Hello, I advise you to put this idea in a drawer for five to ten years. Your children will be stronger. Take the Haute Route with other adults to see...

    Hi,
Conditions during your trip look very good!!!
I am planning to go on the haute route with my 2 sons (age 9 and 12).
Is it possible to speak with any of you and ask some questions about the route, a few gear items, etc? Basically I know most of the needed information, but would like to reconfirm some things with someone who recently went on this trip.
    Thank you in advance.

wetter you canot plan and this is big factor to the route and how hard it is,better some smaller upphils for kids, shorter routes, so i woud not take kids, there are some cervases on the way, if you get some fog on moutain then it coud be a problem. for sunny days it is all good, and you need to know glacier self rescue techniques.

      Thank you for you reply!
For sure, weather is a big factor and in the case of a fog or a blizzard I know that I can get stuck in the haute (best case scenario) or in the emergency tent (second best case scenario) and so on...
I understand different crevasse rescue techniques and we have all the gear ranging from Air Bag backpacks and climbing sets to satellite communication and basic compass with paper maps... gear list is too long to list.
As for the kids - they can handle long ski days in resort (8-12 hours) and ski well (black diamonds, ski switch/reverse, jumps, metal boxes, etc). I skied with them for the past 6 years spending 20-30 days on the mountain during all weather conditions. I am confident with my 12 year old son, but not quite sure if the 9 year old will be able to easily handle 6-7 hours of walking up hill, but I will test it in upcoming month.
***** I just thought if it would be possible to ask you some questions that I have (over the phone will probably be faster). For example:
      1) Do you have reliable source of LOCAL weather forecast (these are usually provided by local weather analysts, not the apps in the phone such as Windy.com, etc.)?
      2) Did you use any Swiss or French avalanche forecasts? If yes, which sources did you use?
      For example: avalanche.report/bulletin/latest?region=CH
      www.slf.ch/en/avalanche-bulletin-and-snow-situation.html#avalanchedanger
      3) Did you obtain information about location of known crevasses before your trip? If yes, who provides such information? For example: specific guide, or firm.
      4) Did you book each haute personally, or via some itinerary?
      5) How many other groups of people did you see per day? How crowded the route is?
      6) Did you plan the trip yourself or used guide?
Sorry for asking many questions... it's just your group went recently and I am trying to get information that is recent. If you can spare about 30min on the phone/skype/whatsapp, please let me know.
      Thank you again,
      Andre
