Great vid, for clarification if one is replacing a caliper (determine to be bad) would it be best practice to do it at minimum in a pair (front, both fronts) or all 4 calipers?
Wow can’t help but feeling a local shop here is trying to get over on me. Brought (towed) my car in for break caliper repair and Starter. All brake hoses, rotors, and brake pads were replaced previously to bringing to shop (car was not driven after these repairs). Basically all I needed was calipers for front and rear and starter. Starter cost: $921, Estimate for break calipers all 4: $2300.00. I will be towing car back to my house and doing break calipers myself. I just feel 2300 is an inflated price. Car: 2000 E39 540i 151,XXX miles
@@wiredawg2005 I done these myself before bringing it in. Wanted the calipers done before I got back home so I had the car towed I’m for the calipers only. They wanted 2300 for calipers only this was the cost with the the supplies parts. So basically 2300 in labor cost
Because he let the caliper piston extend fully, to relieve as much pressure as possible. There was still some leakage but doing it this way minimizes the leakage. You can also clamp the brake line to stop brake fluid from escaping

It is recommended to replace the calipers in pairs, but you can also replace just one.

Bmw says don’t grease the caliper side pins. I never do . Is there a chance the grease would eat the rubber boot ?
You can find this information in the technical documentation for vehicle repair.
Why there was no leakage when you unscewed the main brake line?
