Ohhhh your next marathon coming up again soon!!!! Where is it? Or maybe that's a bit of a secret! I'm doing a huge trail marathon in 10 days, with 1200m elevation😬😵💫🥴😬 I know for many that's not "huge" but for me it sure is and I'm definitely feeling nervous!!!
It is a special one the next one...am in the middle of making the usual run of run up videos. Happy if my partner in crime reveals it in the comments...! Best of luck in the trail marathon...let me know how you get on!
Really interesting post, Thanks. I have really been enjoying the NB rebellion V4 and the NB 1080v13. So I will be really interested in how you get on in the marathon in 5 weeks’ time.
I ran a marathon this past weekend in the AF V3, and again...didn't ONCE think about my feet/shoes. They just work, and definitely allowed me to negative split the marathon, where normally I just hang on during the last 10k, this time I dropped my pace by over 10sec per KM in the last 10k and really felt I had nothing left at the finish. Really saw some interesting data comparing power application to hard packed gravel trail vs paved trail for the exact same power. 333W (4% AP) 4:33/km on trail, and 333W (2% AP) 4:27/km on paved trail. The AP power numbers I don't feel where applicable, I was tucked in HARD during the sections at 4% AP, but in the 2% AP I was just running solo and passing people. Think I'm done racing on courses with mixed surfaces.
I haven't done many races on mixed surfaces. Think the Jack & Jill Marathon was the last one, which I enjoyed, but wouldn't fancy setting a PB on one...Well done on the negative split!
Great review, how do you think the drop 4 vs 8 mm effect the run? Do they feel like the drop is true? For example in the Alphafly V1 I feel negative drop and added a heel insert.. Alphafly V2 the drop is perfect for me.
I feel the same about the AF1 and AF2. Funnily enough the drop in the New Balance does not make me feel like I am sagging back...will see what happens in the marathon...
How do plated shoes compare with a typical non plated shoe in terms of feel? I'm still recovering from plantar problems, but what I've found is that a firm supportive shoe aids recovery, but such a shoe provides no shock absurbing properties. Would a shoe with a high positioned plate combined with a good foam under provide the best of both worlds? I have a pair of Brooks Glycerin 2. Nice shoes, but the squishyness hurts my foot. Nike peg 40 better, but still a little spongy under the heel.
Hello Toby. I have not experienced plantar but I have run in a lot of carbon and non carbon plate shoes. I like the feel of running in carbon plate shoes. They add a little structure to the non carbon plate shoes that I enjoy such as the Nike Invincible and the Asics Gel Nimbus series. You should definitely try them. The Asics Edge Paris and Sky Paris are identical to each other except for the plate position. In the Sky Paris it is closer to your foot and in the Edge Paris it is closer to the ground. I am not sure which would be better for your condition but there is an option there. I like both shoes and appreciate their lightness. If you are looking for comfort this NB FCSCv4 is hard to beat. Nike, Adidas, Brooks and Asics all have online free memberships that you can join. If you do you can buy a shoe online you can run in it extensively, up to 90 days for some, and if you are not satisfied return them. Essentially you get to try them risk free and without the pressure and short runs you can get from an instore experience. If I was you I would definitely try a pair. If you do it would be great to hear how you get on with them.
@OldManRunner Thank you for the detailed response. My foot is on the mend now after 6 months frustration. I might try a plated shoe as you suggest. My feet don't do well in any shoe that has a squishy feel under the foot. I suspect a plate closer to the foot would work better for me. I've also boosted my protein intake. Anecdotally, it seems to have had a positive affect.

so which one is better in soil ground? For 1600 meter?

Wonderful. Just wondering if supercomp would be nice for my first half marathon or pacer 2. Unless asics Paris is available
It is. nice shoe for a half marathon, but would go with the Asics Paris if you can get one, seem to be only limited sizes available her at the moment.
Yes, my event is in august, so hoping to catch Asics.
Should be plenty out by August. Best wishes for the race!
