mod Manager. If you've ever modded the game before and don't have your original Patch, you might need to uninstall and redownload the game.
you're video was so helpful and easy to understand but i still for the life of me can not get frosty to work T-T it always gets stuck in the loading screen right before character creation
@@PosiCobra with frosty i'm only using two hair mods, Anto aubree, and Nightcrawler sugar. i'm trying to use both frosty and DAI mod manager and i got everything working with DAI MM but frosty is praying on my downfall
@@beckettdeckett Have you tried using just one of the hairstyles? It could be that those two are editing the same style, so they're freezing up the game. I typically only use one style at a time and then just switch them out before running to the Black Emporium when I want a change. If that's not the case, then I'll look into other culprits.
I'm running into an issue with the DAI mod manager where I go to merge my mod files & the patch file but I get an error saying "Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\EA Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch_ModManagerMerge\Data' is denied." What's the fix for this? My DAI is through the EA app, if that changes things.
You always have to run the manager with the original Patch. So grab the copy of the original Patch that I said to save in a safe space, paste it into your update folder, delete the "Patch_ModManagerMerge" one, then run the manager. I talk about this around 8:27 in the video.
just the video i was looking for! i’m fairly new to mods and they’re overwhelming to me! frosty definitely seems like the easier manager to use. quick question though, does it matter if i buy the game through steam or ea? will frosty work regardless?
It can be intimidating, so you should be proud for taking the leap! But you can buy the game from either: just make sure the .exe is set to the correct location in Frosty. 👍
hi sorry i did all the steps but even when i launch through frosty nothing changes, i already changed mesh to ultra so im not sure what else to do :( no hairs i downloaded show up
I would double-check that you're using the correct version for the race you're playing, and if you're mid playthrough and they're not showing at the Black Emporium, you might need the Hair in DLCs mod loaded after. I also recommend only using one hairstyle at a time even if they replace different hairs just to ensure there is no conflict. Please let me know if any of that fixes it, and if not, we'll keep troubleshooting!
haaaaai this tut was lovely !! i’m having a weird issue tho where frosty won’t even finish loading up w/ dai selected 😢 it cuts off after feeding me a “an unhandled exception has occurred” and force closing 😅 any suggestions?
Thank you! ☺ Have you tried running Frosty as an administrator? (Right-click on the Frosty Mod Manager .exe, then go to Properties>Compatibility>check "Run this program as administrator">Okay.) If that doesn't work, please let me know, and we'll keep trouble-shooting!
Hi, this is my first time modding Inquisition or any game really so I might need a little help. I have my mods ready and applied on Frosty and when I go to launch via the mod manager, I am given a crash message saying "Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\EA Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\ModData\Default\' is denied." I'm not really sure where to go from here. I am using the Game of the Year Edition on the EA App. Any help would be really appreciated ☺
Hi! Congrats on taking the modding leap! 🎉 First, I would try right-clicking on the FrostyModManager application and "Run as administrator", then launch and see if the error goes away. If running Frosty as an admin doesn't work, find that ModData folder and delete it (when you relaunch, Frosty will make a new one). And if that doesn't work, maybe try unchecking "Read Only" under the folder Properties. If none of those solutions were successful, please let me know, and we'll try something else.
I’ll help if I can! Can you answer these questions for me?: 1. Are you using DAIMM, Frosty, or both? 2. What are some of the mods you’re using? 3. Are you getting any error messages anywhere, and if so, what do they say?
@@PosiCobra thank u! I replied to your comment hours ago, but I think it got deleted for some reason? So I will reply again. 1. I am using frosty only. 2. I am trying to get 1 hair mod to work, in addition to 4 visual fix mods that it is dependent on. 3. I am not getting any errors.
@@PosiCobra The hair mod is from "Anto Hairstyles for DAI" and is the one called Minerva. When I looked at the requirements pop down, all of those were listed there. I made sure it is the version that was made for frosty mod manager. Also uh, after opening and closing my game a few times trying to get this to work... my frosty mod manager won't run the game anymore... I can run it fine normally, but not with frosty. I am not getting any error message, it just shuts down when in the middle of the steam+EA loading thing that happens before the game window should open.
@@emris2697 Okay, luckily, I've used the hairstyle before, so I think I can help! First, to see if we can get Frosty running smoothly again, I would run it as an administrator if you're not already doing that (right click>Properties, and you can set it to always run this way). If that doesn't work, you can also delete your ModData folder from your local game files (Frosty will create a new one the next time it runs). Then, add the Minerva style (verify you're using the correct one for the race you're playing) and only that (if you were using other mods, I'd tell you to put it at the end of your load order). You shouldn't need anything else except maybe Modded Hair in DLCs, and I would only use the one(s) you need at that time; for instance, I pretty much always keep the Black Emporium one at the bottom since I might run there at any moment, but I'll only add the Jaws of Hakkon version when I'm playing that DLC. And I would refrain from using a retexture or anything else until I see the hair on its own when I switch over to it at the Mirror. (I always switch to a hair, exit the mirror, and then go stand right in front of Xenon just to see what it looks like up close in the light. lol.)
Anyone else getting the error where you click Launch in frosty and looks like it loads but the game never actually launches? The EA app just crashes and reboots. Trying to find a fix for this is a headache
When that happens to me, I typically find that logging out of the EA app then back in (or even just rebooting my PC then signing in) can fix that. If not, you could try running Frosty as an administrator. If neither of those things work, please let me know, and we can try something else!
I'm running Frosty 1.0.6.3 as admin on an NTFS formatted drive under Windows 11. (Same drive as installed game.) When I launch Inquisition, Frosty gives error saying one or more symbolic links could not be created". Any ideas on how to fix this?
I'm not sure why it's throwing that error, but maybe if you have another drive, you could try moving them, or here are some other trouble-shooting ideas: 1. I always recommend updating your drivers and restarting your PC first. 2. If you're using Steam, verify your game files from there by right-clicking on the game>Properties>Installed Files>Verify Integrity. 3. Delete the ModData folder from local files (same place where your game .exe is; Frosty should create a new one the next time you launch from there). 4. Right-click>Properties, and make sure "Read Only" is unchecked.
@@PosiCobra Thank you so much for the advice. I've been looking into getting this working all over the place online. I did several things and voila! it now launches. 1> Verified files on Steam. 2>Relocated Inquisition to a new area on a different drive - I went all out and put in the C (SSD) drive root directory. 3>Launched the (new) EA app as Admin before starting Frosty. 4>Downloaded a fresh copy of Frosty from GitHub, also on C drive, and started it as admin. I still have to check if the mods actually went in as intended. I will have to see if I will need Frosty fix, or a data path plug-in, but at least this is a start! My next step is to see if I can duplicate this success on my other drives, as I don't like executing apps on my C drive. For others having issues, check out this link on Nexus: forums.nexusmods.com/topic/13493387-frosty-mod-manager-setting-for-anyone-who-doesnt-know-how-to-get-the-launch-options-for-frostythis-is-how-i-got-my-mods-to-finally-show-let-me-know-if-it-works-for-you/
@@PosiCobra Finally got it working. (1) I had to install both Inquisition and Frosty on system (C) drive - other drives did not work for me. [I had to uninstall Inquisition and reinstall it with Steam - simply "moving" files with Steam confused the EA app, which was fooled into thinking the game was not installed]. I had to remove the "Frosty" folder from user\local\appdata and then reinstall Frosty. (2) I ran the EA app as Admin and Frosty as Admin. Thanks for the advice!
You'll want to use the older version of Frosty that I show here instead of the newest one just because Inquisition doesn't need the updated version/the old one is more stable.
Nothing works. I'm using Frosty, tried every method and trick, but it's not working. I only tried installing a couple hair mods, but when I launch the game it launches Steam, launches EA, I get all the usual pop-ups, but the game never starts. And of course if I then try launching it from Steam or EA the mods do not appear. I tried several other tiny mods, one at a time, but none of them works. I'm losing my mind.
I know you said you tried every trick, but just to cover all our bases, here are the troubleshooting tactics I recommend: 1. Update your drivers and restart your computer. 2. Run Frosty as an administrator (right click>Properties). 3. Make sure your graphics settings are on ultra and that you've chosen the correct hairstyle for the race you're playing. 4. Delete your ModData folder (Frosty will make a new one the next time your run it). 5. Restart both Steam and the EA app, make sure you're logged into both, then minimize them before launching through Frosty. 6. Lower your anti-virus settings. 7. If all else fails, check out these tips: forums.nexusmods.com/topic/8623483-dai-frosty-troubleshooting-guide/
@PosiCobra Thank you. Unfortunately, I've been through all those steps, several times, but nothing worked. After ten hours of trying I gave up and now I'm sticking to DAIMM, but unfortunately there aren't many mods I want to use that are compatible with DAIMM, as most are made for Frosty.
@@montheadventurer That's a bummer! I know there are special plugins or really niche workarounds out there that I've never tried myself but might work for you - and I don't want you to give up! It's extreme, but maybe uninstall the game and Frosty, then reinstall them both on the same drive but not in the same folder?
@@PosiCobra Thank you! I found what I needed among the DAIMM mods, but if I give it another go with Frosty I'll definitely try this, and hope for the best. I might also give the plugins another try, considering I tried it while I was half-asleep and the chances of having messed up are not zero. Nonetheless, your videos and comments really helped, both me and my friends. 🙏🏻
It should! You'll just want to make sure to input the correct path to the .exe location (not the Steam path I've shown here; you should be able to find it through EA>Properties or in the Task Manager).
Me too! I also try to correct the path to the .exe for EA and I found nothing in my files linked to the game (My "EA Games" folder is empty)... I have the latest version of Frosty (1.0.7.0) and the "change platform" setting doesn't exist anymore. I'm tired that doesn't work, because I litteraly followed all the steps and have 0 error. Just that when I launch the game via Frosty, it redirects me to the EA app without starting the game. If someone have a soluce, please share it!
@@PosiCobra turns out it wasn’t working because I was using DAI mod manager before switching to frosty and it somehow manipulated the game into thinking it’s a lower version

Or if you've played the game before with DAIMM, @sarahdessouki222 mentioned another solution in their second comment here that could work for you.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but for some reason it doesn't work for me getting the mods to work. I don't really do a lot of mods, with all the faces, just 2 hair styles, but even so, nothing works for me, and I don't understand why it doesn't work at all. Since I've followed every step here in the video
Some things to check out: 1. Try launching with just one of the hairs at a time. 2. Make sure mesh settings are on Ultra. 3. Double-check that the hair you've chosen is specifically for the race you're playing. 4. If you're not starting a new game, you'll need to run to the Black Emporium mirror to switch to it, and you might need this extra mod to see it there: www.nexusmods.com/dragonageinquisition/mods/2712 If you've done those things, I can still help you troubleshoot, but I'll just need more information like if you're using Frosty, DAIMM, or both, what pop-ups you're seeing, etc.
@@PosiCobra I did figure out what the problem was, and was just me being very stupid, which I'm not afraid to admit. Then found some other mods in my search to help for the dlcs. But as everyone has said, your video is very informative and easy to understand
i just can't make frosty mods to work. It seems frosty aplies to the game but when it comes to show, the mods are nowhere to be found :( I also tried frostyfix and still can't make them work
Hmm. Can you work through the trouble-shooting steps that Dmitrias listed here, and then let me know if it's still not working?: forums.nexusmods.com/topic/10174628-dragon-age-inquisition-mods-not-working/
I cant download the Mod Manager there, it comes everytime this: This did not work for some reason If this is a temporary problem, updating the page may solve the problem. Or simply ask us for help.
I can't duplicate the error, so I'm not sure what could be causing it. Have you tried refreshing the page, checking for updates, and restarting your system?
Just a few questions to help me trouble-shoot: 1. Are you using Steam or just EA? 2. At what point is this error popping up? When you run Frosty before adding mods or when you're trying to launch the game? 3. What does the error say exactly?
Frequently but not always. Hairstyles or other CC .dai mods should work fine through Frosty, but armor/texture mods or ones that reroute game data paths won't. You could always load it up with Frosty just to see if it works! May I ask what .dai mod(s) you're thinking of using with Frosty? I might have experience with it.
I'll try to help, but I might be out of my depth with this one. What does the popup say, and when are you getting it (when running one of the mod managers, the game, on startup, repeatedly, etc.)?
I for the life of me cannot get this to work. I wish someone could just mod my game for me to my liking and get it to work. Got all the way to the merging process and it never finished completing the merging. Just warning messages in the text part.
@@noahrobinson8084 You might want to double-check that you've set the correct location for your game .exe then. You could also try to run Frosty as an administrator.
Hmm. Is it possible that you've chosen a hairstyle with an alternate texture? If so, there could be a conflict with another hair texture, or there are just some that look bad at the Emporium but fine in game. I always try to use Frosty hairs with a vanilla texture for this reason.
after clicking on the DA: Inquisition icon, Frosty reports this to me: An object of type System.Double cannot be cast to type FrostySdk.DbObject. frosty version 1.0.7.0/ EA App Does anyone see what's wrong with that?

I am having a bit of a weird issue, though, where the custom parameters Steam wants to use when I open the game through Frosty are [-dataPath "D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dragon" ] instead of what it always used to be, which is [-dataPath "ModData/Default"]
This makes it so that the game doesn't actually open? it gets to the EA app and then freezes, and I'm not sure if there's a way to redirect it back? My mods used to load just fine, and I haven't changed which ones I use, which makes this even stranger. The game opens just fine if I don't run it through frosty, too ;w;
Great guide Posi! I have a few questions that are kind of unrelated lol
1) I'm fairly new to PC gaming but how did you connect an Xbox Controller?
2a) What is the custom argument " -dataPath "ModData/Default" " you have in Steam for? @ 11:52
2b) For DAO and DA2 I used that line for enabling console commands, is that related to the same thing or is there another way to enable console commands if you use them?
I'm assuming you've already done most of these things, but just to cover all our bases here, have you tried the following?:
Thanks! I'm happy to help if I can. Just double-checking: did you launch the game from Frosty?
@@PosiCobra Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Yes, I did launch via Frosty. I also tried to make sure the mods were in a specific order (example: if I had an eye mod, it went after a hair mod).

hii super helpful tutorial, tysm! but after i press merge on dai mod manager it stops writing after the line creating cas files. last time it did an error and this time it’s been stuck like this for 10+ minutes with nothing happening.
It should be there! If not, you might need this: www.nexusmods.com/dragonageinquisition/mods/2712

If you did the steps from the beginning, at 5:58, I talk about saving your original Patch folder; return that to the update folder before running the Mod Manager. If you've ever modded the game before and don't have your original Patch, you might need to uninstall and redownload the game.

First, I would try right-clicking on the FrostyModManager application and "Run as administrator", then launch and see if the error goes away.

Please help me. I have followed all the steps in this video and other similar ones, but my mods just don't show up in game! 😿
I’ll help if I can! Can you answer these questions for me?:
@@emris2697 Four visual fixes seems like a lot of requirements. Would you mind sharing the hair mod with me so I can look at the description?
I'm not sure why it's throwing that error, but maybe if you have another drive, you could try moving them, or here are some other trouble-shooting ideas:

Thanks for the advice!

the fmm doesnt work for me, both dai and dav have problems
You'll want to use the older version of Frosty that I show here instead of the newest one just because Inquisition doesn't need the updated version/the old one is more stable.
Nothing works. I'm using Frosty, tried every method and trick, but it's not working. I only tried installing a couple hair mods, but when I launch the game it launches Steam, launches EA, I get all the usual pop-ups, but the game never starts. And of course if I then try launching it from Steam or EA the mods do not appear. I tried several other tiny mods, one at a time, but none of them works. I'm losing my mind.
I know you said you tried every trick, but just to cover all our bases, here are the troubleshooting tactics I recommend:
Some things to check out:
1. Try launching with just one of the hairs at a time.
2. Make sure mesh settings are on Ultra.
3. Double-check that the hair you've chosen is specifically for the race you're playing.
4. If you're not starting a new game, you'll need to run to the Black Emporium mirror to switch to it, and you might need this extra mod to see it there: www.nexusmods.com/dragonageinquisition/mods/2712
