Hi Finnegan - I have one of these couple of tips - if you're going to be messing around on the concrete - over inflate the two centre rows of tyres and it will turn much much better. Also - if you flip the wheels in the second to back row of wheel so that the tread pattern is reversed - it will steer in the watter much better in reverse. Also (you probably noticed this by now) there are two bungs under the rear floor to stop it from flooding and sinking. If you get water on the drive belt - you will get stuck till it dries out. hope this helps - cheers .
I always wanted an Argo as a kid, and now at almost 40 years old, I want one even more. So cool, and super convenient to just be able to drive it anywhere. It's in really nice shape too.
What Finnegan said: “I’m gonna take out this 2X4 because that’s not classy.” What Finnegan meant: “I’m gonna take out this 2X4 because it’s worth more than either of these vehicles.” 😂😂😂
I believe you can attach a Electric Trolling motor to the back of the Argo for even better performance on the water. You'll just need to add another battery to power the trolling motor itself!

I worked at Argo right out of highschool in the early 80's. You'll have fun messing around with it. I've restored (3) of them. The old 440 2-stroke one was crazy! You won't tip it. I used to stand on the edge and rock it back and forth... no tipping. I have (2) 16-wheel machines that were built up the road from Argo back in the day. My orange one has the 24-wheel option!! Fun hobby. You have pretty aggressive tires.. likely why it's hard to steer.
A friend and I got an Argo 8x8 a few months ago after he bought a house on a lake. Drove 4 + hours round trip, got it home, unloaded it off the trailer and immediately drove it into the lake. A bit un-nerving at first as it is tippy side to side but crazy fun. We did put a trolling motor on the back and it works great. Can't wait to see the kids reaction when you drive it down to the lake and don't stop and just drive right into the lake without telling them it floats.
The last time I seen an argo used featured in anything was the banana splits tv show and I am going back a good few years im 53 now. Yours does not look as high millage as me so I'm guessing it's quite a bit younger, ivs just checked and their buggies had only six wheels and no cage. And that was some leap of faith driving that monster into the water. What about fitting a jet ski engine into that thing. You could drop a couple of hinges onto the frame with some floats so you could unclip it from the top and let both sides drop down and use them as outriggers to help with stability. Fantastic show guys absolutely loved it thank you so much
Yup have one of those, it was ex film company, used for a kids programme I think as a sea monster?? still had a couple of fabric scales under the seat, hopeless on hard ground and the disc brakes were semi seized, so same problem. That was pretty brave to go right across the lake first outing and no life jackets ??...we have electric winches front and back ! dead handy sometimes.
Love my Argo 6x6 they’re awesome machines, have tracks for my mine so like mailman rain, snow, or shine I’m able to use it. Some atv’s your limited to the season like a skidoo, Argo no limits
My Dad had a Argo dealership in the 1970's, us boys would load the demonstrator on the back of his pickup and take to the lake. It was the high powered 6 wheeled one and could do around 50 mph top speed. We had a blast except in mud it would sink and sit on the bottom, wheels just spinning. Got kicked out after tearing around the campgrounds too fast. Good memories with it.
This reminds me of my best friend growing up, his father had a Coot. 4 wheel amphibious craft with a prop on the rear. We all headed for the river, circa 1970,he bailed off into the river, forgot to install the plug... It sunk had it pulled out of said river, drained it and sold it soon after... Oh yeah, the kicker is his dad was a shrimper, had his own boat and shrimped from Texas to Florida...
The most amazing thing is, Finnegan found a vehicle out of pa and gave it even the slightest thought that it may be "clean". That's not how it works anywhere north of Maryland.
My Burban that I bought in Cali back in 97 was a tank ran perfect no major issues for the 7 and a half years I owned besides the regular maintenance break pads, changes oil, and other fluids. The most expensive purchase I ever had to make since I bought it was new tires. I drove that sucker to Arizona and then drove 6 hours to Vegas every weekend and back. Only issue was it didn't have cruise control but I found a 8lbs smooth flat stone the was perfect to sound in front of the petal and kept it at a steady 90mph on the road to Vegas and also worked as an anti theft when I shoved it behind the breaks, the two times someone tried to steal it they weren't able to get it into drive apparently very easy to Jimmy the door on those suckers! Still ran perfect when I sold it to some farmers in 06 before I left to come back home.
I live only 40min from the Argo plant here in Ontario Canada and they are great machines once you get the hang of them. They however are not designed for pavement running. Enjoy
That's gonna be a hilarious video if Finnegan gets the kids in it and starts driving towards the water and then acts like he can't stop. Kids are gonna freak out until they realize they aren't sinking hahahaha.
Used one like that for work. If you stand in the back and reach for the controls it does a little better. It has too much weight in the front and that makes it hard to maneuver. Having a small outboard engine on the back will help also
I was a mechanic for s oyster farm. They had a Argo to get out on the mud flats. We put the plastic factory tracks on it. Went really well but man the salt water destroyed the drive trains. It's all chain drive connecting each wheel to the next. Don't take near salt water!! And keep the chains lubed.
The engine in it will last forever! I have the same one in my older Gravely garden tractor. Keep it in low range when launching skis/boats. It will pull 3500 in low range no prob.
Finn, make the PWC trailer just boyant enough to float itself, just below the water. Then you can drive straight down the ramp with people on the skis. Fire them up, take off, then drive the 6X6 back to shore. What could go wrong? :D
My buddy had one of those. After walking out of the marsh a couple hundred times from it breaking down out there, he eventually just left it out there. He got a call from the state game wardens a year or so later and they said they recovered his property, as if it were stolen. Once informing them that it hadn't been stolen, they wrote him a ticket for illegal dumping. 😆
love the videos. I own an argo aswell. A 1999 bigfoot. Just wanted to let you know your running it in high gear when you shouldn't be. High gear is for when your on hard smooth ground. Low is for when your in soft ,muddy or rough terrain. The older argo's have the classic transmission. The more weight you have in it the harder to turn in high.
Good morning from southwest Florida. I a friend down here that has the same machine Argo that he put (added) a 650 jet ski engine and pump in the back of it.
We had a couple of those in the past. The brakes are needing some work on that one. It should spin around in a circle like it is nothing. Other than the brakes, keep an eye out for a tire that isn’t pulling its weight, it would probably mean a roll pin sheared at the axle. Easy fix. Also, it looked like you were in low speed the whole time. When you came out of the water the first time, it sure looked like you never put the boat plugs in the drain holes.
I had the plastic tracks on my 6x6 and the road was the funnest place besides water, because the plastic tracks on pavement would do crazy fast donuts. Any hard land with mine killed my back after a period of time, but fun none the less.
I owned argo and maxx both 6x6 the argo was more fun in my opinion between the two. I also had a set of plastic tracks for the argo and when I was on a hard surface like the road that thing would do crazy fast donuts. I'd load the kids up hot the street and whip us all around. Tracks on it also made it virtually unstoppable, alot of wetlands around me and I've gotten the maxx stuck from high centering it. Mount a small outboard or trolling motor to take care of that, and make sure you got a working bilge pump. Have fun with it!!!

There was a mod (manufacturers parts) that gave you a small rear prop. It was never really designed for large water like that, but they made a prop that goes on for people that like to push the envelope. No idea if they sold many, or if any are kicking around. Tyres are on the wrong way around!
22:00 I did the same thing to my kids, fricking hilarious!!! They're most fun in water, on hard land your back will thank you if you park it. Lol but get really are fun, years ago I had these, scat hovercrafts and a rotorway scorpion helicopter, people thought I was crazy, but Finnegan is proving all of them wrong, I'm normal they're crazy lol

1. This thing BETTER be getting some performance upgrades! Let's see some fab work for the brakes, maybe some improved cooling, obviously horsepower... 2. There was a mod (manufacturers parts) that gave you a small rear prop. It was never really designed for large water like that, but they made a prop that goes on for people that like to push the envelope. No idea if they sold many, or if any are kicking around. Tyres are on the wrong way around!
Another “best day at work ever” moment. Too cool
Red Beard is a great guy/UA-camr!
Finnegan man I’ve definitely wanted to put a Holley fuel injection set up on my 1969 Chevy that I just built a 421 sbc for!! It previously has a Holley 750 Duble pumper on it!! Finnegan I think you would definitely love my truck for sure especially after you building the two wheel drive one!!
1. This thing BETTER be getting some performance upgrades! Let's see some fab work for the brakes, maybe some improved cooling, obviously horsepower...
2. You asked a guy from Pennsylvania about the condition of a vehicle without accounting for the "rust belt factor", you know better than that! Hell, that thing IS clean by rust belt standards!
I just watched a guy that builds and drives the fastest boats on the planet giggle with delight about driving a tractor in the water. The internet is amazing.
Good news is if you brake hard enough that 2x4 will knock you out, thus saving you the humiliation of listening to it die again lol
