this is so funny as an american because it all looks normal to me at first and then i slowly realize how WEIRD the houses here are, especially the more expensive ones
Given it's the South, I'm willing to place bets it's to still watch college football while you're prepping food for the party you're hosting where everyone is watching the Tennessee Volunteers or whoever the owner's preferred team is play whoever else. Either that, or just things like "I want background noise/my show on while I cook food"

I love the American housing market. I love looking at all the wonderful homes that I will never be able to afford in my life. I will never live in any of these. America, babeeeeeeeeeeee!
As an American studying architecture, this video was a great watch. I so often find myself asking why we do things a certain way and feel validated seeing someone observe our houses with such confusion.
I think of that one weather man when I think of Arizona weather, even though he was talking about.... Texas, I think. "Everyone in McKinney is DeAd. The heat index is, what is that? 101,105!" Also Jeff Dunham. " "But it's a dry heat." A bonfire's a dry heat."
The giant UK plug socket in the ceiling is for all your giant UK plugs to plug in, silly! Also this makes me feel a WHOLE lot better about my Sims builds. TV at a sensible height, and no death pit of Doom in the bathroom? Cakejumper approved!
I prefer the gaps in the stairs, I like my heels to be on the middle of the step. The tiles being the same is probably because the owner/flipper got a deal on a large bundle of them. Also watching this as someone with a history in carpentry/construction, I would not want to live in any of these houses, nor would I want to build them
Truly, yeah there are some wild houses out there. It doesn't even help knowing that the prices vary so much partly because the cost of living is also super variable depending on the state and area
Former Arizona resident here, the reason the one house had tile everywhere is because it does indeed get hot as Satan's balls down there and tile keeps cool better than carpet or wood
Looking at some of those expensive houses was making me think that if I was rich I’d probably just get a regular house and install a ton of security systems. Those giant houses honestly are way too spacious sound like they’d be a pain to maintain.
the little pillow sack you can see at 8:49 in the room with the jesus bed (as revealed later on), I had that pattern on my pillowcases and bedsheets for like 8 years!
0:43 you can tell it’s in a rich neighborhood cause the green lawn. from what i’m learned of AZ you can good houses for less but your front yard will be rocks and cactus
i just bought a flat myself (in central europe) and seeing how far the money i am in the hole for would stretch in the us is kinda depressing... (it would barely cover the murder toilet)
My dad has his couch/chairs set up perpendicular, and I've seen some interior designers describe the perpendicular couch style as "making conversation the center of the room instead of the tv" - I don't think my dad's put that much thought into it though, and it does make playing console games annoying XD
I don't quite get the outrage about the high tvs. I have a TV over my fireplace. The couches are far enough back that it's only a slight head tilt. If the couches are too close, then it hurts, but far enough away, and it's fine. 🤷🏻♀️ No excuses for the perpendicular couches to the tv, though.
If you're far back enough it's not too too bad, but perpendicular?? Yeah there's no excuse, even us low TV and high TV people can unite against a common enemy
No way in hell someone's paying $4mil to live in Arizona, which reached some of the hottest temps on Earth this past year and will only get worse EDIT: $200k for a decent house in Oregon? I'm listening.
Arizona is a very popular retirement destination, especially for upper-middle class Midwesterners. People with no circulation love the heat, same with Miami
@umphreak9999 I guess, but elderly folk are also way more susceptible to heat stroke, and the heat is so bad in Arizona that they can get brownouts and blackouts. Not like Texas (I'm Texan, our power grid SUCKS), but still enough that it seems unwise. And again, it's only going to get worse.
1:03 as someone who has a house very near that one, it’s probably on the high end a bit, the exact house should be going for 2 million maybe. Which is still really bad don’t get me wrong but not 4 million type of bad
maybe all these americans with their perpendicular sofa/tv arrangements just want to live out their dreams as *professional wrestler backstage watching a match involving a wrestler they're feuding with*
I remember when I used to dream of owning a house. What a time. At least there's still weird overpriced ones to make fun of. Cake pointing out how these are truly crimes against home design
it's CRAZY. In Ireland we have Celtic Tiger houses which are poorly planned, big houses that were built during the economic boom of the 90's-00's, but almost ALL the houses I've seen from the US look like that! It's wild.
Look at Canadian houses specifically from my home city of Vancouver I can confidently say we would put this to shame without even watching the video We have one of the most expensive housing markets in the world plus the other day I drive past a house where the whole front was a giant window with a balcony on the inside Ps I lived in a “2 bedroom” condemned basement that was gonna be knocked down is like 3 months and had a silverfish infestation and it was still over 1500 a month ✨🥰✨
Call me weird but I see nothing wrong with the house that has three couches positioned like a square around the TV. Now I'm curious if Cake will review homes in Ireland 🤔

I mean don't get me wrong, Irish houses can be very weird, but they're generally smaller so I guess there's less space for tomfoolery
I love how at 9:53, the tile house goes in one picture from "ok, eccentric, needs some work, but not bad" to "silent Hill concept art"
I want to know what's in the PIT
These really are some of the houses of all time, they look like set houses to film in
so many of them genuinely look like film sets! it's insane
Eyepatchwolf: Multiple hours about how empty rooms give him existential horror.
Cakejumper: TV is too high!
Conclusion: the Irish should be interior decorators

I like that with everything wrong in the Mortuary Kitchen, we never noticed there's a TV above the fridge.
Why do you need a TV above the fridge.
it is SICK AND TWISTED

Above the fridge is so high up that I thought for sure Cake would mention it
Housing crisis except the houses ARE the crisis. Dear lord.
we thought people weren't buying because prices and interest rates were too high, turns out the houses are all just awful
As someone who's worked in the A/V industry... WE TELL PEOPLE ALL THE TIME ABOUT HOW HIGH THEIR TV IS. They don't care.
