There are in fact quite a few differences between this and the original DS not just the reel retainers, but mostly those differences are under the hood on the circuitboard. Also the shutoff lever on the original DS would shut off the entire machine not just the motor.
Got this machine a while ago, just fixing it up now. Replacing the pinch roller rubber and doing my best to restore the idler tires, going to try soaking them in Simple Green the way some auto repairmen do here in the States for rubber car parts. Are you familiar with that practice at all? Not sure if you guys have Simple Green across the pond...
enjoyed your video, I've just managed to get the same machine as you show in the video and I'm finding I'm getting echoing when recording from my iphone using the input at the rear and also using my bose mini sound speaker plugged into the output plugs so i can listen to the recording, do i need to clean something to stop the echoing?, the input selector also works intermittently are these easily cleaned please? cheers
I got one of this units, but when I compare the source vs the tape recording, the tape sound much brighter and thinner than the source, that has not any sense right? It would sound warmer and a bit darker I guess. Do you know which could be the problem?

Ive got one of these. But for some reason, it plays faster than it should. How do I repair this?
Change the adapter that unscrews on the face of the unit and place that on the pin next to it.

I used Platenclene (a printer pinch roller rubber restorer) to clean and get more grip

Check the tape bias.
