Welcome to being an artist, lol…I often paint a gray background before I start painting on canvas, and it adds a lot of depth to the painting. I understand old masters usually painted undercoats of gray or reddish brown. It takes flat and one-dimensional to rich and vibrant. 😊
Thanks for this video. I have a cement birdbath about this same color and this is exactly what I was looking for- how to get the color back into it! So off to Home Depot tomorrow!
That’s awesome!!! It’s so nice to have a new looking fountain. The water really takes off the color over the years. Not hard to dye the color again. Just make sure to use the dye on concrete instead paint. My fountain guy “expert” used paint on my other fountain and caused a huge problem. Now it is all peeling off. Concrete Dye doesn’t peel.
Beautiful fountain! I have a similar one like yours that is stained brown. I’m wanting a terracotta stain now. Thanks for sharing. How does it look 3 years later? We have hard water in TX so I usually touch mine up every spring. Ready for a change in color.
How do I connect so that the water comes out of the lion's mouth again? My pump has two plastic tubes, one goes to the pump and the other is thin. I knew it was connected to the small one but I don't know how to do it, the one that goes to the pump is thick and the other is thin. I don't know how to connect it so that the water comes out again. Could you help me? please
I just drove 2 hours for a beautiful fountain great price but I have to do what you did do they sell a terra cotta color at home depot? Worker at Lowe’s was no help
Hi, I have my fountain torn apart and I have put on the concrete dye but I’m needing to know if you applied the sealer or not. You didn’t mention a sealer so I’m guessing you didn’t apply it.
Hi Kevin. I just got it about a month ago. There was a Behr concrete dye brochure in the aisle. You have to choose a color and then Home Depot will mix it for you. They should have the dye in stock. I had to kinda prod the guys at my HD. They weren’t too familiar and didn’t really want to go out of their way to do it. But I showed them the brochure and they called another Home Depot paint dept and weee able to mix it for me.
I’m needing to know this also. Home Depot said I needed the sealer to put on after I dye my fountain. If I don’t need to do this step that would be great!!

Thank you for sharing this. I have a fountain that is peeling and I am trying to restore it your video was very helpful.
Very enjoy watching your video. Keep up the good work
Thanks for the encouragement Ken! I really appreciate it!!
Did you apply any sealant after? Do you think its necessary?

Found part 2 and really feel inspired to do the same to.my fountain, but with different colors.

Larry Life Dad wondering if you need to use the sealer with this dye? Home Depot said yes but if I don’t need to then I won’t.
Very helpful, thanks!

Do you put water in it? You don’t need to seal it before you add water?
like the gold
Thanks Alex!

I think it would’ve been easier to use a regular square sponge to finish it up w the gold color but overall it definitely looks better.
Thanks for watching Elena. Sponge will work great as well. Probably not a bad idea to use both a brush and a sponge. Good luck with your project!
It looks better with the gold. Where is part 3?
So do you apply sealer after?
What concrete sealer did you use?

How does it look now, a year and a half later?

Question, I can't find this dye at Home Depot at all. How long ago did you get this paint??

Did your concrete fountain need a sealer before or after you stained it?
