Thank you so much for the review - totally appreciate the critique and will keep it in mind for the edits when I do - frustration should not be a focus - totally agree! Images will also be resized! The instructions that come with the deck are the translations of the early deck so readers can see the early information - no kickstarter - was just a pre-release :) Thank you again for taking the time,- you made me laugh with 30. Court Official !
Sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost the password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@James Jeffery I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and im in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
As you mentioned, the other main problem with the book is that for those who want to use the traditional cards (that have the directions switched), not all of her examples are backwards unless you buy her deck. I do not connect with her deck, and do not plan to buy it. This creates additional work when trying to use the "backwards" book with the traditional cards. The funny thing is that now that the cards were made in mirror image (the traditional cards, that is) they are now the pervasive standard, and her book only has the 'correct' directionality for the very tiny group of people with an 1890's deck or Toni's deck.
I'm surprised that with such small cards that they weren't printed borderless, but I do like that inner color border that you mentioned. I'm really looking forward to reading the book, but not crazy about the modern deck, I love Ciro's.
That was super awesome! Especially your comments about tradition and the evolution of systems at the beginning. I kind of wish you did a series about that... It's fascinating...
Those "Short Illness " people in card 31 got so sick, they died and became zombies!!! Great and very thorough review as always lovely Kelly.. Thank you xxx
Okay, now I love them even more although that is not so much a short illness LOL I'm glad you enjoyed the review and thank you so much for watching! ::HUGS::
Great review on Toni Puhle's deck and guidebook. The deck I am not so much a fan of in terms of artistic style. But the book definitely looks amazing. There is something to be said about traditional formats of reading cards though. Following the style or format the cards are read can help show how distinctive its voice is compared to other cartomantic languages like Tarot, Sibilla, Lenormand, Playing Cards, etc. The rules help navigate your intuition to keep it simple rather than reading them like an elongated Tarot or free form oracle card reading.
I definitely agree, I am a huge proponent of tradition and soak up all of it I can get, I just like for the conversation to continue over time as it will naturally just as it was when reading with these systems began, they developed and shifted and it's amazing to think of that line leading to you and I today with those same cards in hand :D
I bought this book when it first came out, and because she did not use the traditional card images, I was very disappointed, to the point where I set the book aside. At some point, I will go back and redo all of the spreads with the original cards so that I can enjoy it more. Toni really knows her stuff when it comes to Kipper, and she billed this as a book on traditional Bavarian Kipper reading, and then the book came out with pictures of her "modern looking" cards, and because I was primed for a traditional Bavarian reading course, I expected traditional card images, thus I was extra disappointed. I expect the book is great, but the images just turned me off from reading through it.
I took some kipper curses with her (on line) and she is a great teacher. I bought her book (even when I felt it was expensive ..but is hard to find something about kipper cards in english ). I love the book, I think is very complete, but the deck...mmm.. I dont know... I love the old fashion cards and Im not a fan of the ¨new¨ artistic style
I definitely think art is very subjective but there is no question she has a trove of information in this book to share so I'm so glad it's a resource we now have!
Hi, I’m a tarot reader for so long , I started learning kipper recently and it’s so hard to find books and information. Really like your videos and your channel , always helpful . Regards from Portugal 🇵🇹
I don't hold Toni's frustration against her - Malkiel was certainly frustrated with english speaking readers too, and with good reason! All in all it's a great book - I'm curious about Toni's method vs. Malkiel's - start and stop cards vs. master cards, etc. Are these concepts from different regions in Germany? I'd love to find out!
Were you going to post a link to the other English kipper book you talked about in this video? I think you said you couldn't remember the name while you were recording, but would link it. The only one I'm familiar with is called The Art of Kipper Card Reading by Alexandre Musruck. Thanks for this video! I really enjoy your honest, thoughtful reviews. It helps so much when trying to decide if I want to buy a particular deck or book, especially when I don't always get the opportunity to see a deck or book in person before I buy.
Here you go, the one I was talking about was Nobody's Here's review of The Art of Kipper Card Reading, I went ahead and posted it, thank you for reminding me! ua-cam.com/video/4LkEZ4I5fqs/v-deo.html
Eep! No. 4 - on the Original, Cupid inspects his arrow but doesn't shoot at this point, whereas Toni's Cupid is shooting! My personal thoughts - not so fast, she's still trying to decide if she likes him! Lol.
There is another Kipper deck that utilizes the original facing directions. It's called the Salish - but I think it's kind of fugly. www.kipper-karten.de/einzelbedeutung_salish.php
Love love love your bit on allowing the system to change and grow as culture changes and time passes. So many systems from religion to cartomancy to literary traditions etc. are all VERY Cis normative, Hetero normative, Caucasian normative, and Upper Class normative. Not to mention that even languages have to evolve to have new ways of expressing concepts which simply didn't exist at the time. I keep thinking so many systems would benefit from an Internet card these days..ie..House+Internet (Your UA-cam Channel), or Gloomy thoughts+Internet (Getting depressed by reading too much news on FB), or Unexpected Money + Internet (successfully monetizing a website) are combinations that could all express something specific and meaningful in our lives, but the lack of an internet card (or not having that meaning built into a card) basically stops ANY of those ideas from easily coming up in a reading. And yet these are ideas that probably apply to many more people's lives on a regular basis than some cards which certainly used to be much more central to the lives of people at the time of the deck's creation.
I agree with you about a lot of this! I'm turned off by "the real way" -- BUT -- I do like learning from tradition. And by and large, I liked the book a lot -- tiny graphics aside. I made little symbols to write on my cards to help remember all the kinds of cards... and I like her deck, even though I'm with you on the modern stuff. It does SLIGHTLY remind me of the game Dream Phone my sis had back in the 90's - where there were dudes who would call you on this fake phone -- but it's not bad. I kind of adore the art in the original, though. I prefer it to the Sibilla deck (eek!) -- but the style of art is evocative.
I agree, I think it is a great book and am really glad that I purchased it, I'm thrilled to see things coming out in English on Kipper it's over due!! :)
I love the art in the original - so many have dissed its artistic value but I so love the MC1 in his green suit and the wallpaper throughout the deck sis brilliant
Well, I suppose those same clients wouldn't be thrilled to see a coffin regardless of what it's called :D :D I think most clients getting Lenormand or Kipper readings know there is a coffin and it's my job to try to steer them to the message vs the panic OH NO :D
Well, thats correct, although I don't think those type of cards have such a bad reaction these days, there is so much more information around then when I first started 20 years ago! But still fatality! lol
Hi Black Cat - the Original German Deck is Ein Todesfall - it literally translated means "A Death" or "A Fatality" in English - Kipper is a situational deck so the card names explain a situation rather than a thing - I thought of Coffin at the time but stuck to the literal translation
@@TheCardGeek Would "Ending" be an inappropriate word choice? I am not a fan of either a "Coffin" or "Fatality". Having said that, it is interesting to note that it is NOT a STOP card. In the Kelly's Master method, that card generally means a STOP to the story or a sentence. I also was thinking of changing the "Change" to "Transition" in my deck after reading your book. I would love to see more videos on Start, Stop, Connector and Cause & Effect cards. I also would like to add that the large font in your book is a treat to my aging eyes. I don't have to wear my reading glasses and that is much appreciated.
Roopa Dudley the card is the “act of dying” fatality / dying etc - it only ends one card - the other cards around it are affected differently - depends what you are looking for - as long as the lwb explains that then it’s totally up to the artist - every system has negative cards - they are needed :)
Hello! I do not speak much English . The address of the letters is different from the old ones, does that make them read differently? the man looks at him future .... 😅
Hello Kelly you made some great points in your review of the book and I appreciate it. I don't think I could use the modern deck. I got this gut feeling the spirit world wants the deck reversed. I don't why it's just how it seems to me. I love kipper it's one of the best decks when someone is dealing with alot drama with many people involved. I will have a tuff time buying this book because many times I disagree with the way she reads the cards. But I might give the book a chance after your review. Thabk you

@James Jeffery It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass !

Modernising tradition is absolutely crucial indeed.

I'm so glad you find them helpful, definitely check out Toni's channel as she has a lot of Kipper videos as well! :)
Amazing review Kelly! I agree with you on EVERYTHING you say ☺
WELL that doesn't surprise me as we are pretty par for the course when it comes to our love of divination, including Kipper :D ::HUGS::
I ordered the book, but not crazy about the modern cards. Thanks for the review.
You are very welcome! :D
This looks juicy. I'm going to watch this in a few hours. Thank you!!!

CIS is such an insult so.....degrading I HATE IT. Cannot believe anyone thinks it's AOK. 🤮
is this good for beginners?
