I purchased a SM kit years ago. The tuner holes were not aligned or spaced correctly. Plugged and redrilled to make the neck useable. Turned out rather nice. I’d do it again.

I would ditch the plastic binding and come up with a wood or combo of wood /abalone... very nice kit worthy of something better than PVC binding, in my opinion... maybe some maple/abalone/ebony ?
Or something original.
