  • This video showcases some cool clips of Anna ripping her upgraded Oset. I also describe the upgrade process.
    Here's Anna getting some great holeshots at the local races. • 3 Yo. Full Send Hole S...
    I upgraded Anna's Oset 12.5r with a custom 42 volt 10s6p LiPo battery and a Kelley Controller. The bike does very well racing in the Stacyc 12" modified class. It's like a mini Tesla when it has traction.
    The upgrade is really not that hard a job. Watch your motor temps.

      Haha thanks I appreciate it. We'll see where she wants to take it. My goal is to teach her life lessons and let her have fun. If she wants to go that route maybe we will. I'm not going to push her too hard. I know what happens when you push kids too hard to compete in a sport.

      @theshippingcontainergarage  Рік тому

      She makes me very proud! Her handling skills are off the charts. I've seen her just automatically do stuff I never taught her, like standing off the seat and putting her hips way back for going down really steep obstacles. I've been blown away.
      Speaking of countering the speed wobbles there's a pretty good clip of her countering the steering in this short video. It's the clip of the start on the big gate, those tiny tires just catch the ruts and follow them. She did great straightening up though! ua-cam.com/video/KHDbcs7BsyQ/v-deo.html

    Definitely a hole shot machine, lol. Ours is stock (on 24V lifepo4) and they're really powerful, especially considering power/weight compared to a 50cc.

    • @theshippingcontainergarage
      @theshippingcontainergarage  Рік тому

      Nice yeah I really like the size of these bikes compared to the 50 bikes. Wish they were lighter with a redesigned aluminum frame. I was talking with Oset and apparently they have a fully redesigned product line coming out soon. I'm hoping for aluminum...
      FYI, I think the LiFePO4(Dakota Lithium, right?) can't spit out enough current for true 24v full throttle acceleration requirements. I never ended up pursuing it but when I looked at the output numbers I don't think it can supply the current needed for full throttle.

    • @TimPaddy
      @TimPaddy Рік тому

      @@theshippingcontainergarage I originally started with 2 Dakota 12V's. It seemed better than the lead acid for power, but it was also a hell of a weight reduction. It definitely ran longer. I've been turned off of Dakota though. A guy on UA-cam tore a bunch down, the AH rating is a bold face lie on the 12V10ah, and either it has no short circuit protection or they all just happened to fail his tests... It SHOULDN'T matter, but I accidently touched one of them reverse polarity, so you realize anything can happen.
      I'm now working with K2 24V lifepo4. Crazy expensive, but used ones can be found in great condition (most spend their life as backup power in hospital equipment and get proactively replaced early, is my understanding)

    • @theshippingcontainergarage
      @theshippingcontainergarage  Рік тому

      @@TimPaddy Ah I'm glad you did some research and found something better. Mine came with the Dakota's from the previous owner. They were so much lighter and they worked so I never bothered with the lead acid at all. Good to know about the other LiFePo4s... in case I ever downgrade for the next in line(she's 2).

      @@theshippingcontainergarageif your just looking for a longer battery life and faster charge does it matter what battery you swap out for. I've seen another video of 1x 24 volt lithium battery being put in instead . Since you put in a 42 volt will that be twice the battery life of a 24v and automatic greater speed ?

    • @theshippingcontainergarage
      @theshippingcontainergarage  Рік тому

      So it sounds like you just want longer run time rather than just more horsepower/torque. You would have to make a comparison on the batteries rated AmpHour capacity. They typically call it "Ah". I don't know the specifications on the one you are looking at so it's hard to say. Either way that's the comparison to look up.

  • @noboundsj
    @noboundsj Рік тому

    How did you connect the lithium battery / controller to the ac / dc motor

    • @theshippingcontainergarage
      @theshippingcontainergarage  Рік тому

      It's pretty straight forward but you have to follow the manuals. The battery connects to the relay, switch turn on relay and controller, relay opens up to send power to the controller, Controller connects to motor.
      Hope this helps!

    I know you built your own battery, but is there someone who you have since found that will build a 42 volt battery and controller for the Oset 12.5? My grandson wants more speed. I haven’t seen anyone else doing what you have done to your daughter’s machine. I’m in So. Cal also.

    • @theshippingcontainergarage
      @theshippingcontainergarage  4 місяці тому +1

      Sorry I haven't searched for that since building my setup. Back when I was researching I think there were guys on facebook or forums that built batteries. You could also try contacting high end RC shops and/or custom drone building guys.
      If you can't find anyone it's not the end of the world to build your own. Just get the really good tools for it and the job is easy.
      Highly recommend you get a better front fork and do the rear shock mod like I did if you guys are going to crank up the speed.

      What about the controller? Stock controller works? I get that I’ll need a lithium charger to charge the 42 volt battery

      @@darrengillhouse198 Stock controller will not accept any voltage higher than stock voltage.
      I just use a DC power supply with adequate charging amperage as my charger.

    • @theshippingcontainergarage
      @theshippingcontainergarage  Рік тому

      Approximately $150 to $200 in battery(can be cheaper with less batteries in parallel)
      Controller was $110 shipped from Cloud Electric
      Overall probably about $300 in total. If I were to do it again I would probably try and purchase a high quality battery terminal spot welder. The DIY car battery + starter relay version I made was a pain to use.

  • @Daniel-ig3qu

    So did you just run more power through the stock motor?

    • @theshippingcontainergarage
      @theshippingcontainergarage  Рік тому

      Yes exactly.
      So far it's been fine. I just keep water jugs on hand to dump directly onto the motor to cool it off for long race/practices etc. I've never taken it beyond too hot to keep my hand on it.
      I reached out to another guy on forums/Instagram who did a similar build several years ago, he never burnt up his kids motor and I think he was pushing 50v. However they were up in Finland or something so maybe they had a colder climate. I dunno. The motor is pretty cheap if it does burn out anyways.
