My belief is that that final chorus is gonna be more dramatic live, they have done a revamp for the past two. Especially with Spaceman, they went all out in the second half so I trust Ollie knows what he’s doing
Yes! Same that’s exactly what I thought
Like steps a deeper shsde of blue
I hope so cuz Olly can sing so well! Esp. His dancing!
Luckily he’s got really good stage presence/performance😭
It was Space, man. Not spaceman!
This was released today, wasn't it? It's not even noon! How did you do that?? The work ethic. The focus. the commitment. 👏👏👏
It was released at 8am 😅😅
@@Novympia 2 hours for a filmed edited reaction. We don't deserve it haha
Wasnt it released at midnight? I watched the video last night after coming home from watching Dune 😊
The song is fine, but will not do much unless the staging is super memorable
@@MM-tz2bsthe song released at midnight, the MV was 8am
@@Hydraas oh right, it was just his photo when i listened last night haha so dumb of me..
Your reaction was almost painful because you began with a bit of hope, and then you really looked like you were holding your breath waiting for something bangtastic to happen, but it never did, so I watched your hopes turn to worry and fizzle all out into numb disappointment and resignation XD
😅😅😅
It’s very Pet Shop Boys. It’s not bad. I was the same as Nova, just WAITING for something more 😅
i have the same feeling like I had with Mae Muller... "it can do well if staged right" ... and then its not staged right
the performance and staging are gonna be what sways how this does
Olympia took the words right out my mouth. The spoken interlude is so "I Breathe Again". The intro is a blatant hint to "It's A Sin" as well!
THAT'S what it reminded me of! It's A Sin, of course
It's pet shop boys inspired Olly said
He will need to be able to sing this Live REALLY WELL to make an impact in Eurovision
Agreed.
Which... sometimes he doesn't sing well live
You guys are the SWAT team of Eurovision with the reaction speed of the drop
This will be all about the live performance
Absolutely 👀
to me, it very much feels like It's A Sin by Pet Shop Boys, production-wise, and Rush by Troye Sivan, lyrically
which all in all, is giving a great dance track that will be staying with me for some time, even after the contest
don't really think it's competitive enough for high place, but absolutely nothing to be ashamed off! UK is finally showing that they can make music that sounds like it's from UK :D
Wait. I can see it now. Like last year was the year of laying down. This is the year of spinning mini stages. Calling it now
It is very Pet Shop Boys and Steps (what a combo). I like it!
It's bloody great. Not even joking. Listening constantly. He is not a joke act. What else did we expect from him?
With the first few seconds of the song I was waiting for the “Hi Barbie , Hi Ken” from Aqua 😅😅😅 anyone else get that ?
The bells are only in the right headphone so it was funny olympia genuinely not hearing them 😅😅😅
I really do expect some big Space Man kinda moment in a live version at the end of the song in May, it's two years running we've had a "Eurovision version" and it's surely happening again because Dizzy has a lot of space for changes. It's going to be big budget too and they've got someone staging it who did Olly's performance with Elton at the Brit Awards.
also I feel like if you look at the difference between No Rules (studio track) and No Rules (live performance) staging can absolutely elevate anything.
Every time I hear the song , FOR SOME REASON, I can’t unhear Deeper shade of blue by steps
I was really excited to listen to this, but then I listened to this.
Completely agree with everything you both said! Love the talking part too! But I do think we can be at least left side of the scoreboard
I know everyone keeps saying it’s very Pet Shop Boys but I honestly get Erasure a lot more from this. From the instrumentals at least.
It’s a fine song… but perhaps just not quite as spectacular as it needed to be for Eurovision.
I feel like this song could have been a years and years back catalogue of songs they didn’t think would be great on an album.
It sounds ok and that’s about as much as I can say
I agree so much about releasing the snippet! I was confused as to why they did it at the time, especially as it sounded like it would be the chorus. All that did was give us all chance to get a bit used to it, so that by the time the full song comes out we find ourselves wanting it to go somewhere else.
If this finishes on the left side, I think it'll be primarily because he's at least reasonably well-known across large parts of Europe, so people will disproportionately pay attention to his song on the night. That could serve him well, but I don't see the song standing out much. I don't even think it's a musically strong year either!
In short... it's ok. And I'm fine with that 🙂
i was expecting more from olly alexander. Right now its my 14th place. Best wisher from Bavaria
I kinda have a love hate with myself over audibly gasping and clapping when when I opened youtube and saw that you had uploaded a reaction video to the UK song. I did also see that Christmas recipe video and Olympia's real time reaction to the announcement of Olly Alexander, and then the first video of the year where toward the end you guessed where Olly would land in the ranking....so you've inadvertently left a bread crumb trail of anticipation over this video that I have completely fallen for.
Eurovision needs to pay you guys for the excitement you've built over this year's contest.
"Chorus feels more impactful after that verse dont you think?"
"... no..." 💀💀💀
I actually agreed with Nova there but that made me cackle.
I think this is a fantastic song, gonna be a great performance, i dont see it winning, could see top 10 though
I think if they highlight the spoken word portion, as well as the different vocals in the last few hooks, which they can easily do live, it'll be more effective i think. As its slighttttly repetitive in this studio version.
TOTALLY agree with Nova that the snippet being the main hook was such a mistake considering how prominent it is in the full song. They almost overplayed it before it even came out!
It needs a revamp to amp up the last part to a more intense crescendo
It needs a complete rewrite
My problem with this one was that it really did not got my full attention at no point. Usually when I watch/listen to an entry which is just released, I am fully into it with all my senses and during this one I was even checking my phone :') and I am dissapointed in a sense that I was expecting much more. But still, it's a great song, but as you guys said, it's about the positioning in the grand final and how others will perform it live. Best of luck to Olly.
Best of luck to Olly, idk if he helped with the writing of the song, cuz Years and Years has had such great bops and this is just... a little mid. I hope they better it in the live show
I've figured out what it reminds me of - deeper shade of blue by steps
Its an alright song. I do agree that it kinda is just the chorus. Also agree this being in 2024 Eurovision it might be devoured by the other entries.
You both need to get you own earphones. Most songs these days are made to pan between the left and right earphone to create depth etc
Omg I love Olly and I love pretty much every song Years & Years have made. They have such a signature fun sound. In so happy for him.
Look, he give everything I expected from him. Amazing quality and a huge nod to british pop (Elton John, Pet Shop Boys). For me this scream jury pleaser. UK really step it UP! Be happy!!!!
I absolutely love this! 😍 Very catchy, very 90’s. I just think that we as ESC-fans are expecting big vocal moments, craziness, memorable stage gimmicks, to feel confident that a song will be successful. I just hope the UK will not mess up the staging again 😅
I don't even watch Eurovision, but you girls are just so entertaining!
I cant WAIT for the live perfomance. You know full well this is the radio version. IMO this is going to do a Sam Ryder after soar after the first rehearsals.
I typing before seeing the vid. I'm soooooo EXCITED! I had the pleasure of seeing Years&Years in Boston. I"M so STOKED!!!!🙌🏻❤NOW back to the VIDEO! 😂
Dizzy is absolutely amazing! ❤️Remember how people first reacted to Sam Ryders first video and there were mixed reviews and look what happened when it came down to his live performance! Ollys video may be getting mixed reviews, but wait until he’s done his live performance! Olly CAN sing live and he has what it takes to turn people into the UK favour! Hopefully lots of promoting around Europe as well! 🌀❤️🇬🇧 LETS GOOOO! UK 🇬🇧 all the way! 🎉❤
I have a feeling that this studio version features less falsetto high show off moments that we will get on the night. I kind of mean a sort of under promise, over deliver type thing. There's also bound to be a few tweaks before the big night - I would lay money on it. As for the staging, I have no doubt that it will be visually breathtaking, totally different to anything the UK has ever done before, Olly will insist on that without a shadow of a doubt. As for the apparent surprise on the night, maybe Neil Tennant from The Pet Shop Boys doing the spoken word bit, that would be epic.
I like the song. I just was waiting for more, it feels unfinished in a sense. It doesn't really go to that high point-it kinda keeps dragging you on and at the end there's no real "ahh yeah the big note/part".
When comparing this to all the other big eurobops (Croatia, Netherlands, Austria etc) and powerful ballads like France this (for me) seems a bit forgettable.
I think for this to do well (not winning worth) but for it to be on the left side (maybe top 10) it needs really impactful staging and to be 'jazzed' up a bit similar to what they did to Sam Ryder in 2022.
If they don't any of that I can't really see this doing well sadly. Lovely video though!
guys……. i like it alot ❤❤❤❤❤ loveeeeee olly!
I love how you can gauge their reactions just from seeing the thumbnail.
I absolutely love Years and years and was so excited when he was announced but I have no idea why this would be the song chosen, it just doesnt have oomph enough in it to be a hit
I totally understand Nova's comment about the snippet, because I didn't listen to it before the song itself! And I really like it!
I love Olly! I think this single is great ❤
This also left me a bit cold on first listen but as the days gone on its really grown on me, really like the petshop boys vibe from it. Realistically though we're looking at 15th to 20th in the contest but it'll be a chart hit for sure.
He did put a clip up of some rehearsals where it looks like he's going for a big gospel harmony, so that could be something to pick the last minute or so up live.
ooo big gospel harmony sounds exciting
To be honest, apart from it usually topping the charts as the campest concert of the year, my favourite thing to come out of Eurovision is the 5-10 songs that i get to add to my playlist. I often hope we do well just because i feel like i should, but not once have a placed a bet on the UK to win. Ollie will need to destroy this vocally for it to land on the left side, ive seen him live and he is very good so 🤞 but at the end of the day, it will be a great time, great fun and i cannot wait to see what Sweden are going to do to commemorate their anniversary 😱 exciting 💙
Got to say I totally agree with you both about this. I was expecting a lot more from him and the guy who collaborated with him. He's going to rely heavily on thr performance and staging. It's missing some oomph and a big build up for the ending. Even if it changed tempo at the end.
Too many stronger songs.
Agreed! As long as the other guys get the date wrong and think it’s the week after then I think we’ve got this…..
i think the song’s good, it’s really catchy - personally, i was humming it after just one listen last night but the staging will absolutely make it or break it!
Was waiting for your reaction. 😅didn't disappoint! The song however? 😂
It’s 7:16am where I’m at. Watching while I get kids ready for school…… you are spoiling us. Thank you for all your hard work
Thanks lovelies for being so quick. We appreciate you. I really love the song and I love the music video. But I really just seem gonna wait for the live to really have an opinion. Cause I need to see how it's gonna translate. It is a very big heavy hitter year though so i'm pretty worried honestly
The bell sounds remind me of the bells at the ending of Harry Styles song - As It Was.
I’ve listened a few times now and I’m sooooo here for this!
I was waiting for more, for sure. But it is a catchy tune to replace the earworm in my head all week. Je Sui . . . in Bio, down in St. Tropez . . .😄🩷🖤
Oh Christ here we go… my initial response was the same as Olympia’s upon hearing who it was and also blind reacting with you girls
Edit: I feel the thrush (disease)
Well let's just say - we aren't going to Liverpool (or UK in general) next year... It's cute, though.
I’m hoping that both Olly’s performance and the staging will be really big and all out, fingers crossed because I love Olly Alexander and want him to do well 🤞
I am all dizzyyy this year, dizzy for Olly
I 100% agree with yer fella on the left - my thoughts exactly xxx
Oh my. 😝
Don’t think I’ve ever seen Olympia so stressed 😂
This is one of my favorite UK entries in the last 20 years! I love the 90s vibe with a sophisticated TODAY production. The spoken part is amazing!. Going directly to my 2nd place after Croatia 🇭🇷 . I don’t care how it does in Eurovision, it’s a high quality male bop…and it makes me feel every time I listen to it. 10 points from Spain 🇪🇸 go to UK ♥️.
I love it xxxx
‘We should’ve sent Pete Burns’ 😂
I do feel this could be the Winner! His voice is Clear and the Song really gets hold of you.
I think its going to be cracking live but ultimately land around the top right side of the board.
“I like this set” says it all.
Agree with a lot of what you’ve said. I’ve put it 8th between Austria and Lithuania. I love the bells
I felt pretty meh after hearing the snippet, I just had a strong feeling it would be the best bit of the whole song. Turns out, I was right. I felt much more excited when I heard last year's song. Also, love that you noticed the Adam Rickett inspiration. Tbh this fees like a wasted oppurtunity to have such a big star as Ollie with such a flatlining dong. I meant 'song' not 'dong', but it was too funny to change 😂😂😂
You two make me laugh and your bang on with this song. It's May Mulla all over again... it ain't gonna 'Shine'.
I SPRINTED
First time hearing our UK entry because I wanted to watch it with (you) the girls and glad I waited! Personally, I didn't care for the song. It seems like they've spunked the budget on the video and kept their fingers crossed that it carries the song.... the live version will need all the backing dancers and staging available to at least match the video. Bill Tongue!
He’s having 4 backing dancers
When I heard the snippet I was a bit disappointed that that was the whole chorus, and then when I first heard the single on Spotify I was a bit underwhelmed that most of the song was just that chorus. BUT since I saw the video it's grown on me so much! The production value is fantastic and all the small details (e.g. the bells and synths, the 90s feel etc.) are what give it an edge. It's a real banger, and if it's a good performance (which we know Olly can do), I can see it in the top 10. I didn't really like Sam Ryder's studio version but his live performance was epic IMO! I think (/hope) this will be similar...
I personally love this song ❤ not sure if it’s a winner but I’m really hoping it will do well. Loving the 80/90s club vibe 🎉 Just hoping staging will not let it down
I really do get the impression that they started writing the chorus, and then just forgot about writing the rest lol.
Verse - Chorus - Bridge - Chorus - Bridge (SW) - Chorus
It currently sounds like different samples put together rather than a finished song, because the transitions are quite harsh in and out of the choruses. I don't think even good staging alone is going to be enough to pull some points, not with the quality of some of the recent entries coming in now.
Hopefully they continue revamping it.
I like it, theres no reason why it cnt be remixed.
That "that would never come" olympia moment is so good haha
I think it's a smart song for Eurovision, since the chorus is the selling point and it's repeated so many times. However, not so smart move to release that snippet so early and build up the hype around that so people are expecting more when there isn't much more to the song than the chorus. 😕 I really like the song and Olly Alexander anyways and will be rooting for the UK in May! 🥳
The bells. The bells feel a little Steps?
No need to worry, this is the winner 🏆
The fuckin cutaways 😂😂
Amazing video drop so soon after the premiere! You literally took the words out of my mouth- I love the track, I’ll play it lots but I can’t see it standing out against some of the entries this year unless they pull something extraordinary out of the hat. Bloody love Olly, this track is a bop, just a shame he’s up against some real hard hitters this year.
7:52 MOTHER IS BEING DRAGGEDDDD
love you two tho xoxo
Here's a thing...during polish preselections Midnight Dreamer by Marcin Maciejczak finished in 3rd place...if it was Olly's song UK could sleep peacefully but with Dizzy I'm not sure
I feel that I like the vibe but it just doesn't build enough
Ollie is being really clever here. He’s ticking all the boxes. Yes the song isn’t the best, vocally he probably won’t be the best but……its not vocally challenging, so can easily deliver on stage while also being able to move around ✅
It’s instantly catchy with a lot of help from backing vocals to add depth ✅ , and lastly a stage rotation is definitely on the cards🤞🏼, will be very impactful and impressive ✅
Ollie is also a seasoned performer so I’m sure he’ll nail it. He’s ticking all the boxes. Maybe not a winner ,but him and his team are definitely making sure of a top 10 finish 👍🏼. I agree with you though, the tease didn’t work.
Mae muller was doa guys! 😂
I mean, Je Suis Une Dolly would’ve been a fine choice for UK’s entry this year 🤣💅🏼🫢
I think left side and top 10. That break will bring something magical.
Sorry for the comment you found rude 😭 I apologised on Twitter 💗! Love you both & so happy my little jest was wrong!!
When the ad that plays at 6:35 is the same song😅
I love it..very catchy retro vibe with it,
It’s really good. I like it from Armenia 🇦🇲 12 points
I can tell Olympia edited this. I just have a massive hunch she did.
Dizzy is a bit …yeah. It’s catchy, good for the party, but I don’t see this stacking up against some of the other power house songs of this year. I’m curious to see what this looks like in a live setting.
i was so excited for this. unfortunately it's just a little better than meh
Lol Adam Rickitt! He starred on Shortland Street in New Zealand for a few years
Coming back to this after having seen it at Semifinal 1: the staging is doing a lot of heavy lifting and it does make a slightly better case for it in the final!
We agree - the staging certainly elevates the song!
Next year let's send the Dolly rockers ! Ju Suis en Dolly LOL
🎶 It reminds of the French song "C'est une histoire d'amour" or its Japanese counterpart "Mr Summertime" 🎶
